i found a car that i would like to purchase, however there is a small problem that i find annoying with it which has stopped me from buying it.

it is an auto but the gear box is shifted upward. there is no park, and P is actually R, N is D, and so on. in order to put the car in park you have to put on the emergency parking break on. i was wondering if anyone knows if this is a hard problem to fix and how much it might cost me.

its an 88 mark vii.

the interior is also a mess. does anyone know of a place that will put in leather seats in the toronto area? and prices?

thanks for any info, i really appreciate it!

As for the leather interior, try calling Concepts on Wheels!!

As for the Gearshifter, did someone tinker with the gearshift cable???

reminds me of trailer park boys and ricky's car.

"If you put it in D it goes backwards, put it in P to go forward and R is neutral" :P

If this car uses a shift cable, it could be as simple as a readjustment to that. From what I hear it's common for them to break and sometimes they are replaced with the wrong ones which could cause the issue as you describe. Keep in mind I'm no mechanic whatsoever.

well i talked to the seller again and he said he installed the cable himself which is why its a little short.

how much do you think this would cost to get a new cable attached?

thanks for all the input so far!
