Wow, that is a good deal.

That's smoking hot. The lens itself retails for about $600 and without a 40D in sight (unless FS is onto something), that's a state of the art body even though it's a year+ old.

yeah ive been watching the price and future shop has had this deal on for about 3 weeks now, none of the stores in nova scotia or new brunswick have any stock on the 30d.
the store in halifax has an open box 18-55 30d kit and she said she would match the web price and throw in the 18 -55 lens for free. but i dont like buying open box

The cheapest price in our local store is...

$1349 + $594 = $1943.

Not sure if buying through the web works or not, but there's a chance you can get an additional $150 Rebate from Canon before July 31: http://www.canon.ca/english/whatsnew/pdf/CashInDSLR_Promo.pdf

The 30D is supposedly getting replaced with a newer model (40D?) in a few months.

Wow..I think I'd get that and sell my XT w/the 28-135 lens from this kit...it would make it a 600-700$ for the 30D...hmmm..it's even more tempting when I factor in the 150$ rebate from Canon.

Use this Canon rebate as well for a further $150 off!

Yup I got customers coming in and buying the 30D kit w/28-135 IS + BG-E2 kit for $1599.99. Then they take the lens and sell it elsewhere. so the break down:

1599.99 + taxes = 1824 - (150 (rebate for body) + 20 (for grip) = 1654 - 400 (selling the 28-135 roughly) = 1254 for the 30D body + BG-E2 Battery Grip.

the 30D body roughly goes for $1230 + taxes, the BG-E2 goes for roughly $250 + taxes so:

30D = $1402.20 - 150 (rebate) = 1252.20 + (250 + 14% (BG-E2)) = $1537.20 - 20 (rebate grip) = $1517.20

Total = $1517.20 - 1254 = $263.20 difference. Basically a free grip plus $263.20 in your pocket!

Just to keep things in perspective, with this sale they are matching the regular everyday price you could get from either B+H or Adorama for this package.

And yes, I know they're American, but I bought all my Canon stuff from them and it all came with a US/Canada warranty. This is the deep dark secret that all Canadian Canon retailers don't want you to know. Except for seeing a product up close and personal, there is absolutely no reason to buy local and pay the regular grossly inflated Canadian retail price. FS is competitive on this package -- but only for as long as the sale price and Canon rebate are in effect.

BTW, this is a very old lens in Canon's line and is a mediocre performer at best. It suffers from CA, is very slow at f5.6 (135mm), and is not very sharp. Also, the IS is Canon's first generation, is very slow, and takes a while to settle down -- really drains the battery. You'll be lucky to get more than $300 US on eBay.

Not true at all, this lens routinely sells for more than 300 on the canon enthusiasts sites. For CDN prices, this is hot, but yes, its just about on par with US prices, but you're dealing locally with FS which is nice if you have to return for any reason

And as a bonus you can apply th Canon MIR to boot -- something that you cannot do if you get it in the US.

Argh -- I've bitten the bullet and ordered one. Anyone recommend a place online in Canada to get the battery grip? I'll need to see what Simon's sells it for locally in MTL..

I would be interested in trading my XTi body for a 30D body. I'll include cash.
Body bought in January at FS. Located in Montreal.
