good idea, I hope it works out well.I completely disagree. An online popularity contest? Yeah, that's already been done, it's myspace and Facebook. What is this, junior high, or a deals website? I will not be participating in this juvenile behaviour. Please mark my ballots as all spoiled in protest.

why no best motor vehicles award? That was the only reason I have been running the cool wall there all this time

Someone's not winning anything. :D

I agree it's all about popularity, and the winners will be the elitist oldies.

The only way to get recognized/nominated is to have MJM's post count or be a borderline troll/flamer.

Although I'm not as harsh, I agree this is kinda childish and lame. You do this kind of stuff at tween/teen sites...not in a place like this. It makes no sense.

Oh well, what do I know....

This is no popularity contest.. Well, maybe one or two awards are.. For the most part it seems the reason for these awards is to reward those who have contributed to RFD. There is an incredible amount of useful info on these boards, and credit should be given to those who have gone the extra mile. For those not nominated, it gives them a chance to show their support for those who have provided useful info. Lets face it, these forums wouldn't be anything if not for those users who have taken the time to share their knowledge.

So, if the mods/admins will choose up to ten nominees for each category, how do you determine the finalists if there are more than 10 nominations? I can see the threads already devolving into a "+1 for ___!" shouting match, and it's not even voting time yet...

That would be pretty difficult to distinguish.. because they dont post?

I think there should be a special award given to the member who contributes the most every year - as selected by the Mods.

Basically, who posted the most over the current year (minus those idiots who post "BUMP" or "IBTL").

There are plenty of people who rack up 5000+ posts a year who don't contribute anything, while there are folks who come on every day and contribute valuable posts, but only rack up 2000 posts a year.

Just a thought.

Someone's not winning anything. That's the way I'd want it. On the unlikely chance I'm nominated, please remove me from the ballot. It's an "accolade" that I'd rather not be saddled with.

credit should be given to those who have gone the extra mile. It's a community. I'm as appreciative to the person who only posted one deal to the person that has some up daily. Take away any member, and the site is then not what it could be. Or are you suggesting that some members "are more equal" than others?

Unfortunately, I think you've taken what I've stated out of context. I'm speaking generally, not just deals in specific. When I made that statement I was thinking about users like Puff_Daddy, who has religiously contributed to the boards, in the form of the 'cool wall'. Or Digital_Dolphin, whose thread on Blank Media has provided tons of information to the community. The list of users whom have contributed in that fashion goes on and on.

Those quotes you've provided, they do make a point. However, this is a forum where everyone is anonymous. Ones reputation is based and supported by what they post. You're not going to get me to claim one users status is more valuable then anothers, however, everyone possesses some form of knowledge that another doesn't. People who do go the distance to offer that information, deserve to be recognized. If anything, this will encourage other users to speak up and offer their knowledge. I'm sure most users would be satisfied to just be nominated to begin with.

I'm not too fond of choosing a single user as being more contributive then another, however. Its tough, but I'm basing my vote on those who have provided quality posts as opposed to quantity. This is why my votes are going to users like JollyEskimo, Techie, and pdiddy, eventhough they may not win(sorry guys, just going by the responses). If only users with mass amounts of posts are nominated, I will just not vote all together because it will have turned into, like other users have suggested, a popularity contest.

There really shouldn't be a definitive winner. The $50 GC should be split amongst a 'Top 5' for each category, $10 each. And maybe they all get a free t-shirt and some gimmicky trophy icon beside their screenname.

i'd kinda agree w/ this... there should be a "top X" list...

LOL always got to love popularity contests :) Its quit amusing at times seeing who people "Vote" for and some times you got to shake your head. I hope that the mods/admin actually seek out those who contribute to this board over all and maybe make special awards for those unless of course they already win by votes.

I know there are quite a few people on this board who do go out of their way to lend a hand, to offer up great deals time and time again and never once ask for the "special attention" but I do believe that people tend to vote with who they hear or see speaking a lot and I think that the mods should know who should be awarded these type of awards without a vote

Anyways my 2 cents and good luck everyone I see a few people who do deserve recognition from this board and I want to say thank you for it!:D

+1

Apparently it also serves the purpose of giving people one more thing to argue about...though for the life of me I can't see why anyone would be bothered. Who's being hurt?

If I might make one small suggestion. A rule stating that a single member can only win in one category might be nice. I could easily see maybe 2 or 3 members taking all of the categories between them

On the other hand, maybe if they deserve it that's fair? But I'd personally like to see it more spread out.

It's all up to all the members out there. If they think any member deserves more than one award I think it's only fair that they receive it.

I took a quick look at the voting for all the different categories and as it stands there's no repeat winners yet. Definitely lots of time for things to change but I don't think we're going to end up with just 2 or 3 winners - I agree that a result like that would be less than ideal.

I see this as something fun to do - and it's purely optional. Your knickers are in a knot. Lighten up and don't bother clicking on this thread if you feel that strongly against it.
