Well, to be honest, it'd help if we knew what you wanted for a laptop machine. Very difficult to recommend you anything as we all have different needs/ideas of what a good laptop should have.

I don't know about the other models, but I do have an M1210 myself and it's a solid performer, especially with the configuration you have there. Do note though, because of the glossiness of the screen, it can be harder to view in the daylight/when there are strong sources of light in the background.

Otherwise, though the laptop is small, it can be a bit thick and it definitely isn't the lightest thing around (especially with the options you have there).

If possible, check out Dell's website, and look into the M1330 if you're interested in the M1210. It's essentially the successor to the M1210, and it's sleek, man. Better LCD screen, a lot more modern looking and it's a very thin laptop. Definitely worth a look at.

Thanks for the advice...it is appreciated.

I would love an m1330, but can't justify the premium in cost and it is likely out of my budget range (the prices quoted in original post include taxes etc.)

I currently own a Dell 710m and have been pretty pleased....starting to crack, speakers crapped out a while back (wire in hinge, pain in the a## to fix). Prefer portability, but not sure on the trade off for power yet...that is part of the problem....basically looking for the best deal I can dig up to put through an interest free plan at work.

Thanks Again...Take Care

Does not come close to Thinkpad build quality, and even the XPS M1210 is miles ahead. Lenovo's basic stuff is crap - they're riding on the Thinkpad name to sell units.

Blanket statements like this do not help... at all. Good job justifying your own purchase.

I priced out an XPS M1330 not too long ago at sub 1700 after tax..

Did you use any coupons/discount on the Dell site?

#1 Rule when buying anything from Dell. Don't ever pay full price because you can easily get atleast 10-20% off by just buying during a sale, using a coupon or haggling on the phone.

No it isn't, you didn't explain yourself at all. Dells definitely aren't the best, as your blanket statement concludes.

Faulty logic.

Acer also has high sales volumes. They're nowhere near good for a lot of the products they offer.

ipods suck too :D

seriously though i would easily say that dell is by far the best "value" notebook offering. complete care warranty is unparalled and amazing, worth the $300 or whatever.

personally I have an XPS and love it. even their desktops offer pretty good value

their monitors are > *

At least you give a reason now. "Dell is best" is not enough really.

Portability?

just got a T60 (15" model) recently...and to be honest, it's not too portable...seems heavier/bulkier than the T40 that i had previously

First off its not available to consumers any longer...a start of things to come...

This thread will help you:

It relates to the squealing in several m1210's. It practically chronicles my entire history with the system before Dells complimentary upgrade which Im waiting for.

That's true. But don't forget that there's at least a $250 to $300 price difference between a TP and 3000.
