Good find! I don't need one, but if I was looking for a decent entry/mainstream videocard, I would be all over this!

Good job again!

This or the 8500GT from NCIX ??

This is a better deal. Better performer and better price. Nvidia really crippled their new cards to make the high end ones look better.

Here are some benchs of 7600GS Vs. 8500GT. http://www.hkepc.com/bbs/hwdb.php?tid=774620&tp=g84-64-nvidia&rid=774620

The 7600GS beats it in 95% (Estimate) of all the games benched. But I have heard that the Nvidia 8xxx line is optimized for HD playback (Don't know much about it though).

Warm is about right. Attractive price, but 3DFuzion doesn't have lifetime warrantly like other mfcs.

I think the OP should modify the title to mention the $30 MIR. I would much prefer the Asus or XFX version that doesn't have a fan though (other mfcs may have a silent version too...)

What would be a decent pci-e card within under $100.00

I have this very card and it's very quiet, at first I was afraid that since it's got a fan it will be a lot louder than the reference 7600GS design (which is fanless). It turns out it's not very loud at all.

How much power supply does this require?

Not much at all. < 300W would still probably be fine. This link shows 27.4W consumption at peak - pretty awesome compared to the 6600GT.
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/power-noise_6.html

IIRC, performance is about the same as the 6600GT but there will be some features the previous generation doesn't have.

EDIT: Forgot the link

their ERs are just like FS/BB's MIRs, except it's "easier" thru stooples...

ERs have never been considered as "IRs"....

I don't know... I think the PCI-E 7600GT has been $120 for like the past 6 months... and it should absoultely own the 7600GS in all aspects... Up to you whether you think it's worth the extra 40 bucks...

The low heat, low power consumption, and low noise characteristics definitely work in the 7600GS's favour though. I feel pretty safe using mine with just an Antec Smartpower 350W.

honestly, i don't think my GT is too loud at all... with performance, there comes noise in most cases if you want proper cooling- unless you have those new fangled "good" passive heatsinks. My 7600GT AGP (more power?) runs fine on my 400W sparkle psu.

I believe the 7600GS is faster than a 7300GT not to mention most people aren't fond of TD rebates.

I don't doubt a bit when you say a GT could be as quiet as a GS. If you are doing an HTPC on a budget (where a lot of the budget is going to external components such as Wavemaster Case and Dinovo keyboards), then the GS is a suitable alternative for the sake of outputting a clean image to your HDTV. I wouldn't have minded getting a GT if I had the extra money but 1500$ is already too much on a 3rd computer in the house.

Anyway, in my case the GS was a cheap way to round out my computer, so I went for it.

The new 8600 apparently does a far better job at HDTV stuff. For only ~$50 difference, I'd go that route. Snag yourself a copy of Supreme Commander for free in the process! :D Fanless too!

I checked on the 7600GS this morning and the price has now been reduced to 99.97 (Newfoundland postal code and in stock). Add a filler item to qualify for the $10 of $100 that started this post and then claim the easy rebate and the deal is now even warmer ($73 after rebate).

You can't go wrong for $70.
I applied for the rebate online.
It was like pushing a button that says "easy"

Certain 7600GS models are actually passively cooled. So I guess they don't need to install a powerful (ie. noisy) fan for the active models.

I'll be returning this card to Staples today. It doesn't work in my mobo (ASUS-VM CSM). Stay away from this card if you have this mobo. I researched online, and no one has seemed to be able to get this combo to work. I wish I had researched first.

At least you should have no problem returning your purchase given this particular incompatibility. There's no need to feel bad - this is why there's a return policy.

I've had no problem with my XFX 7600GS with my VM CSM. Perhaps the 3dFuzion model has a specific issue. Unfortunate, but if you're looking for a silent video card, the 7600gs is great.

I have an X800XL and this 7600GS. I've played Battlefiel 2 with both cards. The X800XL is paired with an Athlon X2 3800+ with 2GB of DDR ram, and the 7600GS is paired with an Pentium D820 with 2GB of DDR2 ram.

I can tell you that for me both cards produced acceptable results under similar graphics settings. The X800XL is definitely faster but the 7600GS only produces a fraction of the noise and heat than the X800XL - I replaced the stock heatsink with Zalman's after-market VGU cooler but still the X800XL heats quite a bit more than the 7600GS.

Since you are going for a good performer, then the decision is simple and I can easily advise you to get the X800.

Not sure if the 5%off and free shipping code still work with the ATI (got one a while back) but bought this 7600GS ($83 taxes in and after rebate) for a box that I am building for my daughter (slightly cheaper than 800XL and she may need SM 3.0 support, was thinking about the 8500GT but was told it'll be slower than 7600GS DX9.0wise and only improvement is better x264 support)

Anyway things to consider

1) 800XL is faster than 7600GS but without support of SM3.0, ie you can't play SM3.0 only games like RB6 Las Vagas but not sure if 7600GS can handle that game since it is very GPU hungry.

2) Price of this deal is not really very hot, $83 taxes in and after rebate for me since you maybe able to get a second hand 8600GT at around $100 which is much faster than the GS, I myself is still thinking if I should return it.

3) ATI answer to Nvidia 8xxx series is coming out soon

Good luck.
