View Full Version : Crash transitioning into sleep state (Vista)

Occasionally when transitioning into S3 Vista seems to bug check right after spinning down the hard drives, causing the system to remain in a non-recoverable not quite on state, requiring a full reset. The event logs are surprisingly unhelpful in trying to track down the problem (they basically just say that Windows was unable to enter sleep mode).

Does anyone have any ideas? My system has the following configuration:

Vista Ultimate (upgrade, clean install over XP OEM)
Asus P5W DH Deluxe
Core 2 Duo E6600
nVidia 7900 GTO by eVGA
Creative X-Fi Platinum
2x1 GB OCZ Gold 5-5-5-15
Some LiteOn DVD writer (possibly SHW-1635S, honestly don't remember)
320 + 160 GB Seagate SATA HD inside the computer
320 GB Seagate SATA HD connected through Vantec Nexstar 3 by eSATA
240 GB Seagate SATA HD connected through Vantec Nexstar 3 by USB2
OCZ 2 GB USB key, for ReadyBoost
Samsung ML-2510 printer
Logitech MX3200

Windows is running the full Aero Experience. Some other non-standard services running include the iTunes helper, Kaspersky Anti-Virus, and some Saitek thing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you turn off that C1E thing in the bios?

I have not, is this a known issue?

I should have also pointed out in my initial post that I don't overclock anything.

I see. Sleep simply doesn't work on my computer at all and I disabled C1E. I never tried enabling it because it hinders overclocking.

I just checked, and it looks like it's actually disabled. I didn't specifically turn it off, though. Maybe it defaults to off on the P5W.

Thanks for the help, by the way.
