Just wondering, from the point where i order auto insurance, whats the fastest time before it kicks in? Do i hv to wait like a week for all the paper work? or can i just print off a temporary and use it the next day? Thanx

i think it is the moment you've made the agreement on the phone with the insurance company, you are covered. in terms of what the cops will do when you are pulled over and they do a check on you, i don't know if you can still get a ticket for not having any insurance paper on you but i know if you were to buy a brand new car, you are automatically covered by your insurance company for up to 14 days before you notify them.

The insurance starts at 12:01am on the effective date of the policy. Your broker or agent will ask you what day that should be. Usually it's either the date you take delivery of the new car, or the date your previous policy runs out. But you can call and have the insurance effective the same day - as long as they verbally tell you that you've been accepted.

Either way, you will be given a temporary "pink slip" which is the proof of insurance document.
