Try Korry's on the Danforth and see what they come up with. No harm in going in for a visit - the only thing you have to lose is time and gas. They might care a little more about you than Harry Rosen or Holt's and you might come outta there looking better.

Pretty sure a complete (business) suit at either store starts at maybe $800. Mid range would be somewhere between that and a bespoke suit, I guess

Did you notice what you are asking?
What is the difference in quality b/w Rosen and Renfrew? What could the possible difference in quality be if you are comparing 2 Hugo Boss suits?
It boils down to personal perception. Shop around at both places and see what you can find. No one can tell you specifically that one is better than the other.
Good suilts will run you close to a grand. I bought my Hugo Boss for 600+taxes on sale at Rosen once ...

if you hold out, both places will be on summer sale soon. You may be able to save some money that way.
Both stores will carry great suits, just depends on what kind of suit you want. Holts tends to be more fashion foward, while Harrys is more classic. Although in terms of basic suiting, both will carry alot of the same products. You'll just fine more selection in terms of fashion foward suiting at holts, and you'll find more classic suiting at Harrys.

Unless you are buying their house brand, no difference b/t armani suits between the 2 stores.
As I recall, Harry Rosen does free alteration on sale item at their reg store (not outlet), correct if i am wrong, because i haven't bought from them for years.
And Holt if it is a sales item you will have to pay for alteration.
Good luck, at both store, for a brand name suit, you will likely paying >1k for it. except the outlet.

couldnt tell you which is better of the two, but holt renfrew is having a up to 40% sale right now. when i stopped by the bloor location they had a bunch of price reductions on suits, blazers, ties, dress shirts, shoes etc.

Harry Rosen has a sale going on right now (private sale until 10th, then public advertising starting monday 11th)
I bought a Hugo boss suit, shirt, tie, shoes - the works today.
Saved about $500 on the whole thing.
No, I don't work there... I work at Starbucks :p
The sales I deal with is Nezar at Eaton Center.
The dude remembered my name, who I was with in store 6 months ago and school etc. IMPRESSIVE!
He is very good and if you are going to that store, ask for him!
He'll spend hours with you and he's very accurate at judging your styles and sizes.
If you'd like to book an appointment with him - nsaad at harryrosen dot com
Other sales doesn't look as friendly but this guy will help you even when you look like a poor man :)

May I suggest using the money and getting fully custom tailored suit? Custom fits will look much better than off the rack.

I don't think it matters, alot of off-the shelf suits are imported from thailand, china and your usually paying for the brandname not the quality.
My brother inlaw imports ski jackets from china for 30-50dollars, and they usually sell them for over $200.00-400.00 at the various ski shops.

But at Harry when the suit says "Made in Italy", it's not coming from China. The two stores carry mostly the same thing, so it doesn't make that big a difference.

Do you know of any places in the Mississauga area that do custom-tailored suits?

yeah, i'd like to know the answer to that question as well!
i need a suit by the 29th! my budget is ~$1500 cdn. i live in the greater toronto area. i'm 6'1" and have a fit, athletic build. would love a custom suit.
if that's not an option, what are the stores i should visit?
i have no idea what i'm doing. i only own one suit, and bought from tip top years ago when i wasn't as fit. please help! lol
thanks!

There's no way you can get a custom tailored suit in time for the 29th. You've got a lot a few options to choose from, given your budget. I'd say given the timeline, just check out your local Holt's or Harry's shop. You'll probably still need to get the pant legs and jacket sleeves altered to length, and if you'd like to use the in-store services provided, you need to give them a few days, at the very minimum.
Oh yeah, and please budget for shoes. I don't know how many times I've seen people sport a nice suit only to spoil the look with crappy shoes.

$1500 budget is little low for those top brands like Armani, Dolce&Gabbana, Canali, etc., cuz they usually mark their retail price around 1600~2000 only for the Suit, not include the pants.
Since u said u got a great body, and I guess ur size is around 40~42, the best suggestion I can give is go to check HarryRosen Outlet at Missisauga and Holt Renfrew Last Call. These two places should have a lot of choices for your size, and usually you can find a great deal at there, and it should under your budget, maybe you can save some money to get a pair of nice shoes.

Look for:
Canali
Cornelani
Brioni
Emerendilgo Zegna
Avoid:
Hugo Boss
Armani
Z Zegna
D&G/Dolce & Gabbana
Generally, the former are more traditional suitmakers who put quality > fashion. The later are fashion names who put fashion first before quality. Not to say there aren't exceptions to each brand, though.

Thanks!, do you know if they do alterations at these stores?
I think I'll look for something just off "top brand" status (any suggestions), whatever that is. I have more to spend, but don't know if it's worth it for a suit that ill only wear a few times a year. I'll get a better suit eventually once my payscale gets up, lol..
About shoes, I'm a shoe hound so I have another budget for that already... :)

I think Harry Rosen outlet at Missisauga has alteration services, I don't remeber Holt last call has alterations. it doesn't cost u anything to check these places out before ur purchase, maybe u can find a good deal and save some money for something else, and I do believe these top brands suit has much better fit and quality than the lower brands. So if u r not gonna get a custom suit, u better choose from these top brands.

I recommend Tom's Place downtown toronto....I bought two suits from there and they fit great :) The whole store is FULL of suits! And if you are good at bargaining you can get an awesome deal. They have cheaper suits on the lower floor and more expensive brand names on the second floor. However, I find the suits on the lower floor are pretty damn good (better than tip top, moores, etc).

Well, I went to the Harry Rosen outlet
They seem to have some really good deals there...
I held two suits: a striped Corneliani 42T, and a black suit that starts with the letter B (the brand escapes my mind, I think it might be an in-house one, dunno)
Initially the salesmen was trying to pitch me Hugo Boss...what's the deal with that?
Gonna check out Holt's Renfrew Last Call for their deals this weekend...

2 Places I would recommend
1. Hugo Boss Outlet...its in Windsor, Ontario which is good drive but worth it...last trip I went with a bunch of guys and we all bought a suit (some bought 2)
2. Toms Place
- I cannot believe nobody mentioned this place...Toms Place has better deals than Harry Rosen or even Holts...Toms Place is in Kensington Market and I"m sure there is a link to their website online someplace

You clearly have no clue what you are talking about. You think throwing around a few designer labels and words like "fit" and "quality" will impress others and make you sound knowledgeable. From what I've seen, you have no grasp on the notion of "fit". Don't misinform anyone if you don't know what you're talking about.

well, i guess it's u always sounds knowlegable, and really like to annoy people by ur fashion attitude. i don't want to start another war with u at this thread as in the other.
I list the brands like Dior Homme, Dsquared, Armani. do u have questions about the fit of these brands on slim body???? and I do own some blazers from these brands and they really fit me good, and I like their quality, if u are not agree, have u ever tried or bought from these brands?
all I am telling at here are all truth, I'm sharing my experience. As ur attitude, all the people should not post anything if they are not really into fashion world? I guess this is just a fashion forum, everybody can post anything about the fashion world from his own experience.

Went to Tom's place. Great suggestion.
I really enjoyed the store!
Had a great salesman, think his name was Denis, who did my measurements first and then suggested suits based on the fit....said the less alterations, the better...
Even when I looked at a more expensive suit which required more adjustments based on my measurements, he still pointed me back to the best fit for me, which suggests good salesmanship on his part.
So got 2 beautifully fitted Strellson's for under a 1k, and a bunch of ties and shirts for reasonable prices.
Thanks!

You're absolutely right. I don't like it when people try to top me. However, I have respect for people who do it because they do it with style. Unfortunately, the only thing you are showing off is your wealth. You know nothing about fit or the clothes behind the labels. That's when I have a problem with you.
Ps. Yes I do own pieces from Armani and Dior. Thanks for asking. I however do not own anything from Dsquared. You might think Dsquared is great because they can charge 2 bills for a tee, but Dsquared's mens line is nothing more than a more expensive version of Abercrombie.
Good day.
