This seems like such a good price that I am thinking on shipping it somewhere in buffalo and then go and pick it up and pay the tax at the border... I almost bought this same TV here in Canada for $1700 a couple of months ago (which was a great price by the way)

The only problem is the coupon... any thoughts?

Whenever I shop at Costco, I haven't had to present a coupon ever.

Everytime, the cashier would just scan it in for me without asking. I dunno how an online coupon would work, but I assume it'd be like an instant rebate.

I was thinking about grabbing this too. Why get it shipped to buffalo when you can drive over there, walk in and buy it? I'm willing to bet a Costco Canada membership is valid in the US.

ya saw this last week, so tempting...

If i had a friend ship it to me from the states, could he just write in Huge letters on the box, Warranty Return to avoid duties. I suppose not ethical, but haha its not fair its no avail in canada.

From what I've read, the 37W3 might not be carried in store at all, hence the purchase online.

There is no Costco in Western New York. The closest one is in ALbany I think. :( Unfortunately. Shipping would be the way to go..Besides its online coupon. You don't need any coupon.

The Westinghouse is 1080p, which works great as a monitor

I've got the 42" Westinghouse and I can vouch for the awesomeness of big computer screens, they really are awesome and worth every penny.

This is an awesome deal, and I've been scheming all week to try to figure out how to get it. I live in NS.
Now, it's not the best TV out there, but for the price, it's incredible.
What we need is someone to drive down and pick up a dozen of them for us. :)

They are two very different TV's. syntax is 1366 x 768 westinghouse is 1920 x 1080 and has been proven to be an excellent pc monitor for gaming etc. The westinghouse is pretty much double the resolution. 1 million pixels vs 2 million.

This is approximately $850 CAD for a 1080p 37" flat panel with a great warranty from Costco. Awesome deal. Some enterprising RFDer should take some Canadian orders and drive down to the States and pick up a truck full of them. You could charge $50 for delivery per TV, cover your costs and have some serious extra dough, and 20 people could get this TV for 900 even.

It's dependent on your source too. If you're just playing dvd's on it it's not going to make much difference.

Using it for blueray, hd-dvd or as a computer monitor, there is a massive difference.

What about duty?

I believe that there would be *NO* duty on this product. Since it is labeled as a monitor it would then fall under the category of a computer peripheral and according to this thread (http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=142354&highlight=ita) by riskit therefore considered a duty free item.

The real problem is people aren't accounting for

1) Shipping costs since this is an online deal only. They would have to be shipped to a US address somewhere.

2) Taxes have to be paid at the store as well.

3) Duty and Canadian taxes have to be paid at the border.

So, finding a location to ship to, getting individual receipts for all of them somehow (10 different orders with the same address? :) sneaking 10-15 37" tv's over the border without paying duty. THEN distributing them all to people, arranging meetings etc and dealing with people backing out. Plus 8-12 37" tv's are not going to fit in an SUV even so you'll probably need a Uhaul or something. It's a nice idea but the reality is it's a much bigger operation than you think.

Having said that, If someone else is willing to do it for an extra $50, please put my order in :)

SkeptiKal12

I'd be in on this as well.

There is a UPS Receiving centre on Packard Rd just outside the Lewston bridge Niagara Falls. I've shipped a lot of stuff there for pickup without problems.

Costco estimates their shipping at 2-3 weeks I believe, which is a drawback.

I'll pay the duty and taxes + extra for someone to do this. I'd even go grab it myself but don't have the money to put up front for 10 TVs.

All of you are joking if you think anybody is going to cross the border without paying a cent of sales tax on multiple monitors.

By my rough estimate, the final price after shipping and then crossing the border would be at least 1,000 CAD, meaning no sane person would do it for $900. Offer 1100 and someone MIGHT consider it.

$800 USD + $50 USD shipping = ~ $900 CAD

PST+GST on top (BC rates) = ~1020 CAD

This does not include: Washington state sales tax for purchases shipped to the state of Washington, gas to get down there, tip for the trouble

As far as I know, Best Buy Canada does not sell this model. The American Costco is selling the LVM-37W3 model. Best Buy Canada only carries the LVM-37W1 model. It is here (http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0926INGFS10077376&catid=23244).

The main difference is that the LVM-37W1 model does not have an HDMI port. The LVM-37W3 does. So that's why no one wants the one carried by Best Buy Canada, which they are selling now for about $1100.

For people in Vancouver, get it shipped to Point Roberts, which is like 20 minutes away. There are handlers that can hold packages for you for a small fee, like $4 or so.

Some US deals are very relevant - it's why RFD added the US flag as an icon in the first place. In this case, Costco Canada accepts US items for return, so it's quite convenient.

I bought the version they sell in canada (no hdmi, just DVI) at xmas 2006. I paid 850$ + tax at bestbuy.

The warranty on these tv's in canada is a nightmare. I had the "cricket" noises on my tv that many many others have had with this tv so bestbuy arranged a tv repair company to look at it. After over 2 months of waiting for that company to hear an answer from the westinghouse company in order for them to order parts, the bestbuy clause kicked in and I had the tv replaced.

Still with this same tv, there is "crickets" chirping from the backlight still especially the first 10 mins the tv warms up.

Overall the model I have wasn't worth the hastle, but I've heard better things about the 42" model, and perhaps the model at US Costco that this thread is talking about.
