Hi,
As my transfer credit evaluation from CGA will be expiring in 2 weeks time (July 12) and because I only realized a few days back that my firm will be shouldering 100% of the educational cost, should I enroll in at least one course at CGA (most likely Financial Accounting 2 (FA2)) to keep the rest of the transfer credits intact and then enroll at other online universities for the rest of the courses?
I would like to get some idea as to which university or college distance education program provides an excellent learning experience. At this stage, I am into learning Finance and Accounting more so than just obtaining the CGA designation.
At CGA, one is allowed to take one course per session. If I were to take other courses through distance education, what is the maximum number of courses I will be able to enroll in? I am left with the following courses to take in Level 2 and 3 as the rest I was exempted from:
Level 2
Financial Accounting 2 (FA2)
Level 3
Financial Accounting 3 (FA3)
Business Case 1 (BC1)
Thanks in advance.

I did. What makes you think I didn't? What's wrong with asking on this forum and getting some more opinions?
Cheers!

I am currently taking CGA equivalent courses through TRU (Thompson Rivers University). I find the courses really straight forward and easy to understand. I am looking into taking a course through Athabasca University because I like the structure of their programs. If I like their course format then I will transfer my credits. Just make sure the courses you take are transferable to the CGA program. You can find this information on the CGA website I believe.
Good Luck!

You are limited to take courses offered by CGA @ 1 course per session. However you may take courses from other university at the same time (at least I don't see anywhere that said you can't), these are not subjected to the 1 course per session limit.
Once you enrolling to CGA they will give you a time limit to finish all the courses. From the info provided you have about 8 transfer credits so they will give you 7 years max to complete all academic requirements. On top of that they also have other requirements to keep yourself in good standing (ie: pass 3 CGA exams in 2 years); so there are times where have to take courses offered by CGA.
Also bear in mind that they don't give transfer credit for final (PACE) level courses. They only give you challenge exam privilege (and the exam is 100% of your final mark). So you will need to leave 1-2 years for your PACE level.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the responses.
For CGA courses taken through other universities distance education program, how many months are we given to complete the course? Is it semestral (6 months) for the most part? I am leaning more towards Ryerson.
From what I have gathered here, Ryerson's distanced ed is pretty good so I may take courses from Ryerson depending on how lenient they will be on disregarding some prerequisites for CGA equivalent courses. Over at Athabasca, the CGA equivalent courses have way too many prerequisites that it's mind-boggling.
I understand the value of these prerequisite courses to someone in undergrad wanting to get into accounting, but I am not willing to take all those prerequisites just so I can take a CGA equivalent course. I am working for one of the big 4 firms, on the advisory side, and would just want to improve on my accounting skills.
