Alright, so far I found one company that I will be calling tomorrow to see if they are hiring for an electrical/electrician apprenticeship. But before I do that (since it is 3:15AM right now and I am about to go to bed), has anyone here gotten into this trade and got their certificate/licence?
I am in the Durham Region if that helps, if you are in the Durham Region and are an electrician could you please pm me and let me know, I need as many company names & numbers as possible to try and get into this.
Thanks for ANY help! It is very appreciated.

I know it's not specifically for Durham, but check out http://www.apprenticesearch.com. Lots of good info and employers willing to take on apprentices really do use the site to post job openings. Our oldest got hits within 24 hrs of uploading his resume....

If you live in the Pickering area the apprenticeship office is down near the go station. They might have a list. If you get a company to hire you jump on it. It's VERY hard to get a company willing to hire a 1st year. Most want a 3rd or higher.
Also, hope you have a car. Not many people will look at you if you don't. Bonus things to add to your resume are WHIMIS training, Fall-Arrest is a big plus, and first-aid.
And in this business 90% of new hires are from word of mouth or just calling around. Don't depend on the news paper or websites.

The apprenticeship offices do not have lists of employers looking for apprentices, we were actually told that it's against some policy if they did do that. If you're still in school a co-op more often than not ends in the company signing the OYAP contract...
Another place to check is local college job boards.

CSK is right, when I went there a few weeks ago, I asked about it and they said I have to find a company first... I am going to try and call one of them right now.
