Why isn't he competing in the hr derby?

I certainly don't care for him but he owes it to his fans of SF for voting him in. He owes it to the fans of SF for supporting him. The game is being played in SF and he won't even participate and put on a show for the fans. Grade A douche bag.

He's the type of arrogant ass that believes the fans owe him, not the other way around.

I was so sure that even Bonds would have the decency to participate but I gave him far too much credit. I wish all the fans in SF boo the hell out of him tonight and tomorrow.

Not that I don't agree with the premise of the thread, but if somebody other than Bonds did this - no big deal.

Bonds has always cared about himself and no one else. This is a no surprise. What is surprising is him getting voted in. I wonder if the voting was fixed. I mean only Giants' fans like him.

Reminds me of the funniest David Cross joke about athletes talking in 3rd person

Well think about how he grew up. I don't know how Bobby was as a person, but Barry grew up as the son of a baseball star, who happened to have even more talent than his dad. Do you expect him to be a modest Joe, just thankful to have a baseball career? I'm sure to him it is a divine right. Somewhat similar to Brett Hull, who is a bit of an ass but not so much so as Barry.

Prince Fielder is the same too.

Prince Fielder is the same too.

I would beg to differ. Prince has had some differences with his dad who ran into legal and financial problems after his playing career is over. I believe Cecil gambled away all of his fortune and resorted to doing some rather seedy and borderline criminal stuff after

Prince plays in Milwaukee, a small-market team, we don't usually hear about him a whole lot. He did have one inside-the-park home run this year, considering he's around 250 lbs, that shows he has a lot of hustle and motivation. I don't know if he's a questionable character off the field but on the field, he's alright to me.

That inside the park home run wasn't as impressive as it seemed. They said it hit something on the roof, and that's why the centre fielder was way out of position.

Bonds is 43 years old. If he doesn't want to do something as physically exhausting as a home run derby, then so be it, it doesn't make him a douche. The home run derby is a separate event from the all-star game, you can be in the derby and not in the all star game. His fans voted him into the all-star game, not the home run derby.

I'm a huge Giants fan but Bonds is a douche, no doubt about it. The owner of the Giants even said he should have participated. But he also said Bonds told him why he's not so he 'understands'. Still a prick.

I hate bonds, total loser. But I wont bash him for not competing... AT&T Park is one of the hardest parks to hit in, and you swing that many times in one game, it will ware you down... Just look at what was happening to Vlad in the second round, he was dead tired. Bonds is fat, he would have collapsed if he was in it, and probably would have not even tried. It is better that he was not in it, someone more deserving (Rios) was in.

I was wondering the same thing. But sportscasters everywhere are just not making a big deal about it. THey' like 'we understand' and all that.

i'm pissed off at bonds for coming out and saying stuff like "oh i appreciate the fans for supporting me and voting me in" and sh*t like that because it didn't even seem like he really appreciated it. however, at the same time you have to understand that he's 43 yrs old and swinging for HR's in perhaps 3 rounds can tire somebody out quickly. vlad got pretty tired in the second round too imo and he's younger than bonds, it would be a blow to the giants team (although they are not in playoff contention) if bonds had an injury participating in the HR derby.

i don't like bonds and what he has to say to the media, but there's still a part of me that understands why he didn't participate. i'm not exactly saying it was the right thing to do, but i'm not gonna call him a grade A douche because of it.

The pitchers are not throwing knuckleballs and screwballs and 100mph fastballs where thebatter has to guess where to hit.

If he just plays the 1st round swinging trying to win it all and give a half-ass 2nd round I dotn think people will complain. He can just say i was tired for the 2nd round, people will probably understand as they realize he's 43.

They just wanted to see him swing some balls outta the park so just by going out there to do so for a little bit wont hurt.

That interview could not have been a more rehearsed. Half of the time he wasn't even answering the questions.

if he performed a half-ass job in the second round, people will probably criticize him for not trying. anything the guy does, we're always going to have something negative to say about him. he's got a bad reputation to begin with.

-1, stfu that was a stupid comment. the fact is, what if he got injured in the derby and never got another chance to break the record?

-1, i hope u know that ppl voted internationally as well and bonds has more fans than in san fran.

+1, exactly what i was thinking.

lots of haters here, but at least this one used common sense and didnt use some stupid half-ass comment like "bonds is gay, he is a douche"

+1, if he won the derby, ppl would be saying he was taking steroids again. at this stage, bonds shouldnt even care what anyone thinks anymore

Keep in mind Bonds is a CLOSE CLOSE friend to A-Rod who is the biggest douche in baseball next to Gold Digging Roger Clemens.

Not always true. There were guys in the HR derby in the past several years that are heavy hitters but come up with hitting a small handful out. At least they were there to try and please some fans.

How can it please anyone when they expected him to participate and he's just sitting by the side watching?
