Yesterday at around 5 - 6pm, a grade 12 Jarvis C.I student jumped out of his building. There was a meeting addressed by the principles and teachers whom gathered all of his classmates to further investigate the reason for his suicide.
Some students reported that he did not have much close friends and that he was unhappy with his grades. others reported that his father died when he was young and his mother and brother recently left him because of his school grades.
Jarvis C.I was hit hard today.. Everyone was completely shocked by what happened.
Overall, these were just some reported reasons that may have influenced him into doing so. There is no solid evidence to why he commited suicide. This was the path he decided to take and may he rest in peace.
* there is no news coverage.

yeah, its pretty freaky. low grades shouldn't be something to suicide about, they are so many alternatives to having such a great life. His mother shouldn't have left him.

His mother left him because of bad grades???
WTF is wrong with Chinese parents that cause them to be so judgemental of their kids? This idiot mother abandons her son due to bad grades, another chinese family demands their son leaves his GF because she's short, etc, etc, etc. I could probably go on for an hour just from cases I've read here on RFD.

Let's not jump to conclusions based on hearsay. Usually people have more than just failing grades to force them to commit suicide (although there have been cases of such). I would like to hear more details from a reliable source before making any judgment on the kid or his mother/brother. Got link?

as i said, these were the assumptions that were made by his fellow classmates today at a meeting. There is no source as suicides are not reported on the news.

Well then may he rest in peace. Although people shouldn't assume such things about the kid if they didn't even really know him (according to your what you said, he had little friends). In the whole grand scheme of things life goes on, just not for him.

Heresy =/= Hearsay
Kids have it pretty tough nowadays, always sad when one of them feels they can't live anymore though. Sorry to hear about your classmate.

the news, radio, print, television, etc. never reports on suicides with a few exceptions, its a policy throughout the western countries (and the world i think?).

I'm a former student of JCI and I'm really sad to have heard this. The idea of suicide really bothers me. I find it to be very disrespectful to the people who care about you. And I'm sure this young man may have had people who cared for him.

his mother and brother recently left him because of his school grades.
She's not gonna forgive herself now, if that was the case. RIP

I would find that a little hard to believe. OP likely has the information wrong. It sounds too ridiculous to be true, in fact.
what made you think that the suicide person had chinese parents?
Stereotyping. I must admit, I was thinking the same thing when I was reading it. Chinese or South Asians.

No proper Asian parent gives up on their children if they have bad grades. Not doing so well in school is motivation for most of them to push you harder. Grades are a big deal to traditional Asian parents - they don't just give up.
Kids have it pretty tough nowadays
Are you serious? Kids these days are spoon-fed a lot of things us older folks needed to work hard and earn.
Suicide is the easy way out. If this really was a suicide, then I really can't show sympathy. That said, nobody really knows whether this is a suicide or not. Not sure if we'll ever find out.

I agree with this...in Asia it's reported and what happens next is whole bunch of other suicides happen afterwards

people who commit suicide are selfish and don't care about anyone they leave behind. they just look for an easy way out.

Yup, they usually don't leave you ... just beat you to death. :|
Suicides due to bad grades are common in HK and I believe China also ... because it is so competitive there (unlike here in North America).
Oh .. i just realized .. i think I know why! Over there, you move up in the company if you have high education, whereas here you see many successful people without any post-secondary education, while people with good education are at the bottom of the chain (i'm not just talking about Bill Gates, but many project leads and managers in the company you're working at now). So it's a little different than here. Even Donald Trump mentioned it last time he came to Toronto at the Learning Annex a few months ago (yes i went to it!)
Yes, you heard it here first!! I'm brilliant! ha!

Not necessarily. You don't know the circumstances that caused the suicide. Maybe the person has no friends or family, then who is left to care about them?

When someone has reached that point in their (last moments) life nothing else matters. Nothing. It's beyond logic and reasoning.
His life continues, but not here. Whatever he's experienced, here is the last place he'd rather be.

After reading the first two sentences a few more times, he jumped out of his own building.

Actually it wasn't stereotyping. The original post said the guy who committed suicide was Asian. The OP obviously edited it because it's quite different now than it was when I read it.
