Would it be really stupid if I set this up in my backyard fence? I am able to get good receiption with my satellite dishes from there but I know Antenna's are different.

My roof is really really high so dont want to mount it up there. And this might be ugly hanging off the side wall of my house.

Suggestions would be great.

Edit: Attic wont be too bad either.

you can't compare antennas with satellites as where they get their signal is completely different. satellites from the sky, antennas from direct line of sight to the transmitters.

you can try to mount it in your backyard, but if there are buildings, trees, etc in your line of sight you may not be able to pick up the signal. higher is always better. your attic might be an option, but you will definitely see signal degradation as it will now be indoors.

Thanks for the advice. Thats what I thought.

Any suggestions for antenna's and where to get them. I'm thinking a smaller on and I'll mount it as high as I can on the side of the house that can face south. or on the mid-roof (about 14 feet high)

Compact antenna preferred.

not sure where you are located, but you should definitely go on this board and give it a good read...tons of info there:

if you are in the vancouver area, there is a guy on that forum (i think his username is 4DTV) that can come and survey your area and suggest what antenna will work for you. he can also help you with installation and such. happy reading!
