How much does it cost to put an item up for sale on Ebay? Let's say the item sells for $5.. How much would it cost? Never sold anything on Ebay before, this will be my first thing. Thanks ladies and gents.

About 5 % of your final selling price.

+ if you want to put lots of pictures, or have a gallery item, or listing in bold.

As cheap or as expensive as u want it.

Is it worth your time selling something for $5?
I could see if u had cases of stuff at $5 each...

Hrm, can I use the [img] tags instead of paying to put pictures in? Can I just throw a link in the auction to a photobucket account with pictures?... lol. Thanks.

just copy and paste the hosted picture when writing up the description. you write up your description on an online word processor like MS Word. thats what i did a couple of times.

register an account and wait for the 5c or free listing days. better than paying $1-3 on initial listing fees for such a low priced item. then you got 4-5% ending/paypal fees if you use paypal

If I click "End Item" and the item has a bid, will it end with that highest bidder as the winner or cancel the whole auction? Thanks..

Alright, I have another problem..

I put in the auction "Buyer must pay within 24 hours". Well, I've sent this guy 3 messages and still has not paid. I told him he has until 7pm tonight which would be 25 hours... If he doesn't pay by then should I just go ahead and give him negative feedback? Sorry, first time selling.. ;)

thats really jackass and unreasonable. 1 week is reasonable. 24hrs isnt enough time.

Um, wow... I don't think it is at all and I think what you said is a gross over-statement.

^ This guy says 34 hours to pay (that's not me..)

^ This guy gives 48 hours...

Etc etc, you get my point, a lot of people do it.. Some people give 1 week (7 days) but just as many people say 24 hours. I had 4 auctions up at the same time and 3/4 paid immediately, cept this guy. And he already has 3 negative feedbacks in the past few months for being a "non-paying bidder" and his account was suspended for 1 month back in Feb.

Sounds like the buyer may be a problem, and lots of people pay right away, but 24 hours is pretty tight. My view would be that 3 days is fair. Many people don't live on their computer and it wouldn't be uncommon for someone to be away from their PC for more than 24 hours.

24 hours is to restricting. 72 hours is more reasonable.

I stated it CLEAR in the auction, if they can't make the deadline why bid?

Now the guy is being an arsehole to me. Here's a quote from him:

Read the ebay and paypal guidelines, you CANNOT dictate a 24 hour deadline for payment. I was just about to pay, but because of the message you just sent, I'll make sure to take my time. You should really learn some business manners and skills if you want to be successful with Ebay.

I'm not selling this guy the game anymore.. Can anyone link me to what this guy is saying? Isn't it just that, "guidelines" and not rules?

There is some hold time about filing a non-paid report. The guy has a point, 24 hours is really tight. If you are going to succeed, your going to have to be flex-able. Its all part of the business world. Make the sale, take the money and lesson away. At the end of the day, you still get paid.

You have any idea how many "successful" Ebayers put a 24-48 hour window at the end of an auction? Uh, this is NOT out of the norm people. THE POINT IS, HE READ THE AUCTION, IT WAS RIGHT THERE CLEAR AS DAY, HE KNOWS PAYMENT IS REQUIRED WITHIN 24 HOURS. Why bid if he isn't going to pay? If you cant pay within 24 hours of auction close WHY BID ON SOMETHING THAT REQUIRES IT?

Seriously? Wow.. So, let me guess. Because I put "Payment must be made within 24 hours of auction closed" I deserve all that crap he sent me? Like, "I'll take my time and wait to the last minute now.." and comment on my business manners when the first 2 messages I sent him were VERY polite. The third was still relatively nice. The worst thing I said was "You failed to pay in the time period of 24 hours".

If you cant pay 30 bucks in 24 hours that's just sad. Don't bid on the darn item then! I always pay immediately after auctions close when I buy items.

THIS GUY MADE UP RULES SAYING EBAY DOESN'T ALLOW PEOPLE DICTATING WHEN PAYMENT HAS TO BE MADE BY. NOT TRUE. IT'S NOT IN THIER POLICY, I TALKED TO A REP AND READ IT OVER...

Hrm, let's take a look at this guys negative feedback already:
power.great: This Guy Jeff Kearsey is a shill bidding Scammer! I have prove from Ebay!

fixxxerxo: Haha, What a joke. Mr.Zero feedback who DOES NOT PAY AND MAKES EXCUSES. NICE TRY

power.great: Seller was Suspend for 1month by ebay cause of Shill Bidding Scam .Case#18422809

And this:

kitten.girl: WORST EVER EXPERIENCE ON EBAY! THIS GUY IS HORRIBLE AND NASTY AVOID HIM!!!!!!!!!

fixxxerxo: Mad because I am trying to get a refund for damaged goods? Own up to your faults

kitten.girl:ITEM WAS IN PERFECT CONDITION...OBVIOUS SCAMMER AVOID AT ALL COSTS

This guy is detrimental to Ebay. This was a horrible transaction. I want to leave him negative feedback but if I do he'll leave it for me too... So i'll wait to see if he leaves me negative feedback first..

To conclude this large post. I'm just very upset right now with this guy and I got little support from here so it made me a bit more frustrated.. Sorry for posting.

You failed to see the point. A 24 hour cap is dumb, a 48 is reasonable, a 78 is proper. Thread over. Apparently its your way or no way.

+1

24hr pay period is stupid because people have lives. some people dont live on the internet like most of us. just because you check your email 10x per day doesnt mean everybody else does.

i always do at least 72 hours when i put up an auction. most people do pay within a day but there are a few that take a little longer.

24hours=stupid just like reserve prices.
