Is this a good car? Any major problems? Thinking of picking one up for 12000 + tax. Just off lease, mint condition.

Enjoy it. Nothing bad to say about it. Just not my cup of tea! It's a Honda so expect it to be good until about 400,000 km

I drove one of these. Not a fan of the styling, but the gearbox was knotchy lovely. Surprisingly easy to drive, very smooth.

thanks for the positive comments.

I'm getting it from a dealer. Warranty and rust proofing, dealer certified included. I think I scored myself a good deal? Car has 100k on it right now, no accidents. Sound reasonable for 12k?

As long as the car is properly maintained, it should be fine. However, since we are living in a world where everything is shady buy at your own risk? ;)

On Autotrader, there is one with 105k and it's going for $15,000 so it seems like a good deal.

Take it for a few test drives to make sure you really like it!

I own one, 2002 as well it's at 85,000km so far, few things you might want to be weary of is my rear control arm bushings have been worn out already and makes whole bunch of squeaks. Also the steering racks on some of these cars make a squeak noise as well, it was actually a manufacture defect and the only known way to really fix it was swap out the steering rack with one from a RSX. Sometimes the electronic power steering will piss you off during turns because the wheel sort of keeps turning on its own and you have to pull it back quickly.

The transmission really should've been a 6 speed, you'll notice your RPM's at 4000 while in 5th gear at 120km. Gas mileage isn't the greatest compared to other Honda's, I get about 400km per tank.

All I can think of for now, feel free to ask if you have any further questions.

Poor explanation of your statement.

Poor explanation of your statement.

What, now you're putting the onus on me? You're the one who made the original statement.

Let me say that I regularly drive two Hondas - one '92 Accord EX-R with 360K, and one '91 Civic SI with 260K. Expecting a car to last 400K just because it's a Honda is ridiculous. You need to maintain and stay ontop of service schedules and maintenance, and the car will treat you right. It's like the generalization that all Japanese cars will last forever just because they're Japanese. Far from the truth in many situations.

An SiR would be nice, but the insurance is going to suck...

Thanks for the tips.

I originally thought insurance was going to average around the 5k range, but I was able to get decent rate for 3.5k Not bad for a 21 year old, with a clean driving record, who is on the car as primary and owner.

I didint realize it was only about 400km a tank, I thought it would be more. I took it for a test drive, and did some donuts in the parking lot, and a bit of regular driving, and I didn't hear anything weird. The clutch grabs very well, and the power is so much different vs my buddy's 2007 civic EX coupe.

This car is quite rare on the street, so i've considered installing a two way alarm as well pick up a steering wheel lock.

My buddy's 91 EX-R is still running strong with 400km on it

I also got another friend who has a 81 classic caprice, also has about 400km on it so GMs can last long too!

If you granny the car, you can probably squeeze out a bit more than 400km. :D

Ok I guess I meant to say with proper and regular maintenance, it will last to 400,000 km or close to there so it is a reliable car. Comparing it to a Sunifire, this car is better imo.

i drive one of this. pretty good car, i was shopping for a RSX originally, but couldn't find a decent one in my price range. so i got this instead. and i am happy i did. the price is lower and more room in general, especially in the back.

it's pretty much the same car like the non-S RSX.

very easy to drive. the car is made in UK, feel more solid than other Civic i've drove before.

The steering rack is usually OK, unless the car is lower significantly. that's the same for rsx as well. I was told it has something to do with the front suspension design.

Other than than, squeaky clutch is a common issue for 02-05 honda with manual due to flawed master clutch cylinder design. it could be replace for ~$350 at honda. it's not necessary though as it is not a safety thing.

btw. i rarely hear EP3 got stolen. RSX-S is a much hotter car if someone is after K-series engine and tranny.

OH. check for sunroof rust as well. you should check any bubble around the moldings and look inside from the car. (common rsx, ep3 problem as well)

except sunfire will also last 400K and cost around 1/15th of the price as well. Value proposition doesnt make sense and I drive an Acura as well. GM's have lasted recently (obviously, we will only know now since they are getting older and still being driven on roads as opposed to the crap they came out with earlier).

a sunfire can seriously last 400k? i know about the price difference but driving to 400k is unheard of but there will always be a car from any brand that can probably get that much mileage. what's the reason for the big price difference when comparing a sunfire to an SIR?

I used to drive one of these cars, lowered it on Eibach Sportlines and had RSX Rear Sway bar and also had an Injen short Ram intake for it as well.

It was a nice car though I never really like the way the shifter was on the console. Basically what happened with me was that I got a really good price for it when I sold it and then so well then decided to get rid of it.

Why not? Just stay ontop of maintenance. There are a lot of Sunfires and Cavaliers in Barrie - they're commuter cars and put on huge highway mileage.

personal experience and I have seen them sell at 465K and strong as ever as well. I had sold mine at 302K without any problems! It ran better than my current acura integra (but handling is obviously better on the teg)

Perception! That is the difference and obviously better comparison would be a base EX/DX/LX civic to a sunfire. Not SIR though.

I'd install an aftermarket car alarm system/immobilizer with 2-way remote.

Most people don't steal it for the car to drive, they want the parts.

If you're serious about not having your car stolen, I would get this: http://www.ravelco.com/index.htm , I'm going to get that for my car.. It's an old product (since the 70s) and no car with it installed has ever been stolen (or so they claim)

This car has an immoblizer already and that was my plan as well.
