Hi all,
I just recently noticed that Shoppers Drug Mart is now selling gift cards from a bunch of different retailers, like Future Shop, Best Buy, Chapters, etc.
I've been stockpiling my optimum points for a while now and I'm wondering if I can use my points to buy these cards? I know they don't allow it for in-store gift cards, but I was hoping they'd allow it for gift cards from other retailers.
I'm guessing they don't allow it, but I figured I'd give it a shot :)
Anyone have any experience with this?

Why didn't you just ask, or login to your Optimum account online and check to see if you can redeem it online?

I've found that there is a bit of inconsistency when Shoppers enforces Optimum rules. Last time I redeemed my points, I had to run around a bit to find a location that would allow me to redeem my points for LifeExperiences cards. In the end I was able to, but certain locations were more strict than others.
I was hoping someone had experience with this, or could suggest locations in the GTA that will be more likely to allow me to do this.
On the website, it says that points cannot be used towards gift cards, but it doesn't specify if this is Shoppers-only gift cards or all gift cards.

No, you're not allowed to redeem SDM points for gift cards. Wasn't able to redeem for them the last time. Although as others have mentioned, it might depend on who is serving you since last year or so, the girl at the cosmetics section who checked out my points confirmed I could redeem for gift cards when I asked (although I didn't bother to at the time because the only gift cards available were SDM, Cara, Chapters, etc).
Like all programs, maybe in the beginning it was easier to redeem for them but now much harder.

You're not allowed to redeem optimum pts for gift cards. The cards have cash values *note the keyword... cash*. You can get optimum pts from buying GC's for other stores. That's exactly what I do... if I know I need to buy something that's like $100 from like BB, I go to SDM and buy a $100 GC and get 1k optimum pts for it. Free pts? Why not.

That's an awesome idea! If you could redeem optimumu points for cash products, gift cards and prepaid cards would be at the top of my list.
