First question... Did you file an accident report with your employer?

yah i think you hafta report it within at most 24 hours or something in order to qualify for workers compensation, at least thats how they do it for city of toronto workers. hopefully you hurt your foot yesterday rather than on monday.

Notify your employer as soon as possible of the injury, make sure you have a co-worker that can confirm the injury happened on site (otherwise they may think you hurt yourself at home and want paid time off at the expense of the company's premium).

Once that is done, file a claim. The WSIB isn't going to deny your claim just because you failed to fill a form out within the 24 hour period...especially if there are circumstances involved.

In the future, if you hurt yourself while on the job site and it *could* be major, make sure you notify your employer as quickly as possible...doesn't matter if you don't think you'll be needing time off to recuperate as this exact situation could happen.

EDIT: I'd also suggest getting checked out by a doctor so that he can confirm how long you'll be out of commission for. I know 2 workplaces I worked at before...if the person wasn't going to be out for very long (let's say 2 weeks) they would tell them to just stay home and they would pay them their regular pay so that the company's rates would not go up. They may also give you a really simply no-task using job for the next 2 weeks like greeter at the front door or something like that. Discuss the matter with your employer AFTER you find out how long you'll need to get better.
