Congrats on your interview. Don't stress out, just as long as you're not a psycho when you answer the questions, you should be fine. Interviews are just like mini-conversations, so as long as you can talk, you're in good shape.

great job to have as a student.
don't stress over the interview, for a position like that they are just looking at your behaviour and communication skills.
remember to take a deep breathe, relax and speak slowly. try to eliminate any traces of slang from your vocabulary.
also no matter how comfortable you make them feel resist the urge to swear.
i don't know how many times i've finished an interview knowing they could have been great to only have them mess it up by swearing or having them say "get back at me".
good luck fellow raptors fan.

Please don't get hired at Empire Empress, they might start putting someone there to man the theatres!!! =D

they hire everyone because its a high turn over job. Theres only so much popcorn a person will sweep for minimum wage and free movies. Know what your favorite movie is.
I once saw one employee wear a button that said "all this AND minimum wage" haha

I worked at Famous Players about 7 years ago while it was still its own company and the interview process wasn't hard. What they did for us was a group interview where they asked us to practice greeting guests, being outgoing, etc. They want to see some personality and make sure you're not just going to ignore people when they come in.

Just curious, did you apply online or walk in? I ask because their online application form asks for no cover letter/ resume.

its a pretty easy interview, almost everyone gets hired and yes there is a very high turnover rate. From my experience, people will leave once they hit ages 16-17.

Congrats! Now since I gave you advice, does that mean you're going to spend your first paycheck on me? Or you can sneak me into transformers - it was so packed yesterday at the theatres, I couldn't get in.

Good for you. Since Cineplex took over Famous, they sold some theatres to Empire. Kind of suck if when you only one location. You have go all the way to Bolton and Toronto to see that free movie!

the movie theatre was my first job, and my job throughout my teens.
Fun place to work. still cant believe i endured minimum wage for 2 years and slightly above min. wage @ a supervisory position there.
Just enjoy the free movies before you get sick of the place!

I work at Empire Theaters (then a Famous Players brand theater and later Cineplex Odeon for about a month), but the questions are pretty much the same. Greet the manager, shake their hand. They ask for your info (name, address, etc.), what school you go to, what's your favourite movie and why, etc. It's all scripted on their sheet and so it's time for you to perform. "How well do you work under stress?" It's quick and easy. 5-10 minutes.
Anyway, if you're looking for a job that is flexible with your school schedule and can work till around 11-midnight, and at least 2 shifts on weekends it's a good job. Minimum wage*. Free movies for you and 1 friend but with a catch.
What's the difference between working at Cineplex Odeon and Empire Theaters? Not much. Selling similiar combos with different names/prices. But the benefits at working at either theatres is different. At Cineplex Odeon, they get 2 free movie passes for 1 friend every paycheck. So they can see 1 movie a week or 2 movies in one week but not the other. But they get "free white bags of popcorn" when they're working and at minimum wage (unless they changed the policy, but I don't think so). Empire employees no free popcorn while working but get $3.00 off any combo, free movies with a friend any time with few restrictions, a wage increase every 400 hours you work.
Movie theaters tend to hire around certain times. So if you are a student or teenage son/daughter wants to apply, you really have to drop off a resume at the right time or they'll file it away and not look at it -- between April-June (sometimes twice), September-early October, and/or early December. It's also a selective process. You do have to be or/at least seem confident during your interview. It's also better to drop off an application in person at box office and doing one on-line because they'll look at it and might for get about it later.
