Type M is the 'regular' speed kind. Type H is the faster one.

I think there were problems with the type H cards before and at one point I believe they stopped production on them.
Does anyone know at Costco is there a way to tell if you are getting a Fuji or Olympus card? It looks like you buy the package and get what you get. The reason I ask is, I have an Olympus camera and need the Olympus brand card to utilize some of the features. (Panorama mode and some art things)
Thanks.

Type M actually refer to Multi-Bank type. The max size of the original xD is 256MB (not sure, may be 512MB). To overcome the size limit, Type M group several banks of the original xD in to a bigger size card. The read and write method is different and is not compatible to the original xD. Since only one bank can be access at the same time, the read and write speed is slower than the original xD. There is a new Type "H" xD that is faster than Type "M" xD.
Many old card reader cannot read Type M xD correctly. I have 4 different USB multi-card reader and only 1 can read the Type M xD.
You should refer to your camera manual to check the max size xD can be used.
Edit: refer to the chart provide by willy, the Olympus Stylus 300 work with type M and H xD

I had H cards and they worked great for me in my SP350, the extra speed was nice...
Just ask to look at the package before you buy it, I am sure they could do that for you. Worst case scenario, you buy and just return it if necessary.
Regardless of how it's branded they are probably manufactured by Toshiba anyway. Are you wanting an Olympus branded card for the Panoramic so-called "feature"?

I bought mine in London ($48.99) and it's an Olympus
you hand in a card at the checkout and someone goes to get it - I don't know why you couldn't ask them to get the kind you want

If you can get by with 1 GB, the higher speed card type H cards are $30 at Dell. They are listed as SanDisk, but I can tell you the one I received was an Olympus card (in a SanDisk package).

ITA - I bought 1GB for ~$45 about 6 months ago and it was a good deal at that time.
