I bought a power inverter a while back but I didn't have a lap top at the time.
The power inverter says :
Rated output power : 125 W
Output peak power: 300 W
Rated output voltage : AC110V
output frequency : 60hz
Input voltage : DC12V
Input current: 15A
Output current: 1.14A
Fuse spefications: 40A
Output waveform: modified sine wave.
The laptop adaptor says
Input 100-240 V
50-60Hz 1.5A
Question is... shoudl I be considered that the input is 1.5A for the laptop adaptor and the invertor only puts out 1.14A? I don't want to use it if it will likely bugger up my laptop

It will probably work, but as you noticed you might be pretty close to the limit. As the adapter is supposed to pull down up to 1.5A, that will be at 100V, so at the inverter's 110V it will max out at 1.36A, 0.2A overlimit. Since the adapter is likely only going to hit its max while you've got the laptop pegged and you're charging an empty battery, you're unlikely to reach the full 1.36A draw under regular useage.
If it doesn't get the power it needs from the inverter, the inverter will go into an overload condition and likely trip a thermal circuit breaker. Not good for the inverter's lifespan, but it won't harm the laptop.
Would it work? Almost certainly. Would I suggest going for a bigger inverter? Definately.

OK.. thanks... I got this thing from Zeller's for $10.... I will test it and see if it trips.. I won't be using it often... just worried abotu damaging the laptop...

I swear I damaged a laptop with a power inverter. I used the inverter with the laptop a bunch, then one time I plugged it in and the laptop charging circuit fried. I cant be 100% sure of course that it wasnt just a random occurrence. I did some reading and found there can be some concern with the sawtooth wave that is produced by the inverter (not a pure sine wave) and its effect on the switching power supply of the laptop.
As a consequence I dont dare use my inverters with my laptop. But maybe I am just paranoid now.?? Anyone else have long term success stories with inverters??
