Their tv show is great. Their cookbooks are AWESOME. Every recipe I tried turned out excellent and they tell you why and what they did to improve it.

The company's coming series is quite good and relatively simple. I don't know for a fact that they have an italian specific book but their series is so comprehensive I'd be surprised if they didn't. The american heart association has an excellent big cookbook too.

I've heard excellent things about the sopranos cookbook believe it or not, but I don't know anyone with first hand experience eating from it.

Don't try and one-up your parents though. I've got two full shelves of cookbooks and consider myself a pretty decent cook, and I will never hold a candle to my Mom's cooking. The trick is to take their recipes and make them your "own". For my mom's lasagna I'll deglaze the meat browning pan with a nice Chianti (or cab-merlot if it's open) and add that to the sauce. Other than that I'll use her recipe step by step.
