View Full Version : Do my next door neighbours play a factor on the value of my house?

I recently purchased a new home that is still being built. One of my next door neighbour's recently moved out and the new home owners moved in yesterday.
I'm wondering if my next door neighbours would play any factor in determining the value of my house.
I'm asking is because I have a gut feeling that the value of my house has gone down since these people have moved in.

Absolutely! If your new neighbors are total jackasses that won't maintain the house or landscape it will definitely lower your property value. It will be hard to even get people through the door to view the inside of your house if the outside of theirs is a mess. Most people drive through the surrounding neighborhood before going for an actual viewing of a potential property...

If worst comes to worst, you may find this as a possible solution: http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=448996

what makes you gut feel that??Well the first thought that popped into my head when I saw them moving it was "oh no".
I can't really say as it wouldn't be politically correct.

I'm so glad my neighbors are old and Italian. Their lawn is pristine. Can't ask for anything else.

Me too, they used to give us tomatoes and pasta sauce every year. Very nice people. Sometimes even let us use his driveway when we have lots of guests coming over.

Then you'll have to problem that I have, a feeling of guilt because my yard isn't as immaculate as the neighbour's. My neighbour's law looks so pristine, it doesn't look like there is a blade of grass out of place. Just can't keep up.

Given the registration date, he might of been a previously banned member...

I would assume a dupe account, not many new users make 8 posts in one day, even if they were long time lurkers.
Edit: beat to it.

LOL, joined and banned on the same day. Probably a previous banned poster creating another account.

Yes they absolutely do. Those who voted no are delusional. Try having people over for open house when both of your next door neighbours are black. Then try the same thing with white neighbours. Take a lucky guess on which neighbours would make the value lower. It's reality like it or not.

In some neighbourhoods, that wouldn't make a difference. In other neighbourhoods, having black neighbours would significantly lower your property value. Sad but true.
