I found this through Travelzoo France.
On the French website of the Novotel chain of hotels (novotel.com), they have a promotion of 4000 french Novotel hotel rooms for 40 euros each. I booked a room at the Novotel Paris Les Halles Hotel during my upcoming trip to Paris this summer. Rooms are usually $300+ there, awesome hotel in excellent location, walking distance to Notre Dame. This is probably the best French Novotel hotel. Anyways, act fast as rooms are sure to sell quickly.

Another way to get cheap hotel rooms in Europe is through the budget hotel chains. Particularly IBIS and ETAP, both of which can be booked through their parent company ACCOR.com

Anyone have any other tips for scoring cheap european hotels?

Something I find amusing.
If you visit the Novotel site in English, the deal is not available. However; if you simply click display in French then the special rates become available.
I'm heading over there this Saturday with some friends, this deal comes in perfect time.

Just a note that the IBIS hotels in Paris are super duper cheap and clean but it's pretty much like a holiday inn ... or maybe even a bit lower end actually. It's not "ghetto" or anything and it's certainly a step up from a private hostel room but don't expect it to be anything like even a really dumpy Hilton.

I also stayed at the IBIS in Paris. From what I remember, it was about 50 euros a night. It's located near La Défense and a ten minute walk from the metro, which I assume and highly recommend being your main transportation. It was really clean and breakfast was superb (any food in France generally superb). When I went to Rome, I stayed at the Novotel on the outskirts of Rome for 100 euros (still pretty cheap relative to other hotels in Rome). Being a four star hotel, I didn't really see a big difference between it and the IBIS. Nevertheless Novotels are usually really good for the price. Amazing breakfast, decent pool, internet access, and good shuttle bus service.
