I just got my G2 in Jan. now last saturday I was driving along Hwy 7 up near Sharbot Lake and got a $271 speeding ticket, I was following another car so I didn't think the radar could catch me but it did, I was doing 116 Kms in a 80 Km zone do you think I can get it reduced if I go see a JP?

I don't know man, there's a lot of things working against you.
The fact that you're a rookie driver, the JP might say that since you haven't been driving long and you're already getting a ticket, you deserve the pay the full fine. How fast you were going also works against you. That's pretty fast.
It can't hurt to go down there and plead guilty with an explanation, but you might not get the results you are looking for.
You should slow down.

Slow the F down man...
Another 14 km and you could have had a dangerous driving charge laid on you.

slow down and think twice before you speed again.
you can definitely have it reduced since it's your first offense. Let the jp know that you've learned your lesson the hard way and will abide by the rules from now on. They should reduce it for you but again, because you just got your license, the jp might give you a hard time. If you want no record of speeding, you could maybe talk to those traffic ticket fighters and see what they have to say. if they offer to help you get it reduced, just hang up on them. you can do the very same thing on your own.

That's an expensive lesson. Just pay it, and chock it up to experience.

Do not listen to these people who are saying "Pay it". Take it to court and plead guilty...you will get it reduced in one way or another.

In essence he's paying it. But I agree, just admit to your fault instead of trying to not take responsibility of what you've done. If you plead guilty and show that you're really sorry for what you've done, they'll probably reduce the fine.

You shouldn't be too concerned about the fine itself, but moreso the insurance implications. Some insurance companies offer forgiveness on your first offence, but 36 over the limit is pretty steep. If you do get it lowered, and your insurance company does offer forgiveness, then you may get lucky. The ticket will be on your record for 3 years, so you'll be paying steep rates for a while.
I agree with others that having just gotten your G2, you should NOT be driving that fast!

I would do whatever you can to at least get no points because as it stands if you're guilty (most likely) you've just also increased your insurance premium 10x.

Bad advice. Remember, you were doing 36 km over the 80 kmph speed limit. No JP is going to believe that you had no idea that you were speeding, and you will just reduce your credibility.

Another uninformative post...
Demerit points have nothing to do with insurance premium. It's been mentioned hundreds of times in other threads. As far as your insurance is concerned, a ticket is a ticket, no matter how many points you got for your offence.

Well I went to the JP in Peterborough where I live and they told me I would have to go to Kingston to try and get it reduced or to take it to court So it looks like I'm going to have to just pay it.
Do you think if I go to points or something they could take care of this for me for any cheaper or should I Just pay it and slow down?
