Hey guys, I'm getting a mid range hybrid bike, been to a couple stores, looking at something similar to the Rocky Mountain Whistler 30, Trek 7300 or 7.3FX - something in the $650-700 range. The service that these bike stores can offer me is good (2 years service warranty), but I'm wondering what kinds of deals these guys can typically give if I'm getting a pair of cleats, pedals and a jersey or two.
I feel like asking for discounts but I'd like to see what a realistic sort of range is...

You'll have a hard time getting a deal at this time of year. Even a few months ago I found it very difficult to get anybody to budge on price - which is why I bought my bike on ebay instead. I paid $400 for a bike that the LBS wanted $589+tax for (Jamis Coda)...
The Trek 7.3FX is a nice bike. Also check out the Norco VFR-4, Jamis Coda, Kona Dew, and Specialized Sirrus. The dew isn't really mid-range, but I think it's a pretty nice bike for the money ($425) with a unique feel compared to the others.

Like computers, most of their profit margins are slim. As mentioned, unless you're willing to wait some time for a clearance, you will seldom find price drops on demand.

mmm in that case I think I'll just ask for longer service warranty and some deals on the cleats / pedals.

if you can wait until october, theres the annual bike sale down at exhibition place. all toronto dealers are there to sell off their 07 stock for dirt cheap.
