OFFICIAL Hertz Car Rental Discount Codes & Coupons

[Any questions or rate requests, please post on this thread. Also
please report any expired or trouble using the coupon]

General Information:
Hertz is the world's second largest car rental company. Because of its past affiliation with Ford, the rental fleets of most Hertz locations consist of Fords and Ford brands such as Mazda, Mercury and Lincoln. It is not uncommon, however, to find Hertz rental cars from non-Ford companies such as Toyota, Hyundai, Kia and General Motors. Fun collection is a unique collection of fun and sporty cars, inclusive of SIRIUS Satellite Radio, for example, Nissan 350Z, Ford Shelby GTH and Ford Mustang. Prestige collection is high performance vehicles, inclusive of NeverLost In-Car Navigation System, for example, Lincoln MKZ, Lincoln Navigator, Infiniti FX35, Infiniti G35, Cadillac Escalade, Volvo S80, Audi Q7, Audi A4 and even Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar in high volume locations. Green collection is fuel-efficient, environmentally-friendly cars, for example, Ford Fusion, Toyota Camry and Toyota Prius Hybrid. Sirus satellite radio equipped car is available for a fee.

Hertz has excellent area / branch coverage. Most airport locations are 24/7 or will stay open late until your flight arrives.

They are on a high end, best premium business class car rental agency, rather than a cheap rental car company, but when you apply the discount code and coupon. They are quite reasonable. You also get frequent travel points that other second tier companies don't provide. For example, 500 United miles per rental. They offer Hertz #1 Awards Program where you can redeem for Hertz rental certificates or exchange them for points with participating airlines and hotel partners frequency programs. These points alone should be worth around $10-20 for each rental. They provide best service, car in general and they don't try to scam you by claming minor car damages you did not cause. A full size for them is Chevrolet Impala or Ford Taurus; some second tier companies claim Nissan Altima is a full size.

Discount Code Usage:
Book directly on www.Hertz.com. You can also book it using Expedia or Travelocity by selecting you have a discount code and Hertz as car rental company.

Once you indicated you have a discount(CDP), coupon, or other offer, you will see following boxes:

Discount/CDP/Club Code: This is where you enter the discount code. For example: 1757580. By entering this code, it pulls up discounted rate as well as other features such as underage fee waived or insurance included. Features currently do not show up on the web booking confirmation. Do NOT check "Quote me the program my company has negotiated" or "I am traveling on Company Official Travel". CDP's association is displayed on the second page right hand side when booked using Hertz.com. Do not use "Your rate has been discounted by XX %" as a judge for how good a CDP is due to Hertz adjusts base price as well. Always compare the final total approximate charges.

If you have #1 Gold status, then you can rent a car without the rental
agents' help, so they will not have a chance to check your CDP code.

Promotional Coupon(PC): You can use a CDP and stack your saving with one coupon. The coupon number (e.q. 101651) is a number printed on a coupon to identify it. The coupon value is reflected in your estimated total right the way.

Most of these Hertz coupons are electronic and don't require anything physical to be presented. And most of the cases rental agents wouldn't ask about it. In case you are asked to present the coupon, a common excuse is "it is an internet coupon" etc. In any case, try to use ones that have a link for printout first.

Rate Code (RQ): It is used to force computer only to search certain special discount rate.

Convention Number (CV): Not useful.
Voucher Code (IT): Not useful.

Thanks.

I always meet this kind of problem, everytime I call Hertz airport location,

to rent around weekend. they said "sold out" to me. but I can still book

on hertz.ca website. Last time, I called them , was told " sold out", I still

booked on website, went to airport location and picked up one car.

why they always say " sold out" ?

Hertz used to have competitive rates but I find now have higher than average rates. I rented one last weekend (because I had an excellent rate code from travelzoo that was also posted here) and the agent agreed with me - couldn't understand why people still rent with Hertz when it is so expensive. Granted the airport location is opened 24hrs, service is satisfactory and yes they have a green collection and some japanese makes but your reservation does not guarantee that you get the car you want.

ANYWAY...my posting is to tell you this: from what the agent tells me, in case of accidents and you do not take Hertz's liability coverage/LDW, Hertz DOES NOT deal with credit card company insurance nor your regular auto insurance company.

This means that: Hertz will bill YOU directly for the damages and YOU have to sort it out with the insurance company.

Meaning Hertz will bill you $500 for one blown tire, for example, and depending how you negotiate with the insurance company, you might be able to only claim back $150 - the estimated market cost of replacing one tire.

The agent recounted a situation a renter had where someone ripped off the jaguar animal emblem off the hood of his rented jaguar and Hertz charged him $3000 for it when the replacement cost was really just $500.

Now this could have been a way to push LDW & their coverage on me but it did get me all worried..... (I didn't take it anyway). So I'm leaving Hertz off my rental list.

So just an FYI and if someone can validate/counter this piece of info, that would be great!

Tried the codes, etc, still no cheaper than I'd get by going to the Air Canada website and booking it there. And Thrifty's is still cheaper.

So, anyone have positive or negative things to say about Thrifty's?

That CDP Code ony offers 10% while I tried at the following location:
Hurontario Novotel Hotel, 3670 Hurontario Street, Mississauga , ON, CA

Why not use CAA which offers 15%? Anyone has a better code?

CDP Name: CAR & DRIVER
CDP Rate: Your rate has been discounted by 10 %

No. This code generally better than CAA/AAA if not the same. I have checked out that location and the rate is the same. DO NOT trust Hertz's display of % discount alone. Because the adjust the base rate as well. Besides, not everyone is CAA member. This is freely to use for everyone.

Again, that promotion is for May only. Thrifty might not honour the rate. Who knows. Rent and report back please. Their rate be hard to beat. But hertz is:

-Best premium business class car rental agency
-Outstanding fleet. Interesting Hertz Prestige/Fun/Green Collection.
-Unlimited miles (even for one way trips)
-Easy one way rental with unlimited miles
-Excellent Rates

Hertz/Avis' fleet are generally better/lower km than Thrifty. Services are also better, treat you with a respect. Thrifty is also more likely to hold you to minor scratch than Hertz or Avis. ....etc. Got to run. Will post more later.

I used Priceline for the weekend about 2 weeks ago and used quote your price. Hertz normally have $79.99 +chagres per day for a minivan. I quoted $30 (USD) and I got it for 3 days. Total paid $150 CAD for 3 days including taxes and airport charges. It was a very good deal.

Be sure that once you ask for a quote and one of the car rental agency agrees to it, you have to pay full amount to priceline and you can not cancel it. If you say you are arriving by a flight and give a flight number they may consider changes in reservation if flight is delayed or cancelled.

I am going to put $25 (always USD with priceline) next time I rent a minivan from airport.

Benefits of booking at airport is it opens at 6 am and close at 1 am midnight. So you can return it anytime. All other locations opens at 8 am or 7.30 earliest.

If you were to drive 2000KMS would the price still be the same? I got the feeling that extra KMs cost more.

With Hertz would it cost just the standard daily rate for this same scenario?

There is usually a max mileage per rental agreement. With Discount its 30days or 3000km so when you meet 30days or 3000km, you have to go to a Discount location and re-new your contract.

I have to rent downtown Toronto for my rentals and lemme tell you the rates vary wildly between the different agencies. I've never been able to get a cheap rental fro Discount as they're never ever in stock! I usually go to Avis, Thrifty and Hertz in that order.

Budget, Dollar, and the other agencies are always more expensive than these three places downtown on a regular basis.

I'm moving Thrifty up in my list because the Holiday Inn location on King has the Yaris, Prius, and Camry Hybrid in stock regularly. They also regularly have the Mazda 3 in hatchback form.

The Front/Skydome location of Hertz is good to deal with usually as far as Hertz locations go. The guys at yonge/bloor are more of a pain. Avis is the better agency at that location even though the fleet is pretty stinky right now. I'm hoping they get a fleet refresh soon as the stuff that they have never interests me.

Hertz and Avis' unlimited kilometer are a truly unlimited kilometer. If you can put on 10K, then that is what it is. No extra charge. Only second class car agencies would cheat you out of unlimited kilometer or charge you.

#4 National (sad presence in Canada)

Isn't there a class under the ford focus? I can't recall off the top of my head. If you can just go for the compact and it'll save you some dollars per day and ovr 9 nights that'll add up. They'll probably end up upgrading you to a full size anyway as the compacts really go fast.

I can't give any recent advice on the Hertz location there as far as their fleet goes. Haven't rented at that location in a while. The service is good there though.

If you wanna do a scouting mission you can always go to where the cars are parked underground if you're in the neighborhood and you can compare the fleets yourself! I believe Hertz in general prefers US cars for their fleets in Toronto but you might get lucky and get a japanese ride.

It might be specific for Hertz as I have always avoided them due to the fact that they are the primary provider for most business travellers and most likely (IMO) to run out of cars. Also they do not upgrade you if you ask and will charge for everything.
Now I've been renting from both Avis and Budget on a reg basis (every week or so for prolly 8 years) and I've had 4 accident claims against the rentals (hit a 4x4 on a highway, had something rip off the antenna off the car, scratch of the front bumper etc) and each time, the rental agency would send me the bill, photos etc. Each time I would call my credit card company, report the dmg, cost etc and then they would deal with the rental car company directly. I just essentially connected the two parties to deal with it. Have never had any problems. I figure that in car damages alone, I've pretty much made back all of the CC charges for annual fees.

Hi

Planning to go to Montreal this weekend. So I was planning to try hertz. The thing can you rent on an international drivers liscence . Also is there anyway we dont have to pay the under 25 surcharge.
Also whats ur opinion on the LDW . If we get that do we have to pay anything in case we scratch the car (cant figure out if there is a deductible amount).

Well, in this case why don't you use Avis with AWD C03XX29. That is always my first choice. Hertz is the second choice. They certainly will rent to someone with an International license. As far as insurance goes, it is a security net. With Avis code, you have LDW is included with $3000 deductible. While this will not cover you for minior scratch, it does cover you for totalling the car or major crash. Personally, I save the money and use the basic insurance that is included with Avis C03XX29 AWD. Search for that thread.

I was told at Hertz location I'm normally renting from (Yonge/Eglinton in TO) that starting with next weekend (that's July 28) downtown/midtown Hertz locations will be charging an extra $10 per rental "parking fee" - a surcharge to compenstate for their "more expensive" central parking costs... That would be added to the rate irrespective of when a rental was booked. Sounds strange since the rate is guaranteed once you've booked it, but the agent insisted. Anyone has any details?

Just in case anyone doesn't know about Avis discount code:

WARNING: DO NOT use Avis C03___9 AWD discount code anymore. I got a
very reliable confirmation from an inside guy that this code is black
listed now. Effective immedately, all benfits associated with code are
removed(including free LDW insurance), anyone use this code will pay
maxiumum rack rate regardless of reservation or website showing rate as
well as company ID must be produced. A warning flag has been raised on
this AWD and most likely you will be questioned about where you got the
code. All in all, this code is nothing but trouble from now on.

I recommend people to use Hertz CDP discount. It's the best
discount and choice now.

Oh well, it was great while it lasted.

Hottest deal going right now.

Use a CAA CDP, PC: 102793 for $20 off a weekend day (no minimum days) and Rate Code: LAST.

Can get a last minute rental from YYZ for about $5.00 for 1 day with unlimited km.

Hertz is a rip off. Avis has way better deals. Just call them up and ask about the one free weekend deal (when you rent for the entire weekend) . I rented an midsized car (like a Pontiac G6) for Oct 5th to Oct 8th + $68.85 (Loss Damage Waive) = $227.36

Hertz is not a rip off. Hertz is the best rental company out there right now. Best service, car and policy. I have found with 1757580 CDP code, the cost is the same with Avis. So they don't have bad deal at all.

Yes, thanks Acrossenger for the codes! I was able to use your code to get a last minute rental and save some $. Couple questions...have you had experience with the price quote? When I went to pick up the car, they indicated the quoted price did not include tax; not too big an issue but, I was a little surprised.

As I also don't rent that often,...do you know what Hertz's policy on bring the ride back early (e.g. if a booked the car for 5 days and brought it back after 4, will they charge me the full amount for the 5 days? or would they charge me the daily rate multiplied the 4 days I rented). I'm going to go through the agreement more closely but, it is quite lengthy. Thanks in advance!

Hertz website does show you the final price including taxes at final page. If you return early, the computer will calculate lowest rate from daily charge or weekly charge. In general, you will end up with less costly rental.

Hi all, need a little help here. Rented a car for 2 days (Sat. Nov. 17 - Mon Nov. 19) and can't find a PC that works for me.

I used the CDP that Acrossenger provided (Thanks again Acrossenger) and it got me a nice discount but wouldn't mind a little more.

Try 106153 - $15 off a weekend rental (2 days). They ask for a paper coupon at times though.

Dunno if a new list of last minute specials will become available but the current one ends on 12th Nov https://www.hertz.com/rentacar/specialoffers/index.jsp?targetPage=lastminutespecials.jsp&Category=D

You can pick a car from YYZ for $20 a day and then using the coupon above, The rental is $40 for two days (excluding insurance)

Both Hertz and Avis allows you to rent from Canada and drop off in US. I have done so in Toronto to Buffalo as well as Vancouver to Seattle. One way is not too bad. Again, the code helps in one way rental as well.

We've considered that, but the preference is to go down together as a family in one vehicle...however I wouldn't be willing to pay that much, so it may be inevitable.

Enterprise and Budget gave me quotes of <$300, but restricted to 200 km/day. I'll have to do the math and figure out what all the extra km's will cost me.

regarding insurance for car rentals...i would be driving with my friend from buffalo to maybe nyc city dec 21 - 22.

we have got international license however i would like to enquire on how much would it cost for example to get FULL insurance coverage (ranging from any small dent to mangling the entire car). we would prefer avis or hertz as the codes here seem to very much like these 2 car rental brands.

i calculated that checking all the insurance options would add on an extra $30 thereabouts...i was wondering if there's anything i possibly left out (as i keep hearing from sites and friends that insurance extras can come up to extra $100 +++)

by the way if getting a intermediate SUV, does it qualify for insurance coverage? i have read somewhere that it there's no insurance coverage for Full SUV..is that true across the board?

and since it's pretty much my first time in the US...i was wondering whether a intermediate car or even a compact car would suffice for the cold roads in winter december...or would we need at least a intermediate SUV? you know skidding and stuff...

any help would be greatly greatly appreciated! :D

$25-30 per day would cover insurance charge from Hertz or Avis. In this case, you will not have to pay a cent in case of accident (unless you are drinking & driving, racing, off-roading, towing a trailer...etc, but let's not go there). As long as you purchase car rental company's insurance your are covered, regardless of car class. Credit card do not cover certain car classes, for example, pick ups.

Remember an Intermediate SUV is not a necessary 4 wheel drive vehicle in the rental world. It just means you will get a vehicle looks like a small SUV.

Thanks,

Try Local outfits in downtown that maybe somewhat cheaper; Last time (3 years ago) they even offered shuttle from the airport to their locations (guessing that they will have to return some cars back to their locations for the next rental).

I don't know about the time of the year; back in April, I couldn't book a car from the web/phone from the Atlanta airport. Then upon arriving, trying my luck, the counter person was able to get me an even better last minute deal.

Safeguard by booking a rental that can be canceled as a backup.

i always try and get the best deals for renting cars and accrossenger has been a great help providing these codes and the waiver on the fee for the gold membership...i thought to contribute and help you guys out as much as I can.

For those needing a rental, please check out the link below:

http://www.aircanada.com/en/offers/index.html

Click on the Car offers link and it will take you to Air Canada's Hertz portal. Click on Special Offers and only an Air Canada link will show up. There you will find the special offers(incluiding the $17 special rate.

Even though this is through aircanada, you do not need any specific CDP number to use their promos. I managed to rent last weekend a full size sedan for $23/day. If you do not need a car that big, the compacts go for $17/day.

As for the poster asking about renting an SUV, try and rent from a non-airport location or even non-downtown. Suburb locations tend to be $5-10 cheaper from my canvassing in Toronto.

Furthermore, being a gold member, I managed to upgrade to an SUV(Ford Explorer-7 seater) during that rental for $25 more, so about $50/day was the rate. All you have to do is call in advance the day of your reservation and inquire what's on the lot and see how much would it be on top of your rental. All in all, my rental with unlimited kms and upgraded to a SUV was $180 tax in.

If you need further information or specific locations that are pretty lenient on upgrades, please PM me.

Thanks and good luck!

hmm but i read in some clauses that let's say there's a ($3000) attached to the back of the checked desired insurance...it means you have to pay the first $3000 in damages before the car rental companies absorb the rest...does it apply for Hertz and Avis?

i am just lost over the fine prints...

the FIFTY rate code only works for US locations.

That's what the fine print says in Acrossenger's post, but if you go through Hertz.ca > Special Offers > Weekend/Weekly Vacation there is a link for 50% off weekend rentals at Airport and Off-Airport locations.

Clicking that link brings up a choice between airport and non-airport locations "in Canada and the U.S. ".

Clicking that link (sheesh!) brings you back to the initial reservations page with, you guessed it, "FIFTY" in the RQ box. Submitting the reservation brings up the "Not all requirements for the Rate Code" message. Yuk.

Edited to add new info
Sorry, but while the info above was accurate yesterday, today they've changed the process from putting "FIFTY" in the RQ box to putting 104182 in the Promotional Coupon box.

No matter, though. Instead of the "Not all requirements message", this coupon just doesn't do anything! I ran through the process with the coupon and without and the rates don't change, only availability (with the coupon code, mid-size SUVs "cannot be quoted").

I have tried several west-Toronto locations (all off-airport), all with the same results. The Hertz system is busted.

Just to follow-up...I wasn't able to rent a Yukon directly from Avis' website, so I called the Pearson location directly. After speaking with the manager I negotiated a deal for $520 and 2500 km's...it seems reasonable considering Hertz quoted me $720 (w/ unlimited km's though).

I personally think renting a car is far cheaper than getting a limo for few hours. Hertz is your best bet for Navigator or Escalade. Avis is trying to phase them out due to no one want to drive SUV any more(which BTW I think is a wrong decision).

I need a car for two people for one day for some driving around the city... THere are so many coupons listed that the choice of combinations is mind boggling!! i guess i dont need any points since i never rent - the cheaper the better for us i guess...

Thanks acrossenger for the gold membership, car rental booked, but oddly, came across a AAA code 107192 in the gold site that resulted in a better deal than the car & driver code because the rental was after Dec 31, 2007.

midsize SUV in ft lauderdale florida for $194 us for a week. Not bad

free child seat because used AAA.

Funny because, when I tried searching through the CAA website, it had no availability of any SUV class.

there's a 50% off hertz deal on right now at airport/ off-airport locations...but is only good up to a full size sedan. I would suggest booking this and when at the counter request if you could be upgraded to a minivan.

I found though that there's also an Alamo deal that gives you 15% off. Just booked via an airport location for $165 tax in for the weekend. PM me if you need further details.

Just had a bit of a question about it though: The letter accompanying the card in the mail states that on your first rental with the card that you'll be asked to provide your driver's license and the credit card from your profile, "and some additional checks will be performed." Anybody know what these checks are? Anybody have any problems using the card for the first time?

As an aside, I just booked with Hertz using the code from the Air Canada website - 50% off plus 250 bonus Aeroplan miles (I think it was mentioned earlier in the thread) for Calgary next month - $57.97 for a mid-size, 3 day weekend rental, including taxes!

When trying to use codes, some will only work at certain locations.

Example i am having troubles using codes at the Ottawa Airport(yow) and according to hertz it is because they are a franchise and the franchise only allows corporate codes.I even have tried using codes off their own website that are not usable at that location, after plugging in many codes their best price is still cheaper then using any codes.

Hi,

I'm flying to Salt Lake City, Utah next week and I need an SUV to get me around. I've been trying to get a sense of all the posts. Here's what I've found:

I used the 1757580 CDP code and found for 4days from a Hertz location near my hotel it came out to $254 for a RAV4. Renting from the airport means that I have to pay for an extra day plus the 9.25% airport fee. Which would come to over $400. I figure getting a cab to get us from the airport to the hotel and then renting the next day near the hotel will be cheaper. Any thoughts on this?

I tried some of the other PC codes, but they all seem to make it worst. Is there a way that I can get a better deal then this through Hertz (or even another rental company)? Will this Gold membership save me money? Read a post that recommended renting a full-size to take advantage of the 50% off and then upgrading to a SUV, but is there a risk that they may not have any SUVs?

Thanks for your help,
Twigz

I dont have another PC code, but the gold membership is more to avoid the lines while picking up the vehicle. I would suggest booking the existing rate first as a backup (because sometimes they increase further). and yes, you cannot count on a SUV being available unless you booked it specifically.

If your travel plans are fixed, you could go to priceline.com and bid less than $30/day for the airport location. sometimes they have really low rates.

twigz
Feb 2nd, 2008, 12:37 PM
So I started the bidding process on priceline.. never done it before. It said that at $30/day, there's a small chance that a company will accept the bid. A big of $53/day will hold a good chance. If I were to place the bid for $30, and someone accepts, is there a chance I may not have certain important features like unlimited mileage? On the flip side, if no one picks up that bid can I just cancel it, or do I need to bid again?

Found a deal through enterprise for a trailblazer (one class higher than the rav4) for 4-days for $234.71... bit better than Hertz. Do you think Hertz would beat this price?

Thanks again.

unlikely that hertz matches anyone's price, but you could call and try. wonder what your dates are. anyway, priceline wins are always major rental companies, so you will always get unlimited mileage. make your best offer, it will either be accepted or rejected immediately. if accepted, you cannot make any change. if rejected, you have the option of making a fresh offer or just let it go. priceline always tries to make you bid higher (for obvious reasons). I would suggest $27/day first. if rejected, try $30/day. after this your total price probably crosses $210 with tax, so you might as well go along with enteprise/hertz.

twigz,

Did you try booking with pickup by your hotel and returning at the airport? Is the price the same? Usually, the airport concession fee only applies when you pick it up from the airport. This saves you the cab fare plus you can leave your luggage in the car for the rest of the day.

there could be several factors in regards to the message you are receiving. Ensure that you have met all requirements. If you are still unable to get it to work, call Hertz and provide them the code. They can find out quickly if there is something wrong with your reservations.

Has anyone found a discount code to waive the underage fee? I have tried 1757580, but it does not waive it any more. Also, I was paying with a credit card with auto insurance, but Hertz did not waive the fee. Any suggestions on what I should do? Thanks

Yes you can. Though if you get an Emerald Club membership, and you should.. you can google for links for free membership... they rarely ask for the coupon... I've never been asked. FYI- The NF14 coupon is from the 2007 book.. and is valid until June... if you know someone that has an old book kicking around.. grab it.

Just wanted to say thanks to this thread I ended up getting a pretty good deal on a Trailblazer..I needed a good sized SUV for this weekend, and got the Blazer with National Car for $169, taxes included with 1200 km's. I'll probably go a bit over the km's, but it's only 0.15 more per km.

Thanks again!

Thanks OP!

I need a car in Vegas from June 21 to July 1. I ended up getting two separate rentals. One from the 21st to the 24th, and another from the 24th to the 1st. This is so that I could use the 50% off weekends and the $30 of weekly. It's for a fullsize. (Impala, Grand Prix, Saturn Aura, Ford 500, Taurus. )

Total is $243, and I'll likely have to drive back to the airport one to get the second leg. Still, I think it's pretty good to get a full-size for under $25/day after taxes. If anyone has any guidance for a better price, let me know.

Does anyone know what "Gold Service is not available" and "Gold service not confirmed" means???

Same problem. Using this and another good code and cannot get unlimited KM no matter what. This is in New Brunswick.

I think the unlimited km is offered only at certain rental locations and not at others. BTW - I am booking a 3 day weekend. Unfortunately 200 km /day will just not work out.

How do i get the free hertz #1 Gold card.

I tried that link on the first page.
Then i got to the hertz web page.

I click #1 Club Overview.
There are 2 options "Hertz #1 Club" and "Hertz #1 Club Gold".
There is only option to click on the "Join now" for "Hertz #1 Club".
There is no place i could join "Hertz #1 Club Gold".

Most of the promo codes expired in March. Any new ones yet?

I am trying to rent for one week in NFLD and the cheapest rate I get is about $40 per day plus all the fees!

Also I don't get unlimited mileage, even with Gold Club Membership. It just gives me 100 km per day. That is not nearly enough.

I dunno guys. I went through pages upon pages of codes for all of the companies and entered them into the sites and it returned not much of a deal.

Now mind you this was for a compact for 18 days in Orlando this coming July.

The best deal I got was going over to www.priceline.com and naming my own price, which came back accepted.

The cheapest I was seeing for a compact using all of these codes, worked out to $25/day. With the priceline name your own price, I got it for $18/day and from Alamo.

Try the priceline and do not waste valuable time with hundreds upon hundreds of codes!

Anyone know any weekly rental coupons that apply to Minivans? I was planning on getting the van from National Car (i am an emerald member) but its coming to $400 for 6 days with 1400km limit. While the $400 seems okay, 1400km is not. We are planning on going to Quebec City and that a 1000 km one way trip.

$0.24x600 = $144 (plus tax?) for excess milage alone kills that :(

I suggest checking priceline.com or hotwire.com. You may be able to find a cheaper price or possibly offer your bid on a price to get the price lower. You will likely need to pick it up from the airport (You're in Sauga, so it's nearby), but it will be unlimited kms.

Hi,

One of the Terms/Conditions for a rental I found is I would have to for-go the Unlimited KMs if I travel into the US.

Then it turns into 200 km/day and $0.15/km additional.

So I asked them how they would know if I went to the US or not
(I'm planning to rent in Toronto, drive to NYC and return the rental back in Toronto when I'm back)

The first rep said "I dont know"
Second rep said "the border notifies us" .. LOL... LIES!

Does anyone know how they would know if the rental went into the US or not??

What about using priceline's offer/name your price ? I booked a compact car over at LAX for $13/day back in February (not refundable), will any of these codes beat that?

Can I still sign up for a Hertz frequent membership card and take advantage of any additional promotion? Like a free car rental day in the future?

Awesome stuff, i just made a reservation for this weekend. Do i need to take the gold membership of theirs to the store when i pick it up or nothing necessary?

Also will this be valid for me being a University Student or will they reject this deal when i go to pick up?

Thanks for the deal anyways, i made a reservation. Hopefully it all turns out well.

Actually, most of the time it will cost more - airports are considered premium locations and have additional "premium location surcharge" - which you will find listed together with oher sucharges in your final price.

Sometimes, however, airport might provide cheaper rental rate, which will offset the surcharge and overall cost will be lower.

Bottom line - make sure that you compare total cost, including all the surcharges, when comparing rental rates at the different locations or from the different companies.

Discount car has weekend promotion from time to time.
This week's code is 8255.

http://www.discountcar.com/French/WebDiscount.cfm?PIN=8255

Usually the cost of three days is cheap than Hertz's 1+1 promtion.

The problems of discount are:
- it is easily sold out and you may wait for a long time to pick your car. In the worst case, no car at all
- 600 KM for 3 days

no real codes specific for a city, however, I would book weekly deals using the Car and Driver CDP # and you should be able to save some $$$. Once your vacation comes up, also check the daily deals and see if this option would be cheaper.

This is a company discount plan (CDP) from Carmel Services. I have never used this company deal, but you may have better luck using the Car and Driver or the Walmart CDPs as these are generic and could be used by anyone. Carmel Services may require you to provide identification at the counter...so YMMV.

Is that Hertz 50% off for weekend rate the best deal for ALL car rentals?

You'll probably save in the range of $30-$40 bucks (for the 50% off the 1 day), but Hertz's rates are so high to begin with.
Here's some more Hertz coupon codes (http://ww2.aaa.com/coupon/ZEmemberaaa.html) in case they weren't discussed...

Still, I think Dollar Rent-A-Car is way cheaper when using either one of these code combinations:

1. Using Master Card Corporate Code (http://www.mastercard.com/ca/business/en/middlemarket/offers.html) (BR0312) - "Pay with Master Card and Get Absolute Lowest Rate Plus 5%"
- up to 50% off (I booked the 2-day weekend for the price of 1-day)
- underage (24-) fees waived

i.e. 2 Weekend days at $18.80 per day (mid-size). Unlimited kilometers.
Base Rate: $37.60
Total Estimated Charges: $55.66

2. AMEX Card Codes
AX10 - 10% off (weekend)
AXCN - 15% off (weekly)

i.e. 2 Weekend days at $33.00 per day (mid-size). Unlimited kilometers.
Base Rate: $66.00
Total Estimated Charges: $84.13

Those quotes are for Montreal Airport (YUL), which also doesn't quote a charge for different drop-off location.

Also, a 1 day free GPS rental, kinda useless (http://www.neotravel.com/gfx/coupons/dollar-gps-coupon.gif)

Their regular rates are usually the very lowest (cheaper than Hertz by about $20/day).

Useful tidbit for those who have kids: When you use the Car & Driver CDP, not only do you get a discount rate better than AAA/CAA, you also get the same benefit of free infant / child car seats with your rental. At least that's how it looks on my booking. They would be $12 per day per seat otherwise.

it's very unlikely they will have deals on luxury vehicles. most of the coupons cover compact to full-size cars. Rentals know they can make money off the luxury vehicles and specialty cars as well (vans, etc).

You are able to rent luxury, but I suggest booking way in advance to try and get some sort of a lower quote. You would have to check with the location to see what luxury cars they have..it's usually an Audi or Mercedes.

Has anybody had any luck using the Hertz Family member CDP: 1652960 ?

I found it posted on another forum when I did a search on Google. It has ridiculously low rates, but you will most likely be asked to show ID. So, to get around it, folks were using the online check-in + kiosk checkin at the hertz location.

I havent rented at Hertz recently so my question is, do they have the Kiosks at all their locations, or only the Airport?

Anyways, I went ahead and made a reservation for this Sunday for a one day rental (Chevy Impala, $30 taxes in), and will see how it goes...

It's strictly for Hertz Family member, at the time of pick up they ask details about the family member who works for Hertz and check the records(by calling up that location). I tried it once but it was a no go. Even with online check-in or Hertz Gold membership they hold you reservation. So it's better not to book with it and waste your time.

if you have a gold membership, you can bypass the kiosk..but this only works at airport locations. This will allow you to bypass the kiosk and get the quote you asked for....so use this CDP with caution and only at specific locations.

So, I just did a look up for a one week rental using the Hertz Family CDP: 1652960, Starting Sept 19.

These are some rates that I got:

Audi A6 Quattro - $401.

Audi A4 Cabriolet - $401

Infiniti G35 - $331

Those rates include tax. They even had an Audi Q7 but it was sold at the pick up location (Orlando Intl Airport).

It might be a huge gamble for you, but its well worth it imo...

I've been searching for codes/coupons for a weekly rental for a minivan in LA.
The best rate I could find with or without codes/coupons was $305 from Enterprise. Hertz gave me a $389 quote AFTER a $20 off weekly rental coupon.

I took my chance with Hotwire because they were advertising minivan rentals from $30 a day. It gave me a quote of $279 taxes et al.
After confirmation of payment, they finally disclose to me that my rental car company is: HERTZ!!!

Great Deal IMHO. Better than any of the codes/coupons I've been able to find.
BTW Hotwire only deals with Hertz, Avis, National, Budget, or Enterprise so you don't have to worry that you'll be dealing with a small no-name rental agency.

Generally, renting from the airport may give you a better chance for unlimited mileage (on the basis that an inbound traveller may need to go far). You might want to try Avis.

Hi all,

I am planning to rent a car from August 14th and returning it 17th at the Toronto airport (YYZ) (3 days) ... any suggestions as to what codes to use to get the lowest rate? I don't mind renting for an extra day if I can get some sort of weekend deal.

So far, I have tried the Car&Driver code (1757580) for Hertz to get $227.67.
The Mastercard code (BR0312) for Dollar to get 239.50.

For both I chose mid size class and renting from 14th till 17th of August.

Also, I am a 21 year student so does that mean that I have to pay the underage fee unless I rent w/ dollar? How much would that fee be? Will there be any extra insurance I need to get before I can hit the road?

This is my first time renting a car so, any input would be greatly appreciated. :)

Also, I am a 21 year student so does that mean that I have to pay the underage fee unless I rent w/ dollar? How much would that fee be? Will there be any extra insurance I need to get before I can hit the road?

This is my first time renting a car so, any input would be greatly appreciated. :)

If you are a student at a University, i think they might waive the underage fee. I go to University Of Windsor and everytime i rent a car, i show my student id and they do waive the underage for me. When i book a car online its that price plus the insurance is what i get charged. Also if you are a student you can get the full coverage for $20/day.

Also i will have to rent a car from August 18th(Mon)-20th(Wed), it might be for an extra day which would make it 3 days. I was wondering if anyone got a code for the weekdays?

Thanks,
Varun.

Note that if you use the university underage waiver thing, you won't be able to use other discount codes. I rented one a month ago with university of waterloo deal, and they couldn't stack other code with it.

So by entering the car and driver code does the rental covers insurance as well or is not included? I am over 25

I know what you are talking about, if you go to the store, use your University card and then rent a car you cant get any deals as far as i know. There is an alternative for this.

Just book the car online for the required date at your nearest location with all the coupon codes you have for discounts and when you go there for picking it up, then show the student card to waive the underage fee as well. They will not ask any questions and i got this done 2 months in a row, once in June and also in July of this year. Good luck.

For enterprise they don't rent without insurance nor they sell insurance, you will have to have your own insurance.

Where as Hertz/Avis etc they rent cars either way but its always advisable to get insurance if you don't have one.

In your case i would just confirm the reservation, get your confirmation number and call the store that you are supposed to pick up and find out. In case if you feel its expensive, you can cancel your reservation online which is pretty straight forward.

Hertz (Kitchener, ON) told me that the liability insurance is already included in all rental. I believe, that's all you need to legally drive; however, it's wise to get CDW/LDW too if your credit card hasn't already covered it.

Are you sure? I dont have any kind of insurance and i get their full coverage for $20/day with the student discount.

So you are saying that if at all i get into a crash, liability is covered but i will have to pay for the car damages for Hertz?

Also i heard that the credit card insurances are a pain in the ass. They actually charge your credit card right away and you will probably get it cleared by your credit card when all the details are sent which would take atleast a month or a two, which is what i have heard.

There are two types of insurance. The liability one (covers 3rd party) is required by the province to drive, and the CDW/LDW one is optional to cover damages to the rental car.

The $20/day you paid is probably the CDW/LDW which covers the car but not the liability.

From what the agent told me, Hertz has already included liability insurance in all the rental. To be sure, you should ask the agent at your location.

That is correct at least for Cdn rentals. Canadian vehicle owners (Hertz) are required to have liability insurance before plates are put on the car.

You should really get the full legal document for the particular credit you have (not the summary version). Some credit cards don't cover specific types of rental vehicles and some only cover your CDW if the credit card holder is the only driver (unless it's a spouse "by their legal definition". Most don't cover vehicles with replacement value great than $65K. Again you can only know for sure if you read the full legal document for your particular credit card. I remember going through mine (it was approx. 9 pages for vehicle cover alone).

NO you don't need to present any id or verification code . This CDP# can be used by anyone it is not bound to any id of a company. I tried booking with Hertz from august 14 to August 20 and it gave me a weekly rental for an economy car for $361(taxes everything included). I used the
CDP# 1821214
PC# 121391 ($30 off)

I hope this will help you. Anyone can use this CDP #.

The best way is to take a cab to a near hotel which has a hertz location. You can still return it to the airport with no extra charge.

Usually after coupon and code the weekly rental will be 14x.xx.

As far as i know the unlimited kilometers is only for travel in the province/state. Atleast thats how it is in Ontario, technically you cant take the car into Quebec without letting them know about it.

It's not like that, if the reservation says unlimited kilometers it means it unlimited in province/state/country. In the past i have rented from Hertz with unlimited kilometers and travle to United states. If there is resteriction of Unlimited kilometer within the province then it is mentioned in reservation. I think you are safe in travelling from vancouver to Calagary.

You should probably tell them, but AFAIK, not every company permits you to take the car to the US due to their own insurance agreements. AFAIK, Budget and Enterprise do not permit renters to take the cars into the US, unless you work for one of Budget's few corporate customers (e.g., Nortel). Avis, Hertz and National usually permit it without much hassle. You may have to tell Thrifty.

I do not see why people (not you specifically, sweetvar26) find this so confusing. The rental policies are fairly easy to read with regards to geographical restrictions. Any renter should read the entire rental agreement (including these policies) anyway.

just something to share... thought may be interesting to someone...

For some reason, the rates at airport locations are much more expensive than other locations. I was flying to calgary and wanted to pick up the car at the airport. But it was twice as much as the closest location, which is 10 min drive from airport. So I finally decided to take a cab and pick up the car at that location.

Unfortunately or fortunately, the flight got delayed. The location which i made my reservation had already closed for the day and was close on the next day (Sunday) too. But then, I was told that I could just show up at the airport location and they must honor the same rate as my original reservation, plus a premium location charge (because of airport) which is about 15% in my case. So I ended up picking up the car at airport, without paying the expensive airport location rate...

Thanks OP...I signed on for the Hertz Gold Membership (Car and Driver CDP) and now am in the process of trying to book a 6 day rental starting Tues Sep 9 through Monday Sep 15 starting in San Fran and ending in San Diego. The CDP code works fine, but any promotional code does not work. I have tried all the various promo codes straight from hertz's website and all keep saying they don't qualify. I have tried extending by a day (to make it a full week and to no avail). I have mixed and matched various vehicles (would love to get the convertible mustang, but only at a good deal). Any tips? All of those daily specials, weekend specials, etc going to waste and I just hope it's something I can look into. Plus I've tried changing the location of my start point between the hotel (located in downtown San Fran with it's own Hertz) versus going back to start from the San Fran airport Hertz. Please let me know if there's any thing else I can try.

Cheers

I have been trying to book a car in NYC and am running into the same thing. I think all the codes in the first posting are out of date. Also, I think some of the promos don't work in the major tourist cities like NYC and SF. I am being quoted $60 per day for a compact car, base rate, plus all the extras and taxes. It would cost me more for 4 days than a full week in Canada! And I am a "Hertz #1 Gold Club Member". Big Deal!

The only code that gave me a very small deduction was PC 109992.

Good luck! I am now looking into the competition.

Well, I've had some luck using the promo codes listed on the first page of this thread (and ones that are listed as expired), with various ones working. The best deal I've reached so far is a convertible mustang, with all taxes, fees, ect (but excluding insurance) at $466 for 6 day (just over $70 a day). There are some extra costs because I'm picking up at one airport location and dropping off at another. I think it's as good a deal as I can get for a vehicle of this type. Now I really need to figure out if I "need" a vehicle like this (as opposed to "want"), when I probably could get a lesser, more fuel efficient version for $20 to $30 bucks a day.

ahhh, life on a budget.

cheers and good luck

Thank you so much for the promo code. I used this for a trip down to Detroit from Mississauga in August, and all went well. I logged close 1100km over 3 days, and Hertz offered great service. No questions asked, although the clerk was surprised that I was able to get a rental for such a low price. Needless to say I'll be a return customer. Thanks RFD!

I'll be heading out for a business trip to Edmonton and since I'll be out that way I would like to drive to Calgary as well. I fly into Edmonton and I would leave through Calgary, to save some driving (one-way journey). I tried using that code again and it appears it only works if I return the car to the same place that it was first picked up. I also used the Car and Driver code, but again no dice.

Does anyone have any recommendations/tips?

I just called straight in to Hertz and got a better quote than using any of the coupons. Just a question, what was the point of me signing up for the Hertz gold again?

never have to line up at the kiosks, free upgrades at times, free/discount coupons now and then, a 10% discount on all rentals I believe.

Here is a great PC code for weekend rates (will give you 50% off):

PC # 104182

This PC code works up till December 15th. You must use the PC code with a CDP though (just use the Aeroplan or Air Canada one).

tried about 5 of them in a row. Keeps telling me I haven't satisfied their requirements etc... Maybe I'm not doing it right.

Sometimes it is frustrating on Hertz website... double-check the coupon T&C's...

How about searching for rental car on travelocity? It will give you a quick price check for all rental companies.

Strange, I used the same codes as Kamloops, but am only able to rent sedans. The error I receive is "PROMOTION COUPON NOT AVAILABLE FOR THIS DATE/CAR[000000166]".

I need a van or SUV for the kids though, Calgary this Sat. the 6th to Thursday the 11th.

Any suggestions?

Can anyone recommend a code for getting a good deal on a one week rental for a full size SUV (like a Yukon or Yukon XL) from Hertz the 21st through the 28th of January. If you have any good PC or CDP codes, please post them up. Thanks in advance!

Hertz is considered to be a business class premium rental agency by most. $275 for five days with unlimited mileage and not including the underage charge seems pretty high - what are you renting anyways? You might want to check out quotes from National, Alamo, Enterprise, Avis and Budget. Also, keep in mind that once you hit five days you're often looking at more than the 'weekly' charge. It might actually be cheaper to go with a weekly promo and rent it for a full week (7 days). You can try booking national through the westjet website, sometimes that gives really great rates.

Not all requirements for the Promotion Coupon - XXXXXX requested have been met. We have removed the Promotion Coupon from your request to provide you with the best rate. If you would still like to take advantage of the Promotion Coupon, please refer to the offer details to meet all necessary requirements.

I have been trying some from here, the visaperks, and a few others and none of them work. Could it be the location (Bank St in Ottawa)? Only thing that works is using the CAA CDP code. Any help would be appreciated.

What specific code are you using? Ensure you read all the terms or feel free to call into Hertz and the agent can specifically tell you why you are working. Some of the PC codes such as the 50% off weekends only work at an Airport location and not local Hertz locations.

Hope that helps!

Looking for an unlimited KMs rental (driving to East Coast in July from Toronto area) with no charge for additional drivers.

Seems like my best option is Hertz w CAA/AAA discount/code?

I currently have CAA but I'll have to renew my wife's as I dropped it when her new car came with roadside assist for 5 years. All drivers have to be CAA members to avoid paying the $10/day extra driver fee (I've had them ask before) which is brutal on the length of trip I am taking, and considering I want 2 extra drivers.

I got the following with CDP 0000282 and Coupon 1805452 ($20 off Weekly Rental exp. Dec 15 2009 - there is a $50 off weekly rental but it expires June 30th)

Full Size 187.19 per week - Total for 17 days $563.96 incl. 10% discount

I tried the Car & Driver CDP and the price was higher, plus it wouldn't let me use the Coupon Code

Anyone think I can do any better than this? All the other agencies I've checked so far (National, Alamo) have very low KM limits!

Also, curiously no matter which location I selected Hertz did not have 'Standard' class vehicles available (Chevy Malibu or similar) which I would prefer over a full size (use a bit less gas?) but I don't want a Mid-Size (Corolla or similar), I think it would be a bit cramped for a 2+ week road trip with 4 people.

You don't want a Full Size rental at Hertz unless you *want* a Ford Crown Victoria or similar (sucks gas, crappy car and no fun to drive at all.) The nice full size cars like the Avalon or Volvos are in the "Premium" category.

Hertz always offers me a "Standard" vehicle being a Mazda 6 / Malibu / G6 style, typically. I would keep looking if that's not being offered -- or check the terms on the CDP or coupon, perhaps it is restricted by category.

Most Crown Victoria's are classed as a Premium vehicle and I havent seen one at YYZ in a very long time.

A full size rental will more than likely yield an Impala, Allure etc.

I think you still have to use a CAA/C&D CDP to get the 10% discount on all rentals...

The other big reason (for me) for getting the #1 Club Gold Membership is that your spouse (or domestic partner) is automatically authorized to operate the rental vehicle. Otherwise this is $13/day or $65/rental, unless you are both CAA/AAA members in which case it is waived (probably requires you to book with CAA CDP also)

Well I really hope I don't get a Crown Vic. Impala/Allure would be fine. I removed the CDP/coupons completely and Standard is still 'sold out' - same goes for Van and Premium isn't even presented as an option :(

Maybe I will call them see if I get any different answer.

The above codes do not worked for me - any other codes.

Keep in mind that the codes may not work because you are trying to use the code during a blackout period. Blackout periods occur during most holidays. For example, PC codes will not work from June 29th till July 5th due to Canada Day / July 4th weekend.

PC# 132753 seems to be the best code as it lets you use it for five days in a row instead of three or four days. Schedule it right, and you can use the PC code over and over in a row, meaning you can book for a week, but still pay weekend rates. For example, you can book Saturday at 6 pm till Thursday at 6 pm and still pay the discounted weekend rate at 50% off. Then book from Thursday at 6 pm till Saturday at 6 pm with the same PC code and savings. Rinse and repeat. :)

As an alternative suggestion to the coupon codes, for the first time I recently tried priceline.com bidding to get a rental car in Orlando.

I ended up getting a mid-size car from Hertz for 10 days, unlimited mileage for $11 US/day + tax = US$195.10. When we picked it up it was a red mustang.

I thought it was a great deal and would try it again. Depends on your circumstances and definitely read to understand the bidding and realize you are fully committed if you are successful.

I figured it was worth trying to low ball it and it worked...

Tried biding on a minivan last week with price line for jul 24 to aug 3rd and no luck.. started at $18 to 25 bucks as i was luck last time but they kept coming back saying i would have a better chance at 54 to 58 buks. Tried bidding today and tried $50 to $54 and no luck again. At $54 a day the total with taxes works out to be around $750 usd. Seems like its going to be a tough year to get a minivan. I called a few places and there all sold out???? Found a discount place that would charge a total of $890 tax in and a second driver. I think this works about the same or cheaper than priceline now based on the exhange rate etc.

Aeroplan CDP 221417, PC 129754
250 bonus aeroplan, up to 20% off, $35 off

Still a bit steep at 43.81/day after tax, but this is only a back-up to trying Priceline for the oneway trip closer to the day

Any other suggestions?

Acrossenger, during 2008 I was able to your codes and Hertz Goldcard to get a really good rate. E.g. Vancouver airport economy card for ~ $20/day all inclusive. But I am not able to get the similar discount anymore using the same code in Van in July 2009. Any suggestions?

This code is still the most powerful code in Hertz family. You can try other company like National. Maybe they are cheaper. Here is a link for their 2000 free aeroplan:

Man, this is f'd up. I'm trying to rent a car from Calgary for 4 days, but drop it off in Edmonton. The cheapest I can find is about $100/day for a freakin' economy class, yet if I rent a car just within Calgary it drops to $43/day. Is it more expensive to do a one-way trip or something?

Yes it is more expensive to rent one-way. Each location has a set inventory. When you rent from one location and return to another location, they have to some how get that vehicle back to the first location. This would involve driving someone to Edmonton and driving two cars back in your case. That's two people wages and two times the gas.

To the OP, thanks, I signed up for the Gold club - not really sure what it gets me besides less hassle at the counter, which is good.

I'm trying to book a car in Phoenix (from the airport) from July 16-19, anyone have any good codes for it? The cheapest I'm finding is $180USD.

Have you tried using an online site like travelocity, expedia or orbitz? I can see a rate lower than US$180.

This also applies to everyone else asking for a better rate. Given that RFD is NOT a travel agency, all of you guys who come on here asking for a better rate should do some homework and see what the best rate is without a code by using websites I mentioned above. Those websites already do a lot of work for you by getting you all the quotes at a one-stop shop.

Just because Hertz may have a special code does not mean that it will give you the lowest rate of all car rental companies. Other companies may have their own promotions going on (which may be available only on their own websites) and/or the Hertz codes may be blacked out during certain periods.

In my experience places like Expedia have rarely provided the actual lowest rate available once you factor in company, location, loyalty, and association discounts. The title of this thread would imply that people come here specifically for Hertz codes to use for searching for fares not covered or not found by the portals you mention, to seek that extra bit of discount.

I agree with you that this thread is about special codes for Hertz but that is the only thing I would agree with you in your post.

Although the title of the thread would IMPLY that people come (and should come) here for Hertz code, it is fairly obvious that most of those people come to this thread to say "I cannot seem to get a better rate than $X". These same people clearly have not done their homework if these people could have gone to those portals and found a better rate in less than a minute. For instance, I found a better rate at PHX than BJB00 for July 16-19 just for curiosity - Travelocity provided the better rate in a few clicks and I did not have to put in any discount codes for any "extra bit of discount" you referred to.

Finding a good rate for car rental is no different from finding a good airfare to Europe or Asia - that is what a travel agent is for and IS NOT what RFD is about. Coming onto RFD and asking for services normally rendered by a travel agent (by effectively "bumping" the post) is just wrong.

In addition, Expedia has its own list of suppliers. Travelocity is a lot better.

Go to Priceline or Hotwire for the best deals.

Perhaps I should have been more specific, the rate of $180 was not for an economy car, it was for a mid-size SUV. I tried expedia and travelocity.

I signed up for gold membership. So basically I got %10 off (maybe more with coupons but I couldn't find any). But since I have to pay the underage fee and CDW on top of that its not really worth it. I found a better deal going with Budget. Everything inclusive, underage + CDW was $200 cheaper for a 7 day rental (thats a lot, not even with coupons you can beat that).

Not sure what you mean by "travellers details". If you mean any info about the passengers, no you don't. You do however need to tell them you need an infant seat, which is an extra charge unless you're a CAA member.

Always check your rental contract carefully when you actually sign it. If it does have geographical limitations, you can sometimes negotiate that away when you pick up the car. Assume that a company does have the ability to track where your car goes and WILL charge you mileage fees if you violate the terms.

I've seen rental terms that limit to current province/state, to current and adjoining province/state(s), that exclude the US when rented in Canada and vice versa.

Most rental contracts disallow travel to Mexico. Some also forbid driving on non-paved roads though I've never heard of that being enforced in cases other than rampant off-roading. Terms are also often different depending on the vehicle class. For specialty vehicles such as premium cars or SUVs, or minivans, it is rare to have unlimited mileage -- however if you reserve a normal car and are upgraded at time of rental, the terms of your original reservation *usually* apply despite the change in vehicles (but again, check -- carefullyl!) One-way rentals often have restrictions as well, but not always.

In my experience with Hertz, unlimited truly means unlimited. I avoid other companies precisely because they try to play games (Enterprise is the worse, in my experience.)

What do you mean you try to bok online...? You mean booking now and picking up later? or not booking and picking up?

Yes, the general rule is one only signs the "Rental Agreement" upon pick-up but certain companies may require a credit card to secure a reservation (esp for a minivan).

Different locations give different prices because of supply and demand. On average, a compact is going to cost more in Vancouver than in Regina.

Minivans and SUVs generally have limited mileage. Sometimes you may be able to get unlimited mileage if you are renting from an airport.

These kinds of questions are best answered by the car rental companies' staff.

Ended up going with Avis and got almost 50% off the weekly rate with a corporate Gov't of Canada code.

Code doesn't make any difference in the price.

Code doesn't make any difference in the price.

I ran a matrix for San Diego again usng diferent CPC's and it varies on the vehicle....likley the location and time of the week as well. I did end up using the C&D CPC again but Aeroplan was cheaper on a better vehicle.

I think this is YMMV a bit.

If you use an *odd* code they may refuse it at the desk.

As the OP has stated they will not likely refuse C&D or ask for proof.

TIP: Join the Gold Club so you don't usually have to use the check in (although I still did on my last trip)

Also new PC for class upgrade PC# 135472 Not sure how long it will last.

How is Budget as a rental company?

Aeroplan CDP 221417 + PC 129754 is $280 USD for a 7 day rental in the San Diego area (Aug 15-21), whereas Car & Driver CDP 1757580 + PC 128844 is $310. Any disadvantages to the Aeroplan discount? I believe C+D is unlimited mileage, but according to here (http://offer.hertz.com/offers/index.jsp?targetPage=aeroplandiscount.jsp), the aeroplan CDP offers 1250 miles for a weekly rental. I think this should be sufficient for me but was wondering if others know of better deals out there I should try.

One month rental prices in San Francisco keeps dropping. Currently, for pickup on Sept 05 and return on Oct 05, my all-in rate is US$421 using CDP 706900 and PC#133663 ($50 off monthly rentals for #1 Gold, or PC#112414 for non-club.) This rate is at the downtown Pine Street HLE location -- the airport is and always is much more expensive.

Using CAA as the CDP gives around $480 total, so not bad in case I have problems with 706900 -- but according to FlyerTalk and FatWallet no one ever checks for verification of that CDP anyway since it's pretty widespread (Travel Partners Club, some airport/airline employee group or something.)

I've been finding great deals on weekly rentals using Costco travel codes.
1 Week in Calgary for a Standard size in late sept is $197 all in, the next week in Vancouver was $240 all in.
This was using CDP 336436 and PC 128844 ( $35 off weekly).

You can try National car rental with Contract ID 3715444. It is the best rate out there right now. It includes free extra driver as well. If insurance is important for you, try 3715761 contract ID with national. It includes full LDW and underage fee as well as extra driver fee. Both of them are unlimtied km.

Hi thanks for posting the Contract IDs! Where does it say that underage fee is included? I just went on the transaction page and I do not see any indication of this.

Thanks for all PM. I spend a lot of time playing with various codes. Save yourself some time - just use 1757580 CDP. 99.9% that will be the best rate.

Voted Best Hertz CDP Discount Code: 1757580
- Excellent Rates, best Hertz discount offered anywhere, it beats all other codes includes AAA
- Anyone can use this code, this belongs to Car and Driver Magazine
readers (go pick one up from a magazine stand?)
- Unlimited miles (even for one way trips)
- Discounted one way rentals
- No driving area restriction in North America

I'm planning on renting a vehicle in Miami for 5 days. Does the C&D code waive the under 25 fee? I don't see it anywhere. TIA.

I think the National C&D code does. Not the Hertz one.

oh, you might want to update the OP in that case?

all im getting is SUV's or higher from national.

I'm about to sign up for the Gold card via C&D. Is the annual fee waived every year? Why do they want your cc and dl for? Are there any hidden fees that I should know about.

EDIT: Gold card with underage waived? https://www.hertz.com/rentacar/hertzlink/index.jsp?targetPage=clubLinkSplashView.jsp
