I bought one of these
http://canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=007998&cid=516

The first time around it had a dead remote controller battery. It also ran into other problems
-the enclosure is suppose to act as an external harddrive but also play media files (video, pics, mp3) on TVs with its A/V out. It doesnt do that. It doesnt read any of the files
-it only boots up maybe 1/5 times... and sometimes not at all.

I return it. They give me a store credit so i could exchange it for same one. It was an open box one with a 5% off discount...
I didnt think they would re-sell something thats defective... Because thats pretty low (yes... i gave CC that much credit). I brought it home and it ended up being defective. Even worst then the first one!

Now thats a scam!
They knowingly sell an "open box" item 5% off knowing that its defective. bastards!!!

This was At the Spadina and college location. I have the full names of all the people that helped me (because of the cashier IDs on the receipt).
Should i look into this further? or just leave it be?

Who will you be reporting it to? CC Head office? Because they won't give a rat's @ss about the situation.

Just to be fair, how do you know that they knowingly sell broken stuff in open box? Their locations are so busy that I doubt they test the items before they take a refund on it. The previous buyer could have easily broken it or something and brought it back to Canada Computers, paying the 15% restocking fee. Of course, now you realize they probably earned another 10% in between, lol ;)

You were being cheap by buying open-box.

It was the last Media playing HD enclosure they had... =\

Does Canada Computers resell customer returns? Sure, hence the open box discounts.

But I don't see why they would knowingly resell a defective product, as that only inconveniences and upsets the customer as well as creates additional workload for the store. Remember, its not as if they just sell you the product and refuse warranty/service, they still have to replace it for you.

My guess is, as someone already suggested, they probably didn't test it when it was returned by the previous customer.

Sucks for sure, but your thread title statement is just silly, in my opinion, because that is a lose-lose situation for CC, why would they do it.

I wouldn't buy an open-box item, myself.. you get what you pay for.

I once bought a 9800 Pro at Canada Computers, and when I took it out of the box the heatsink and fan fell off. When I tried to return it, they accused me of breaking it, and refused to take it back or exchange it.

They eventually agreed to allow me to buy a more expensive version of the card, but didn't apply the full price I paid for the old one since its price had gone down.

They opened the box of the new card so that I could verify it was not obviously damaged, and then resealed it.
