Vibecomputers went down after a nice closeout sale. Best item was the Func 1030 mouse pad (reg NCIX $30), sale for $1.
Also DDR3200 ram for 100 (2x 1GB, dual channel).
Countless mod items, etc.
Picked up a couple nice deals during their clearance but everything was out of stock FAST.

I remember when he started out, selling Evermax power supplies on Usenet. Too bad.
Also remember when eBay started out the same way and were looking for investors.
Things worked out much better for eBay, and I still kick myself for thinking eBay would never make any money. >:(

Too bad, I enjoyed buying stuff there from Neil and his cronies.
In fact, I was just planning another purchase. I wonder what he will do now?

Was bigfoot the last of the stores that sold mostly modding/enthusiast stuff? I'm surprised that it lasted until now...

I bought things over the years from Bigfoot, but as other cheaper computer shops started carrying overclocking fans and cases, I stopped going. Too bad, they carried some stuff you couldnt find elsewhere in the GTA.

Vibecomputers was the bomb back in the day until they got hacked or something. Bigfoot was an awesome store but EXPENSIVE by any comparison. They just carried some items that were hard to find. However, these guys had excellent CUSTOMER SERVICE. They went above and beyond for me on several occasions and its a sad day to see them go like Adpmods.

Wow...bought my first Golden Orb heatsink from Neil off a posting on the usenet back in the day. They were expensive, but made up for it in service. It's a dying business model these days.

Biggie was where I first got into computer overclocking/modding.
One of their problems is they drove away customers in their forums, because they let some users really offend others. Alot of the mods were really bad for this, they would pretty much attack anyone with a higher knowledge than them.
The service was good. But the prices were very high on the bread and butter products.

I would also like to know.
I think we are stuck with the big online stores we have now and some USA retailers that have cheap USPS option for us.
I've been making a list so if someone know more of these please post.

wow....thats a sad day...i was looking at their site a few weeks ago...realized that a lot of the things were pretty expensive in comparison to other shops...
Though i know that neil and every1 at bigfoot had the absolute best customer service....Better than any other retail store I've ever been in...even better than buying a car at the bmw dealership.
One time I bought a RatPadz from him...it was missing 1 rubber foot when I received it...I posted on the forum and the next day at 9am...i received a package(bubble wrap and all...order number...with 3 rubber feet...next day shipping...)
Then I remember the first time I ordered 2 DKT Pad's in '02 or '03(which i still love and am using to this day)...he said he would post it online sometime during the night...i was playing CS and at 4am he just posted it on the site and sent me a PM...i ordered 2 right away and neil said on the forum that i was probably the fastest person to order a new product(probably 1 min after it was posted online)
they had many products that were only available in US....but charged a premium....
and finally....the forum....before it turned to **** in late 2003....was so much better than RFD WAS at the time...then it became crap and RFD is ...well....still is a place for the cheap..

While I hate to see any Canuck retailer go down in flames like that, I was never able to get beyond their prices. They sold too many items that were available a few blocks away for significantly less money.

If you want to find a good list of computer stores in BC that sell those mouse pads and other specialty items, google "PCheck" and checkout their price search engine. It has pretty good coverage for BC.

Just wait guys. Canada Computers is in a lot of financial trouble right now, too. All the employees are about to get a pay cut and they're planning on closing a couple of stores. Seems the economy might be good for consumers, but it's terrible for business.

And where exactly did you hear this from?
I'm doubtful when their Ajax store just opened a month ago, and a few others opened during the last year.

I made this post (http://rfd-web1.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=458933) about the same topic. I'm trying to find local GTA retailers with the less common modding stuff (i.e. molex connectors, etc.).

Canada computers will not go out of business. They are a distribution company (One of the largest) first and foremost. They re-distribute to smaller business. Retail is a secondary market to them.
Too bad bigfoot was gone. I bought Monitor harness, sleeving, heatsinks, fan grilles, lights etc. from them.
I think a huge problem, besides the prices, was thier location. They were located in the middle of nowhere.

The man has a point....I remeber going there once from the centre of the universe Scarborough/Markham and thought who the hell is out here in the overclock community....

Damn sucks to see them go, I remember getting all my water cooling stuff from there a few years ago when no other computer store in GTA would carry that sort of stuff. Just a few weeks ago I was in there buying some stuff, no signs stating closing down or anything. But like the previous poster's stated its location wasn't great. When I used to live in Markham it was a nightmare to drive there sometimes just to pick up like $5 bottle of coolant just because no where else had it. I think if their store location was somewhere like Spadina + College area it would attract a lot more customers.
