Well, I lost my phone last night - called the places I've been and now am thoroughly convinced that whoever has it is stealing it - since they turned it off.

I called Rogers to de-activate the phone. I'm really upset because of my contacts and child's photos are on there.

I don't expect to get it back. Should I also call Rogers and get it stopped? They are still charging me for a service I can't use, even tho the phone is deactivated.

Any suggestions please? Thank you.

Did you call Rogers to de-activate the phone or call them to tell them that your phone was stolen?

You should stress that the phone was stolen. I don't think they will charge you for anything but probably a replacement phone.

All the best, it sucks that you lost your kid's photos.

Thank you very much. :(

I called again - and for others out there, here's some information.

Yes, you have to stress that you don't just want to deactivate it for a while, you want to stop the service, which I was able to do - but only for a month. You are still charged the 6.95 fee, whatever that is, but not for the plan.

So - I have one month free and deactivated, they'll hold my number but my SIM card and info is gone, gone, gone.

Why are there not enough honest people in the world that can turn things in once in a while?

So when you called the first time did you use the key word 'stolen'??

If all you told them is that 'I want my phone deactivated' they're obviously going to not do it as quickly and ask more questions. The second you tell them it's stolen they will have zero hesitation to freeze your account.

Dont store too much private stuff in your phone or mp3 players.

In case it hasn't been properly advised yet.

call Rogers
Say Verbatim: "My phone has been stolen, please DEACTIVATE MY SIM CARD IMMEDIATELY".
For good measure feel free to ask them to check on past activity since you've lost it, and if so to ensure none of it will manifest as a ridiculous overage bill come bill cycle end date.

Rogers...does not 'stop' phones. Your phone is free for anybody to use, Only thing you can do is as I've detailed above.

My condolences :D.

I know what you mean. I certainly know a lot of honest people. One buddy of mine (fellow RFD'er) found an ipod nano in the park. He posted signs all over the place until weeks later found its owner. Another friend found a video ipod in the middle of the sidewalk. He posted signs until the owner was found. I have found wallets (full with credit cards and cash) and have promptly returned them (to save the owner the hassle of cancelling the cards).

Yes, because mp3 players can't be lost, right?

Anway, it wasn't a lot of private stuff - contact numbers and a few pics.

Yeah, sucks to have those kinds of people around.

My aunt found a K790a on the ground or something, and since we were having a family gathering, brought it over to my house. My dad and I took a look at the phone and managed to call the owner's mother. From then on, my dad just went and returned it to the family who was enjoying their lunch at Star Walk :cheesygri

Wow. You've never lost anything. Right? You're an ass. And why would I not store personal things on it such as contacts and photos?? Why buy a cell phone? What do you do with yours look at it? lol.

Did you or your dad get rewarded in anyway? cuz if not that would be kinda crappy.. then again I believe in karma sometimes.

But dam a K790a, could sell that on BST easily for $240 :cheesygri

Just wanted to check as in your initial post I wasn't quite sure...
