I am thinking of importing a X5 3.0i... the warranty is transferred but not the 4 year free maintenance. I am wondering if the maintenace or repairs would be very expensive because it is a German vehicle or would it be on par with the RX350, Cayenne, Range Rover Sport, ML350 etc...?
I found a site with cost to own prices and it showed that over 5 years, the BMW X5 3.0i will incur $2000 US in maintenance and $1000 in repairs.

Not sure about BMW but i know MB services are about $200-350 per service on average. This is for a 03 C240 (Car, not SUV...not sure if there is a price dif. for services..)

If you look into the "maintenance" on these types of vechiles you'll find at maintenance intervals they merely do an oil change and then some worthless inspections and other low-cost services and then ring up some crazy "maintenance package" price of $300  Whether the car is from Germany or New Zealand, it doesn't actually take any more work to change oil, rotate tyres, inspect suspension, brakes, etc.
Really, there's not much to the maintenance. If you do it on your own or at least outside of the dealership, it won't be that expensive at all. If you're nuts and insist on going to the stealership for them to rip you off, then yeah it will cost you. Up to you anyway, lol.
The only thing that is probably worth it from the free maintenance is that I think BMW includes stuff like brake pads in that maintenance don't they?
How close to a border are you? Why not just mosey on over to the US when you need your maintenance done?
As for repairs, if you're buying a 2007/2008 vehicle I would sincerely hope there are no repairs you are going to have to pay for. Plus you already stated the warranty carries over, so nothing to worry about there.
