Hi Guys,

I have 2 Pentium 4 desktops running xp and a mac notebook.

The 2 desktops will be hardwired and i will be running the notebook wirelessly.

What 802.11 G compatible router would you recomend ???

Sorry im clueless when it comes to networking !

Please keep in mind im not interested in 3rd party firmware updates and all the extra's ... i just want something that is easy to install, reliable and fast.

Thank you !

I think the most important question is. Do you use peer to peer software (ie. BT). . If you don't, it's a fairly straight forward answer to your question. If you do, you've just opened up a can of worms. :cheesygri

I think most everyone here would recommend the Linksys WRT54GL, as when loaded with 3rd party firmware (I know the OP didn't want to tinker with this, but it is really easy to do) the WRT54GL is rock-solid.

So is this 3rd party software gonna work fine for the mac plaform...???

This is really the only computer im worried about as the 2 xp desktops will be hardwired.

It will work fine with the MAC. The firmware only gives your router more features. Wireless is still wireless.

Glennaxl posted a useful link already, but I wanted to add that NCIX is probably the place to get it from; their service is very well regarded, and as you can see the prices are good.

There's also a couple of guides to installing 3rd party firmware here (http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-12222) and here (http://www.andybswebsite.com/ddwrt1.php) so you can see how little is involved.
