Going to South East Asia for about 3 month starting September.
Looking for a good qaulity backpack which won't break my back.
I have been looking into North Face and Alpine brand. Looking for 70-90 litre capacity.
Any suggestions?
Any will be greatly appreciated.

use the search function.. This has been discussed many, many times on the travel forum.

I ended up purchasing a 70L Asolo Navigator, never let me down through 3 months of backpacking

I've heard equally good things about MEC if the Asolo isn't for you

Do you have a Europe Bound (http://www.europebound.com) near you?

having been a store manager in the outdoor gear business for many years I have sold all kinds of packs. Nobody makes a better pack for either hiking, trekking or traveling than the British Karrimor. They also come with the best warranty in the business. what makes them so good is the quality of their production. They are the people who make backpacks for the SAS and most of the regular Brit army as well.About the only pack maker that can rival their quality is MacPac out of New Zealand but they are not available in North America.Asolo Navigators are ok if you want a middle of the road travel pack-they certainly beat the hell out of MEC quality. We also ran a Stitch and repair shop so we handled a lot of warranty repairs. Taiga and MEC topped the list for shoddy products in my professional opinion. For those of you who are interested I also do travel writeups on many countries and areas around the world. Tell me where you're going and maybe I can hook you up very well when you get there. I have lived worked and traveled in 70+ countries. Blackeagle@shaw.ca

Try and pay some attention to the weight of these monsters. Some modern backpacks have so many unnecessary doo-dads that they can get to weighing almost 10 pounds with nothing in them! (For example, the Asolo Navigator 70 L. weighs 7.5 lbs. empty.)

In my experience, nothing contributes to happiness more than travelling light, which I would define as optimally carrying less than 25 lbs.

I'd encourage you to try and find a great big, light, cheap, simple daypack.

(While not focused on the backpacker - websites like http://www.onebag.com/ describe some of the decision points a light traveller needs to examine.)

A filled 70-90L pack would be heavy for backpacking in cities. A pack that large would be a pain when on transit, etc. Go for a pack that's about 60-70. I have the Arcteryx Bora 65. WELL MADE pack, Canadian company, lifetime guarantee, very water resistent and made with a lot of 'sensible logic'.
