I am asking for a friend :)
She has been told that most of the CA companies only do hiring around the September time and decided to find some temporary work now while she waits for that time to come around.
Is this reasoning true? Accounting firms only hire during the September months and do nothing during this time of year?

Yeah its true they like to bring in the new juniors a few months before busy season. The summer students have also all been hired. The big 4 are especially rigid about this. Maybe the 2nd or 3rd tier firms are a bit more flexible, that's where I'd look for right now.

Thanks for the reply, what is the best way to go about finding these accounting companies. Should she target CGA companies as well as any accounting related position within other industry organizations for the time being?

The easiest way is to go to the Ordre of Chartered accountants website for your province. It will list all the firms that are accredited to provide CA experience.
Then, cold call those firms and send the resumes.
This is what I did to get an offseason job in Quebec with a small Jewish firm.
CGAs and CMAs generally work in large corps in their accounting / finance departments. Those jobs are gotten just like any other jobs (internet, networking, etc.) The CGA ballgame is entirely different from the CA ballgame.
