Oppo DV-970HD subtitle problem

I'm trying to play divx/xvid with seperate subtitles (not embedded) and i can't get it to work. I have the filename the same and have tried .idx .srt and .sub. Can anyone help me?

Not sure if it'll fix it, but have you tried updating the firmware?

yes i have the 05.00.01.07 Batch: 3A-0916, 3A-0919 firmware, so that shouldn't be it. Do you know if the subtitle file has to be a particular format?
