I need to know how close a house is to a fire hydrant (in Kingston) - how can i find out that info without going there myself and measuring (i live out of town so i can't do it myself, i don't know anyone in that city, and the fire department receptionist would NOT help me out - she told me to measure myself!!!).
Anyone?? THANKS!

Marlek lives in Kingston. I think Shaner does too. Ask them.

Measure your stride and walk the distance from your house to the hydrant in a straight line. Multiply your stride by the number of strides you take.
I'm guessing this is for insurance, and they want to make sure that your house is within a certain radius of a hydrant. I'm not sure what the maximum distance is.
EDIT: Never mind, I missed the part where you said you don't live in Kingston.

never heard of someone trying to buy a house next to a hydrant but hey everyone's got there reasons .
if its to buy tell your real estate person you want pics of the street that the house is on. and the rough size of the lots in the pictures determine how many houses it is and then multiply it with the rough size of each lot.

if you have a hydrant on your lawn, your also gonna have a lot of dog pee on your lawn!

Let me know where the house is and if I can find time, I'll get a rough measurement.

This is a good way to deter people from parking near your house. Good idea.

Its probably for insurance purposes, insurance wants to make sure your house is within X feet of a hydant.

Thanks everyone - turns out i was able to get someone in kingston to get the info for me. BTW, it was indeed for insurance purposes, not because i actually care... The house is in a suburb so i knew that they were all over the place, but my home insurance people need to know exactly how far away it is apparently...
