So, should I which to the new windows live hotmail?? Is there any benefit or downfall to the new one vs. old one. I am migrating over to Gmail but still use hotmail as my main account until I get people to switch over completely. I don't want to switch the new one as I imagine I can't switch back . So, I am extra cautious
Any opinions?

what's the big deal? just a different interface...you'd get used to it pretty quickly and maybe make use of the new features.

i switched to the new one and its alright. like said before, its just a user interface. you'll get used to it after 2 days.
if u dont like it, im almost positive there is an option to switch back through ur user preferences.

When switching over, is it seemless? I'm worried because my sister said that all her email got deleted during the switch.

I switched to the new one not too long ago. ^^^ None of the emails got deleted. And yes, you can switch back to the old one if you don't like it.

stick to the old one. Wait till they resolve all known bugs/issues before moving over. New ain't always good so stick to what your use too :cheesygri

+1
The new one has too many gimmicks in it that'll just slow down your connection speed.

I still haven't switched over to Live Mail either, my friend did a few months back and the whole site ran like molasses for him. He had to changed back to Hotmail.

there's nothing special about switching...it basically looks different and thats about it...you don't lose your emails or anything, the only problem with it is that if you're like me and check email and school and work, it's a real pain in the arse because it takes a lot longer to load than the old one

sync your hotmail to your outlook, and u'll enjoy that better than both....loads so much quicker...easier to organize msgs and stuff

I like the new interface. It's a lot like email clients in a sense.

So can I draw the following conclusion?
Hotmail = XP
Live Mail = Vista
I haven't made the switch yet. Don't really know if I plan to any time soon. Don't use my hotmail enough to care anyways.

I think they're talking about the interface and not the program itself.

I like the new interface, but it's so slow to load on slow connections. Like you, I prefer the old interface since it guarantees that I won't have to wait long when I'm out checking my e-mails. I do miss the functionality that AJAX provides :(.

I think MrWizard is talking about what the interface represents. In that terms, I would agree. Live's interface represents and matches Vista's Aero.
