I just saw this TV ad for Rona. It was pretty quick, but it stated that they have an Early Bird event in addition to the Run to Rona Spring (http://www.rona.ca/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/rona/srvr_070502.jsp?storeId=10001&langId=-1)event going on.

Everything in store is 10% off but only till 11am on May12/13.

IIRC the commercial said everything, which should include lumbar... but I couldn't read the fine print on the bottom of the screen

Actually it says May 12th only in Manitoba which to me would mean May 13th the deal is valid everywhere.

good call but i read it as "valid on may 12th only, in manitoba", but both days everywhere else... it's worded strange

Any one can confirm with Ontario?

The reason that the disclaimer about Manitoba is in there is that stores here aren't allow to open before noon on Sundays. Therefore it is impossible to get a leaflet before 11 am.

The offer should be good on the 13th everywhere stores are allowed to open before 11.

I called my local store (North Van, BC). The guy said not all stores are participating. It's best to call to be sure.

The very last line of the fine print reads "at participating RONAs".

Actually, it means if you're in Manitoba then the deal is only on May 12; everywhere else the deal is on May 12 and 13. I guess this would only apply at "participating" Ronas.

Ontario Stores its This Saturday & Sunday until 11am. I don't know about the other stores but the one I work at you wont need to bring in any pamphlet or anything for the discount..

It is good on lumber as well.

On top of that Rona has a gift card promotion right now. Something like spend $300-1999.00 you get $15 giftcard, spend 2000-3000 get $60 and there are more (I don't know the exact amounts you spend and how much you get, but you get the idea) At the store I work at we are offering BOTH at the same time.

How's the price in rona? fair? how is it compared to say..... HD?

I found that when we were building our basement, Rona was the same price as HD for lumber, drywall, and very common electrical items...etc

But on average, for other things Rona tended to be a bit more expensive....and HD's selection for certain things is better....but they tend to have different product lines for certain things so its hard to compare..

I actually prefer Totem and Home Hardware over them both, but Rona is a 5 minute drive so for little things the extra gas isnt worth the savings.

My latest price comparison e.g. 32' extension ladder $194 at Rona, $183 at HD. You get AIRMILES at Rona. Maybe that's why the price is slightly higher.

If it is the same product / model as another store, they will price match + 5 or 10% better (can't remember exactly).

I went to Burlington Rona yesterday, Burlington Ontario.

They comfirmed this event will be on Sunday morning before 11AM. They open at 8AM.

10% off everything before the tax. Also you can still get gift card as well.

HOT!!!

I think RONA is better than HD.
1. You are paying almost the same price as HD. At least you can do the PM.
2. You don't have to pay for the full package, normally RONA will do those small package for u. HD has to be per package, RONA will do per piece.

Rona from my experience has better customer service than HD. HD was good at one time but then their prices just started creeping up that it doesn't matter anymore. So I go to RONA now for the airmiles and their better customer service.

As mentioned they often carry different lines. Recall a tap fitting was 3 bucks @ Rona, same item/diff company from HD was over 5 bucks.
How's the price in rona? fair? how is it compared to say..... HD?

Lumber seems to be consistently priced. The 2x10" was far better quality @ Rona.

Is it different company. Recall one carry Lite, the other another brand making for no PM.

The last straw for me was when HD brought in self checkout and didn't move the staff to other departments. You can't find anybody in my store.

I went to this RONA sale today.

I asked Customer Service last night if I could combine the 10% with gift card offer. They said no, But oddly at the front they had both offers on one sign. So I asked a guy in plumbing and he called a mgr who said you can do both.

I called this morning and asked to confirm. The guy on the phone said no, so i asked him to ask a mgr. He did and the both offers can be combined.

I went and got the offers combined. A little frustrating a well advertised sale has so much confusion in RONA.

One other issue I had was so many items OOS. The faucet I wanted the POS said several left, but there were none. And the pedestal sink I wanted said 7 left but OOS.

How can you order more when you run out if your POS POS sales :D does not tell you you are OOS!

Rona has the really really inexpensive furnace filters, usually around $1.

They don't filter any of the pollen or dust mite crap out, but I find that if you just put a good quality one in during the winter three months, and use the crappy $1 during the summer, it makes about zero difference anyhow because the windows are usually open.

The staff this morning was quite confused about the 10% off promo as well. The girl at the door and a couple other staff inside said that the coupon is good anytime today or tomorrow. However, at checkout, the cashier said they're only taking them until 11am today.

Even the coupon itself is ambiguous. It says "Congrats, you're in the store before 11am". But it also says only valid until 11am. So people who arrive at 10:59am have 1 minute to checkout?

This event has coincided nicely with the drywall stage of my basement renovation project; I bought $600 worth of stuff I need (including drywall, subfloor, and related items) and saved the 10% plus received a $60 gift card. Plus I got some Air Miles. I saw one guy buying about 1.5 skids -- about 180 pieces, by my estimates -- of DriCore subfloor (at over $7 per piece). I guess that 10% can really add up.

Went there today, got the 10% voucher and priced the drop ceiling panels and supplies,,,,, and the exact style of panel is 20 cents a sq ft more at RONA compared to HD. Can't support RONA at that price,,,,

HD will honour the rona coupon as well,,, so Im off to HD in the morning.:D

I went to Rona this morning. I had bought 4k worth of stuff on thursday and got a 450$ gift card. The manager did not want to honour the 10% and said it was one or the other (gift card). I pointed out that no where on the little flyer it was mentionned that offers could not be combined. Although he pointed out the : Certain conditions apply. I told him about the ad on TV that talked about the 10% and gift card in the same commercial. Anyway, after 5 min, he said it would do it.

It is too bad that most stores do not even know about their own company promotions....

I disagree. A lot of the Rona stores are still the original Lansings (in GTA anyways). They were/are family owned and operated. My local Rona (Dundas St. at Royal York) is still called Lansing by most in the area and the staff there are fantastic.

As for Home Depot, the only way to get good service is to go at non-peak times. They are way understaffed and the majority are drones. OTOH, the HDs outside of GTA are way better for service and knowledgeable staff.

In terms of prices, Rona is better on power tools but 10-15%. But on lumber and hardware, not so good.

It is definitely the opposite here in Northwest Calgary. Most of the Home Depot workers are people training for the Olympics who don't give a damn what they do as long as they get time off to train. Every time I go there to ask for something, they say they don't carry it, then I find it when I'm wandering around the store.

I only go there as a last resort despite the fact it is the closest home building store to my house.

In order to go to Rona, I must drive across the city, which I do just to avoid Home Depot.

Yup I agree. Most HD employees are 11 bricks short of a dozen. I can't tell you how many times I've been lied to, given bad advice, given attitude, been walked away from because the HD employee was incompetent. I'll avoid HD at any cost, IMO, they employ numbskulls. Rona is a bit better, I feel they *try* a bit harder. At the Ronas I visit, most of the staff are older and still have understanding of customer service. Sometimes the prices are a bit higher, but I'll pay it to avoid supports the aholes at HD. Also, the quality of lumber at Rona is far superior than HD and is competitively priced.

Very rarely do I find RONA better priced. My entire basement, reno, bathroom reno, and addition to the home,,, was supplied via HD, and ebay, and only a couple items at RONA.

I took my 10% coupon to HD this morning and got the 10% off my purchase with them and saved more then using it at RONA hands down

This sale was the best I ever had. Was out in the market for a garage package, originally priced at around $4500 incl tax, got 10% off cost me $4088 plus a $450 gift card which I used to buy garage door opener. The whole garage cost me approx 4,000 tax incl if I include the garage opener and there is still balance left on my gift card.
