I'm just wondering about how many people have CD/DVD inkjet printers. Even though I think a lot of people who own them swear by them, I don't think they've become very popular en mass still.

I'm still on the fence about getting one myself. I don't keep DVDRs very long after burning them... but stuff burned for other people, and eventually burned BD-Rs might be worth it for me to get a printer for.

Anyways, I'm just curious.

Had the epson R200 and now the canon ip4200. The canon is a much better printer overall (especially with some refill kits that are available) and doesn't clog after a period of non-use like all my epson's (3) have. Direct printing is so much better then labels, and I would expect it to catch on with many more people.

I have the Canon ip4300 and it's great.
I use Taiyo Yuden Watershield DVD's and CD's from www.blankmedia.ca in Kitchener. These discs do not smear at all.
They are a little more expensive, but well worth it.
Very nice, shiny white surface. I use these discs for special people and me.
I get high quality label scans from the forum at www.cdcovers.cc. You have to register for free and put in a request for the label you want.

The expense of ink is the greatest drawback with cd/dvd injet printers.
why not use Lightscribe to burn images on dvd? While the Lightscribe discs are around $1.00 each, they would be cheaper if you factor in the inkjet cartridges needed for the inkjet printers.

I use a HP Photosmart D5160 for my DVD/CD labels, I've had no problems with it so far.

Heh... seems that people who own them like them, I should have seen that coming

Seems that some people are still using stick on labels though, that kind of surprises me!

Shops don't seem to be carrying Lightscribe discs - which seems to indicate that there isn't much demand for them. I like the technology but I wish it was faster and had more contrast.

I just label my CDs with a marker.

The idea of a printer that prints on CDs is cool, but honestly I abolished inkjets years ago. I got tired of running through ink cartridges.

Now I only run laser printers. The toner lasts for like 2 years!

Epson R200 - I lost the tray so I ordered another one on eBay a couple of days ago.

As to the ink cost, the non-OEM ink from www.blankmedia.ca is perfect for labelling CDs, though not as good for photos. This saves me piles of money.

I also notice that most people with inkjet disc printers are in Eastern Canada

Maybe us Westerners just don't like CD/DVD Inkjet printing? LOL

I use bulk refill ink from Atlantic Inkjet (http://www.atlanticinkjet.com/default.asp?Nation=CAN) for printing DVD's and photos. Print quality is indistinguishable from oem ink.

I purchased the hobbicolors refill kit on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/Hobbicolors-5-Color-5C-LD-Large-Refill-Ink-Pack-ip4300_W0QQitemZ250128007142QQihZ015QQcategoryZ161 99QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
and am happy with the colour and quality, with in this cheap I'm printing way more then I did with OEM cartridges.

Hi Really dumb question here,

Do the Canon printers (either canon ip4200, or ip4300) have direct CD/DVD printing capability?

I know the Epson's do, it normally listed in their features, but I don't see that in any of the features for the Canons. Most people who have answered this thread, make it sound like the Canon's can do it, but I must have missed in it the features lists. Do you need an add on part? or is it ready to go as in.

Thanks for helping with the research.
