...or suggestions of jobs which do not deal with people! =)
Summer's here! Tons of students are working in the mall for an extra buck. They are starting to loathe their jobs but still need the money. (I.E. Me)
I'm certain there are retail veterans in this forum who can come up with suggestions. How is a CSR supposed to act (cause my company seriously puts customer service at the very bottom rung of importance...^_^) such that they will be treated like a real human being by all customers?
Please make practical suggestions. Ones about giving discounts and doing things that will get a person fired are not what I'm looking for. Meanwhile, if the suggestions don't work out, I'm still jobhunting for something that doesn't involve people.
P.S. Does this belong in the careers forum?

Working at retail in the past... in wireless... here is the best advice:
Do not waste your time...
If a customer is not buying... let them look around themself... Sometimes you can tell from an initial conversation and attitude to just avoid them...
Now... if they bug you to give them information to take home and compare prices or the "I need to consult my siginifcant other" etc.... thats when you PUSH them to buy it.... otherwise its wasting your time...

Don't bother me until I ask for your help
And don't ignore me if I ask for your help.

Your definately the customer who just asks for information and leaves...
I would of helped you with little or no effort until you got the message to not waste a reps time...

Never worked retail before, but as a consumer, just be nice and helpful, and make crap up. Even if I don't buy now, I'll likely come back to you who was nice and helpful to me to seal a deal.

Do not ask me what can you help me with, but rather give me comments/suggestions on the products I'm looking at.

Not so much "paid for", but rather "paid by". Paid by comission :P

LOL... some of you don't get the point...
It has nothing to do with commission etc... its the fact that I AVOID cheap people once I realize they are like that from an initial conversation...
No one likes to help pennypinchers...or people planning to return something the next day... might as well save everyone time... I'd rather someone NOT buy something at times... then actually buy it....
Dam those retail days were fun...
