Red hot on the wheel + Forza 2!?!?!

Edit: Nevermind. It's not that great. TigerDirect has the wheel at 79.99. If you don't have Forza 2, it's not a bad deal, if you want a cheap wheel to go with it.

I'd consider the wheel and Forza 2 combo pretty hot for the casual racing gamer. In case anyone wanted to know, the wheel does not work on the PC.

First question - how is Forza2 and steering wheel/pedals a BUSINESS deal?

Second question - how well can this combination work in bed (since our XBox is in the bedroom)? Sure, I could have my wife sit up and then use some velcro and affix the pedals to her back, but the steering wheel setup has me stumped.

For any sort of racing wheel set up, you need at least a table to mount the wheel. Although most wheels will have an attachment that allows you to play on your lap, it really does not work too well in that you might as well use a controller...

But this is really a good deal no matter what. You can trade your Forza 2 copy to EB if you already have the game and you are still better off.

According to the other thread, the discharge rate is pretty bad for these Energerizer 2500mAh batteries. Quite a few of them (if not all) are no longer Sanyo-made (MIJ) anymore.

I would stick with the new low-discharge generation (ie. Sanyo Eneloop, Panasonic Infinium or now Sony Cycle Energy) ....

Here's a review of this wheel:

http://www.simhq.com/_technology2/technology_092a.html

In a nutshell, the reviewer says it isn't quite up to snuff with PC-wheels, but he still recommends it. As a previous poster mentioned, if you don't already have Forza2, this looks like a good deal to me.

I took a look at the wheel on the Logitech site:

http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/gaming/xbox_360/devices/299&cl=us,en

Where are the paddle shifters? It looks like RB and LB are buttons on the front side of the wheel instead of the paddle shifters behind the wheel?

However,

Enjoy the ultimate racing experience with realistic pedals, and wheel-mounted F-1 style paddle shifters at your fingertips.

I must be blind.

I can vouch for that.
I charged those batteries to use in my camera. After a day or 2, I put them in my camera and it said I need new batteries because there were not enough juice.

If you get them make sure to use them right away after the charge or you will just be wasting electricity for charging them.

I thought this is a good deal but after some research, I decided not to go for it...

Here's a review of the DriveFX VS the Microsoft official wireless wheel from Forza 2 forum where people actually used it for the game:

http://forums.forzamotorsport.net/forums/thread/125087.aspx

To summarize, I would not buy this wheel because:

1. The degree of rotation is smaller than the MS wheel
2. It does not have true force feedback (simulated)
3. It is not wireless

If you are a casual racing gamer and want a wheel for fun, then go for it. But if you want to get the best out of Forza 2, get the Microsoft wheel.

what is the degree of rotation? normally..for racing..you dont want that high of a degree of rotation

I'm getting it, 89.99 = 30 bucks for the wheel and i was planning on getting the game anyway

By pedals u mean gas and brake right? They're included on the ms 360 wheel, just not shown on the picture.

Degree of rotation is 270 lock to lock on the ms wheel, that's not alot. How much less is the drive fx?

DriveFX is 180 degrees, 270 is a little better. I am picky in this regards because I am used to the 900 degree rotation of the Driving Force Pro...Unfortunately the Driving Force Pro is not compatible with X360, otherwise I wouldn't have to be looking for a wheel. Still contemplating...

If you're looking for a wheel for your 360, get the official one.

Like anything, it'll just take getting use to. This one might have a slightly larger learning curve dep. on your racing skills.

Aside: Actually, I'm planning on returning mine because it acts similar to this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9B3LKlieAE

It's a widespread issue where the wheel is not centered. Apparently there are wheel owners that do not have this issue.

my only beef with the ms wheel is that if you want forza, and im sure most of us 360 players do (over pgr3 anyway), we need to shell out 99.99 + 59.99 +tax to get forza and a wheel whereas we can get it for 89.99 now and save 69.99. subtract 29.99 for the price of pgr and you're looking at 40 bucks more for the wheel and a game you probably wont play if you have forza

Logitech doesn't make bad products...is the ms wheel really worth an extra 69.99? another thing to consider is if the logitech can be used in the future for other games?

I'm at the last step before checkout for the logitech...but i guess i wnated to read this thread before doing anything

also, no coupons or anythign with this deal right?

Forza 2 and PGR3 were made based around the Microsoft Wheel. IMO, it would be the most accurate wheel to deliver the FFB (forcefeed back), rumble, and precision in these games. If you're the kind of person who wants perfection in the products which you own, you should get the official wheel.

When Logitech starts using technology like:
Axial Feedback Technology: Get behind the wheel and let the authentic road feel guide your way.
... you know that it might be over/under simulated forcefeed back, not true to what the developers of the games intended.

However, if you do decide to get the Logitech wheel, buy it and don't look back. The worse thing is regretting a purchase and having to deal with 15% restocking fees or new paper weight.

Like I said, if you are a casual racing gamer, the Logitech may be good enough for your purpose. But if you really want the best racing wheel for the X360, you want to get the MS wheel. But on the other hand, the MS wheel is not without its defects...

Will it be supported in the future for other games? Most likely yes, I can't imagine that a wheel will fail to function in a future game where developers already know of its existence when they make the game.

Is this worth an extra 69.99? This really is a question that you can only answer.

Keep in mind that you'll need to install the drivers for the wheel which is ON the PGR3 disk. (Maybe borrow a friends if you don't wanna crack the seal).

In addition to that, PGR3 does not come with a case - rather, it comes in a cheap paper sleeve. (Forgot if it even comes with the manual, didn't bother looking)

Lastly, what's the TIV for PGR3 anyway? I know it's part of MS "Plat. Hits" collection and sells new for $30. Doubt you'll get much if you sell it.

This is an good price for the game and wheel but 270 doesn't cut it for a racing simulator of this caliber. Shame on you Logitech.

I paid less than $10 for PGR3 during Compusmart's post Christmas sales so I would concur that the street price for a cased PGR3 wouldn't be much.

If you can find someone who is ordering the PC work with them on ordering the wheel, too.

It's a mistake from dell, when you click product detail or when you go over the option, you can see the image of the Kensington Universal FM Transmitter - Digital player FM transmitter / charger for car. It's clear that they'll send the FM transmitter.

Good observation. Customized the advertised computer, clicked on tab "3 Add Accessories" and the deals WERE there. $49 for the wheel, reg. sale price for the other deals. Seems to be gone now, all I get is some Kingston and Kensington stuff.

Bought the Wheel/Forza 2 combo... Can't fault the price really. I've already got the game, so I'll take Forza to EB or Zellers  and the wheel will effectively cost about $20 bucks.

never purchased from dell before...do i get the air miles after i pay and they send me an email or will it be at the end of checkout?

first make sure you sign up for an Airmiles and Dell account on each of their websites.

http://www.airmilesshops.ca/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=airmilesshops/StoreSplash&RetailerID=1054564752139&RefererPage=RNC0_Home_RetailerLogo_1054564752139

Log in here and then hit Go Shopping button and Airmiles and Dell will do the rest.

I saw that the Kensington image was there but in the description to the right (where it lists the various components) it clearly shows the Forza/wheel package when I added it.

I guess there is risk there (unless Dell honours their error).

Its an awesome camera... Takes 4AA's so its a bit big, but if you can overlook that PQ is excellent.
4x Opt zoom, great battery life and fast to recharge flash (due to 4 AA's), swivel screen, and a ton of manual features. Also has a very good movie mode.

I bought mine in St. Martain on the Dutch side a few years ago. They deal in USD (with the Looney being so high right now it's a good time ), plus there's no sales tax, and you can talk the guy in the store down ( I sat there dealing with the guy for about a hour and talked him down to a great price).

Anyone care to guess what the benefit of charging through the USB is? If there's a USB, there's bound to be a A/C as well.

So you can charge with usb if you don't have access to AC, or if it's not feasible.

Like you're in school, sitting next to a PC and there are no readily available plugs anywhere or they are all used up, you can plug your charger into any usb port whether on your laptop or desktop pc and charge away.

Or if you have a bad back and you don't want to bend over to reach a plug ... whatever.

The thing is that any laptop or desktop nowadays have multiple usb ports that are readily accessible.

You are probably limited to 500mAh as per usb restrictions but that's not a big deal mostly.

AllWheelDrift

You are probably limited to 500mAh as per usb restrictions but that's not a big deal mostly.
The 500mA limit means it will take 5+hours to charge a single 2500mAh AA or 10+ hours for 2 2500mAh AAs. so I'm not sure why that's not a big deal. How useful is the fact that it's portable enought that you can plug it in to a PC at school or whatever if it's going to take that long to charge?

I know what you're saying ... and I agree with you.

However, you have to change your way of thinking to accept this product for what it is: a niche product.

A usb charger isn't for everyone ... that's why the market is dominated by regular NiMh wall plug chargers with higher charge rates, extra features etc.

Because this is a niche product you have to stop comparing it to a regular charger - because you end up comparing the negative and not for what the usb functionality can offer the consumer.

Check the product description:

Energizer introduces the Energizer DUO, a charger that meets the needs of the wired and wireless. The DUO charges two AA or AAA rechargeable batteries (NiMH) in as little as two hours for AAA's and as little as five hours for AA's via a computer's USB port or a standard wall outlet, giving users the flexibility to choose how they want to recharge their NiMH batteries for power hungry devices. In addition, the Energizer DUO has a customizable computer interface that monitors charging progress on your computer screen.

See the bolded stuff. Not only usb but wall plug. Check the form factor, very small which appeals to people on the go. 2 batteries and not the usual 4. Cheaper price ... etc ...

Actually, it's a DUO model of which you can also charge your batteries directly by plugging the "included wall adapter" into an AC outlet.

If i return something else to FutureShop, they will probably ban me from there forever.

In the month of May:

100% full refund on:

HP Laptop $1200
Portable DVD player
5.8GHz Panasonic dual headset home phone
2x 2GB CompactFlash Card
D40x kit.

And these items were exchanged:

Ipod Video to Ipod Nano
Canon G7 to Canon A640

i kid you not, i am afraid to go to that place anymore. I am not a scammer/user of items and then returning it...it just happened that in month of May, my budget went up and down. For example, i bought HP laptop, then returned it due to needed a digital camera more. Then bought Panasonic homephone, returned it due to not needed so much power in 2 bedroom apartment. Then bought D40x kit with 2 sticks of 2GB memory card, returned it due to the fact that Nikon D40x sucks big balls. It's failure. Returned it.
Then bought Canon G7, used it for a week. then friend asked me to buy Ipod video for him, i did. when he found out that he would rather have nano, i exchanged it. and Today, changed Canon G7 for A640. They probably have some serious documentation regarding me

Yeah totally worth it.
i am so happy that i bought it over G7.
A640's zoom is not big, only 4x, therefore image stabilization isnt becoming a major issue at such low zoom levels.
The screen on A640 is much worse though than G7.
G7 is like crystal crisp, A640 LCD on the other hand looks like from $200 camera.
Image quality is absolutely same, they use same sensors.

Deals aside, I would suggest you buy the camera amount with your visa and not a portion as you basically screw yourself out of a free extended warranty from your credit card company. Only the entire amount doubles your warranty for free so refund it , clear up enough room to buy the camera with one purchase.

Not to sound like a dick, but I will probably sound like one anyways....

If your credit card is maxed out, do you really need to be buying cameras and ipods, etc.

It's one thing to try and save money and all by buying deals when they come around, but if you buy stuff just to save money and then end up paying interest on it, you are no further ahead and you still have a maxed out card.

Again, none of my business, you and others do what you think you should do, but sorry I just had to say what I (and I am sure some others) are thinking.

Good luck either way.

My credit card is maxed at the moment.

I had some debt on my Visa, and had $500 remaining.

it's always a good idea to have more than 1 CC avail. :)

EDIT: or like others said, ask for an increased LOC

Well my CC had $1000 limit, and $500 of it was used up. Leaving $500 free.
I figured there is really no harm in getting a camera for $500.
Basically I had 2 options.

1) Close up the $500 debt and dont buy camera
2) Buy the camera (with $500 that i had), and keep $500 debt open.
Whenever its time to make decisions regarding debt vs. purchase, I always think that life is too short to say no to some things.
I will close that $500 debt sooner or later, but when you want to capture your life's moment, and dont have the camera because you decided to pay the debt, then what do i live for?
I know i may sound like crazy CC shopper, but I am not. $500 isnt that much to have in debt to consantly worry about paying it off. I will pay it sooner or later

If you can handle your budget and don't carry a balance on your CC and make frequent purchases of hundreds of dollars, then why not just get your limit increased? Shouldn't be a problem unless you have bad credit.

Just got off the phone with them and they said it would be at least 5 more days. Grrr. The order status page is useless, it's never correct.

I just got my Energizer DUO charger. It came with 2 AAA, not AA as they advertized...time to give them a call.
