I don't think this has been posted yet. I recently bought my 2nd carbon fiber tripod from the Benro wholesaler in Canada and the lady was so nice that she gave me good discount as a valuable returning customer. When I mentioned RFD she readily offered a few coupons on top of their sale prices exclusive to us RFD fellas!

So this is their site: www.benphoto.ca (http://www.benphoto.ca) ,
the three coupons are:
$20 off $200: RFDBENRO20OFF
$30 off $300: RFDBENRO30OFF
$40 off $400: RFDBENRO40OFF
Exp. Jul 21, 2007

Shipping is about $15 for a tripod, $11 for a ball head, which seems fairly reasonable to me. Their service has been great and their shipping is usually super fast too.

Enjoy!

p.s. btw I bought the C-298 + KS-1

Those look nice. Any reviews or hands-on opinions?
Comparable to manfrotto/bogen?

they are gitzo/AS replica, heard minor problems in the beginning but if you look at the price ...

I own a C297+KS1 ballhead. It's definitely a very nice tripod. Not having to lug
15lbs of aluminum tripod is really nice. Rumor has it the chinese company that makes them was hired originally by Gitzo to be their OEM supplier. They went behind Gitzo's back and used the plans to make their own versions with improvements. I've read nothing but positive comments. Definitely the best bang for the buck. They are also now being marketed as Induro by Mamiya US.

I have a c228 with a KS-1...very good quality. I am very happy with my Benro. Would definitely recommend it to those who are considering it.

Thanks to the OP for sharing this. I've been looking for a good tripod and Benro is at the top of my list as far as price/value goes. BenPhoto seems to have very good prices for most models, and the coupons only improve the deal. Vistek (http://www.vistek.ca/) is the only other Canadian company I've found that sells these.

One question... in my research, and on the BenPhoto site, I'm seeing a model number discrepancy pop up... how come Benro (http://www.benro.cn/Product/1/pa1.html) lists most tripods using the C-x57/C-x58 format (for example), but BenPhoto (http://benphoto.ca/store//catalog/index.php?cPath=22) lists 'equivalent' models using the format C-x27/C-x28 (however, they do put the preceding model numbers in brackets for each product).

Has Benro simply changed the model numbers on us, or have they actually revised the tripods?

It's probably ok but when I tried to go to the Checkout I got this warning:

They're probably using a shared SSL certificate, that's why you got the warning message. One of the possibilities..

damn I hate it when RFD costs me money! I might get one of these, as I have been holding off for a good tripod for awhile...

I got some decent gear and I think I might splurge on something like this ... does the ball come with any extra quick-release mounts or just the one? ...

I'd like one for my camera and one for my 100-400L lens ....

although.. heh, I know I'll take better shots with this but the thought of lugging around a tripod aswell with my large lens (that I actually dont mind hauling around) doesn't sound appealing .... .. I actually try to ditch the camera bag as much as possible and just go around with the one lens and rely on the IS of the large lens...

What would you guys suggest for just something cheap and stable if I just wanted it for low weight lenses (ie say my tamron 17-50mm)....

It's funny, I just checked this post a couple of days ago to see if these coupons would still work but they don't, as you probably already knew.

Just an FYI - You can also order from her/there Ebay store at:

http://search.ebay.ca/_W0QQfgtpZ1QQfrppZ25QQsassZbonnieQ2eylQQssPageName ZSTRKQ3aMEWNQ3aMESOI

I just bought a C-257n6, AC-23 Short Centre Post and KJ-1 head. They have great service, reply very quickly in my experience and were flexible with the type of shipping I wanted (Express). If you are ordering a few things I am sure they will give a you a discount on combined shipping, you may need to ask for it though.

I didn't bother asking for discount codes.

Too bad they don't have any fluid heads for video. Would their tripods take a Manfrotto head?

Yes, I am 99.999% sure it would, I haven't received mine yet but the literature says they are 3/8", if not, all of the stuff I ordered is going back.

All tripods use a standard 3/8" connection, some are 1/4" but adapters are readily available to convert them to 3/8".

Benro tripods offer great 'bang for the buck' but are definitely not as highly regarded as Gitzo etc...

What are you using it for/with?

What camera and lenses would you be using with mostly?

Are you using it for wildlife photography, portrait or macro type work or ???

I dont have a huge lens, but I do use tripod for my ringflash/camera together... is one of the big RF, not the tiny one for macro...

I dont need a heavy duty tripod, just want a CF that will be light and easy to carry around... My Slik tripod is just doing fine for me, but is a bit heavy...

It's hard to say, I had a Velbon Sherpa Pro CF530 with my D80/grip/Sigma 150mm 2.8 Macro with the Nikon R1 macro ringflash system and it worked great. I was using a Manfrotto 488RC2 at the time with a RRS clamp and plate. Very lightweight but sufficiently stable.

Just try weighing your system and then refer to the spec's for the various tripod and head options and figure out which will work best for you. That's what I do basically and then get the next model up, just to be sure... ;)
