My girlfriends computer is an Emachines T6524 computer. Every time we power it down and then restart it the time reverts to January 2005 or something similiar to that. Does the cmos battery need to be replaced? How do I know what battery it needs and where exactly to get these types of batteries? Do I have to order online or do some local places carry them?

The problem is that its an eMachines ;)
Sounds like a dead CMOS battery to me. Pop it out and bring it to a watch repair place. They will likely have the coin cell.

Don't bother buying a battery.
There are plenty of people with broken motherboards that have good batteries in them. Just grab one from a broken board cuz the batteries are all the same.

Yes, it's the CMOS battery.
Try the local $1 store - they carry these coin batteries (usually CR2025 or CR2032) much cheaper than a watch shop or the local drugstore.
