It means you'll only have to plug in a regular power cord and not have a dangling power brick (much like laptops). Older generation lcd's used a power brick since they couldn't/didn't want to integrate it into the back of the lcd panel.
What does "Built-in power supply" mean?

After you have received the item, go to a stooples store, and ask nicely for a change method of payment. Almost all cases, they will honour the online price you got the item for - meaning, the coupon will still apply. Done this a couple of times, and some friends have done it too - went off without a hitch.

This is a ymmv point.
Same with the acceptance of online coupon codes. Some will accept, others won't. I've done SEVERAL of these and it's luck of the draw. The ones that refused, WOULD NOT accept it come hell or high water., even with the MOD brought into the picture. I've learned that when presented with such staff, I just call it quits, and move to another Staples who all too often, will be a difference of LIGHT AND DAY, and process the full return, with pm, WITH online coupon without a hesitation or blink of an eye.

Already an owner of a Dell 2405, I bought this monitor from MJM post 2 weeks ago.
What I dont like about this monitor:
sit very very low on your desk and very bad vertical view angle.
Show up Acer logo at start up.
If you dont mind the few things i mentionned, i think it's the best price/size/quality on the market right now!
ben_95sl1
Jun 6th, 2007, 04:32 PM
I believe the recent shipments of this monitor should be HDCP compatible; atleast that's what I've found with some net research. Even though no mention of it on the acer website that I can see; I've seen a number of websites selling this model with specs that say it does support HDCP. So, maybe?
Anyway, thanks for the post, this is the same screen I've been using at work, and at $250, it's hard to complain; so I ordered one for home. $30 cheaper then the dell, plus I can just return it to staples store if I'm not happy.

Just bring receipt, unless the CSR can't think of any other reason to deny you the change of payment.
At one point they did deny online coupon use for gift card change of payments at a few stores, though i think last time I was able to do so without a problem. That is why it's better to buy in store if you don't want to wait for shipping or take the risk of not being able to use up your gift cards.

well they have to ... b/c it's w/i their agreement to deliver "next biz day" (NBD) as stated.
i recall back when stooples online launched, they actually got into a lawsuit b/c customers weren't getting their deliveries "NBD" as claimed on their website...

This from Staples' website:
Features:
Response Time: 5ms
Contrast Ratio: 700:1
Brightness: 300cd/m2
Resolution: 1680 x 1050
Viewing Angle: 170
Built-in power supply
Analog RGB and DVI Digital Input
I called the customer support and they said from their own description, it should have RGB. They've offered to exchange it but I think they got the description wrong.
My order says AL2216WB but on the box and monitor itself, it has AL2216W on it. I wonder if there's a WB model...

Occasionally they may use the term Analog RGB to describe a VGA port. (which is analog) and is missleading.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_connector
In a true sense Analog RGB would be this.

checkout Acer's own website. the model is actually WBD (i believe W = WS, B = Blk, D = DVI)
i'm quite +ve stooples' website has the model # incorrectly displayed...

I got mine (it is a 2216w) and I love it. The only complaint I have is that if I reduce the brightness under 97 I can hear a buzzing sound. Is it true that Acer, Samsung and ViewSonic all use the same panels for their 22" monitors? I read some comments about bleading, but I don't know how to measure it. Any advice? I heard that the difference is in the stand and extras. If you don't need a stand with swivel or portrait support, and are on a budget, I highly recommend this monitor.

The problem is that they are charging the wrong amount for the alberta recycling fee. It should be $12 but they are charging $25. I talked to someone at the 1800 number and she is supposed to be adjusting mine to the correct price. The only thing is that I do not like the fact that they can't just correct the price on the website cause then you have to deal with them and with the coupons who knows what might happen. Anyways that's the reason for the higher price. I had an interesting thought for albertans perhaps a person could put in a grand prarie address and have it shipped to there regular address since grand prarie doesn't pay the recycling fee.

even w/ the really good $30off150 coupons, best you can do is 3 x $30off150 coupons (3 of these avail. at the same time are extremely rare)
exception would be if you PMed + use generic coupons and/or dividends 16-digit coupons.... ;)

I thought they were the same panels, hence the cheapness of both of them? (I thought virtually all of the 22" were the same 6 bit TN) Are you referring to the dell ultrasharp series? because the e in e228 stands for economy. The dell, may in fact be slightly better, but I highly doubt it's better like the ultrasharps are.

Please allow me to whine about my bad experience :( .
I got the 22" acer online with coupone.
OK, plan was to go instore to do a exchange payment method.
First went to Heartland Staples (Mississauga), dude told me it can be done.. then said NO when he saw i used a coupon, and said there is no way to do it since they don't kwno which coupon i used. Fine, cause that i know that staples manager is a B**** anyway =D. Won't even merge my GC for me anymore, the previous manager actually did it for me. ok.. back to topic. But he said I can do i t online and to exchange payment method. I'm like, ok thnx.
To next staples i go, Grand Park Staples (Mississauga), the manager and the employee said, sure i can do it for you... but i'd have to refund ur items first, i'm like, sure as long as you can do it for me.... ok after around 15 minutes of refund process, he scan the item in again, telling me i have to pay at FULL price, i'm like WTH... he said, he can only use the coupon once. I'm like.... then why didn't he tell me this earlier, he said i didn't ask. I was like, then what would be the point of me doing all this then, so i can pay MORE for my item???... The manager said, "I don't know, but i can't do it for you, unless you got another coupon". I thought about it, was depress, and left >:( ... I wanted my 22" monitor, now no more :(... maybe wait for next deal.
So my conclusion is, Grand Park staples is also g**.

If you had ordered from Dell last week, the estimated ship date (I confirmed this with a Dell CSR) was July 25. :!:
well, Dell seems to always exaggerate a bit on the expected ship dates... (most likely just cover their own @$$e$ in case it doesn't arrive on time)

I just now saw a new post in RFD (http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=452289)
Could some one explain, which one of these is good - acer, lg, dell or samsung?

Register with another user/email and you can use the coupon again.
Step 1: Order without the coupon;
Step 2: Wait 24-48 hours
Step 3: Call Staples and have them credit the coupon to you card;
Step 4: Go to the store with your invoice for the higher amount and a payment exchange
Step 5: Tell the Manager to have a good one.

I went all the way to the local FS..LG seems to be much better than acer and samsung with its high contrast ratio and metal finish.

For those interested, it appears that the Samsung 225BW uses a Chi Mei TN panel (same as ACER 2216).

Well, I had the Acer I returned because I found sitting too low on my desk.
I went to get the samsung yesterday. so far, I found the samsung image quality worst than the acer. Color isnt as uniform as the acer.
but once again, I may just be lucky with the acer and unlucky with the samsung.

The samsung monitors look terrible out of the box and need a lot of fine tuning to get them setup just right.

you can stack coupons, but the subtotal must meet the min. purchase req'mts for all the coupons combined, and that's before taxes and any PMs

This is YMMV, I just have had HORRIBLE experience with Staples employee, others have claimed to be successful.
Good luck to you though, I will surely do as MJM suggested when this deal appear again. Screw it this time, gonna to save up for the Dell m1330 :D

I found out a weird problem.
I am using dvi output from my ATI 9600.
If I turn off the monitor, then turn it on again, then it shows "no signal" dialog box with black screen. But I disconnect the cable then connect again, then it is fine. The other way to get back display from the monitor is to set to one display from my other LCD then set to two display again.
The dvi output from my ATI 9600 works with my Samsung 17'' with a converter and I never got such problem.
Any help please?

My video card ATI 9600's dvi output is hooked to this LCD.
Scenario 1
1. Once the dvi cable and power cable are hooked up.
2. Turn it on
3. It shows no signal
4. I have to unplug and plug the dvd cable to have the display on.
Scenario 2:
1. Say the monitor now has display, turn it off and on again. The monitor shows no signal
2. I have to unplug and plug the dvi cable again to get the display back.
Scenario 3:
1. I hook up both dvi and d-sub cables to my dual display card
2. Once I swith to the analog, the OSD menu doesn't work to switch to d-sub cables any more. I think the LCD may be too "smart" to see the digital is not available.
3. Unplug the d-sub cable now. The digial display now come back. And turning off and on doesn't cause a problem in scenrio 2. However, I turn off LCD power and re-plug dvi cable again. The scenario 2 happens again.
In short, to make dvi to have display. I have to re-plug the dvi cable when this LCD's power is turned on.

I'm using ATI 9800 Pro and no problem turning on and off. There is a little delay but display works fine. Probably your card is not sync with the monitor after power off and on try VGA connection.

Any chance you have another monitor to test it with. If not... maybe consider going to FS/Staples/BB and buy a monitor with DVI (to return later). Test it to see if the problem is the monitor or the video card. If its the monitor, just exchange it at staples.

have you tried another DVI cable? it's possible the cable itself is faulty I suppose.

I recently bought the Acer 22" LCD monitor. For the first time, I connected it to my Dell inspiron 9400 via DVI cable and it worked by pressing FN F8. Since shutting down, my laptop can no longer detect the monitor at all. Any ideas how to fix this? My inspiron has the ATI mobility x1400 video card.
Things already tried:
1) got another DVI cable, turning laptop/monitor on/off, unpluging/repluging in all cables
2) made sure LCD works with another computer (desktop)
3) had Dell Support install latest ATI drivers
Unfortunately, the ATI site says to contact the hardware provider for update (i.e. Dell) but their support staff hasn't been able to resolve the issue. Anybody know how I can fix this?!?!?
Thanks

Damn it. I almost got this monitor for $195 +tax...
NCIX has it for $250 as a surprise special this week. I called Staples and the guy agreed to the price match (and ignored the shipping difference or coupons), and was calculating 110% of the ~$50 difference, when the line disconnected! I called again, but the new CSR checked and noted that NCIX charges $30 for next day shipping, and killed any point in the PM.
I wish I had remembered to get the first CSR's name and extension.

Downloading the latest driver doesn't help. Another big problem comes up - graphics slow like hell. I backed off to the 7.4 version driver. I have downloaded a tool so I can use hotkey(NIRCMD) to make the monitor standy which simulates the unplugging of dvi cable. So just press hot key when there is no signal, then move your mouse.

Fixed the problem, upgrade to MS .NET 2.0 uninstall all ATI drivers, install newest, ones, reboot, reboot again, then it should be fine.
But i'm still gonna return, pretty crappy quailty monitor, i have 3 dead pixels :(
Just gonna wait till back to school, hopefully better monitors will be out.

I went to staples at Winston churchill/Dundas and applied Giftcards. At the beginning, the cashier was attempting to refund $284 and then charge me $300+tax. Therefore, I asked her to pause and she told me Online coupon does not work in-store since it's a one-time only coupon.
At that moment, I was glad that I asked her to stop before she went on and click the "confirm" button. Otherwise I would be stuck with stack of GC and refund the lcd. Then the 1st cashier discuss with the 2nd cashier after I told her I had successfully applied online coupon and GC at another location. At the end, the 2nd cashier told her to give me the discounted price.
I want to Thank Kev84 who made me aware of the "refund/repurchase w/o coupon problem". Otherwise, I won't have a chance to use those GC.

Is there another staples around you, try again at another store.
Or try what i did, my poor experience trying to exchange payment method.
Wanted to exchange payment, they credited my credit card, and THEN told me i have to pay full price for the monitor as i can't use the coupon anymore. I was like WTF, and told them i did'n't it anymore.
Well that's how i got rid of mine, i was piss, cause i wanted the monitor too ><.

hm... that's the 1st time i've heard of stores not accepting online-order returns...
i think somewhere online it says the stores should allow the refunds if you choose not to get stooples.ca to come to your house to p/u the returned item(s)....
