The high interest savings account rate is 3.8% ... PC is 4% but you need a minimum of $1,000 to get that rate...
Not sure if CT has a minimum...?

Care to explain why? I have had a credit card(s) with them for over 15 years and never had any trust problems.

PC Financial is attached to CIBC. Which bank does Canadian Tire use and where can you withdraw funds?

I did not know Canadian Tire has become a bank. Has the rules change so that any company can open a bank? So can we expect Future Shop or Best Buy to open a bank?

Canadian Tire used to be affiliated with ING Direct to some degree, but that seemed to have come/gone quite quickly. I don't know if they've paired up again, but just saying that they had some connection in the past.

I think RFD should seriously start offering Savings account and GIC.

Applied. Application was pretty short. theres no minimum deposit required and no monthly fees.
Heres the confirmation message i got
Thanks for applying.
What happens next?
Once we receive your application, we'll mail an instruction package to you - you should receive it within 10 days. The instruction package will outline next steps and ask that you mail a cheque to us.
The cheque must be made payable to yourself, in Canadian funds, from a bank account in your name held at another Canadian financial institution. The cashing of this cheque is required to set up a link to your existing account - your High Interest Savings AccountTM will not be operational until this cheque has been cashed - it's a legal thing, just to make sure everything works properly from the beginning. For joint accounts, you'll need to send a joint cheque with both your signatures, or, you can complete and mail in two separate cheques, one from each of you.
Once we receive the cheque from you, we will begin the process of connecting your existing account to your Canadian Tire High Interest Savings Account. Including the time it takes for your cheque to reach us, this should take about 10 days.
Once we receive your cheque we will mail you a welcome package that outlines how you can access your account, and we'll ask you to call our Canadian Tire Customer Support at 1-866-681-CTFS(2837) for quick verification, so that we can set up your password for online and telephone access to your account.
Once the cheque in your account has been cashed, get ready... because the money you're now saving with us is going to be nice to you for a change.

No CT actually bought out a bank/financial service company
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Tire_Financial_Services
Unlike Presidents Choice which licenses service from CIBC.. CT is actually a bank.

IF CT is actually a bank, can we assume our deposits are guaranteed by the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation up to $100,000?

^^ sure you can assume anything.. and while you're assuming, feel free to buy a new screwdriver as you wait in line at the bank machine.
Seems pretty limited as far as withdrawals etc are concerned as you would have to do them during store hours :(

Actually PC use to pay 50 pts for each transaction when they started. A friend of mine use to pay $50 bill in 50 transactions of $1. :cheesygri
THey stoped that quickly, and limited to 500 pts monthly. Eventually stopped altogether.

it means when you send them in a cheque, they will link that account to your CT account. this way you can transfer money online between the two accounts.

I remember signing up for this $20 Cash + $10 Tires Money and even called to confirm those were the correct facts....however, after signing up for 2 different people (bro and i) we never received the expected "Welcome Package" (and this was to go to two different addresses). Interestingly i finally received a letter indicating the welcome package was with it which it was not, it did not include a mailback envelope (which it claims should have been included) and the date i had to get my check and signed documents back by, as part of that welcome package (mentioned on the letter) was actually 5-days prior but when you read the letterhead they had actually mailed this letter out on the same day it claims i was to have my completed package back to them....to me i got the impression they were looking for ways to drop this promotional offer because they got too many applicants....I called to let them know they made a mistake about 2 weeks back and they appologised and said they would take care of it and as such, so far i have not received any word for either applicant.
I suspect none of you guys will hear anything back regarding this promotion either....let me know how it goes..
UPDATE: If you check their site you will also notice they "dropped" the $20 cash and now it is just the $10 Tires money. This is what i was expecting...It should be noted that the promotional offer for the $20 Cash was to end on May 31st so ubruptly CT just ended it without notice and for me (and bro) we were left in the cold despite applying back in mid-April

Canadian Tire Bank is not listed on the CDIC list of members. There is something called CTC Bank of Canada, but Wikipedia says that is Chinatrust Commercial Bank subsidiary.

Signed up on May 8 online for both. Got the two welcome packages in the mail yesterday (in one week). All it asked for is a pre-printed cheque showing your name, make the cheque payable to your self and mail back to CT in the postage prepaid envelops. That was it.
In the fine-print, it says you can close this account any time. I looked the itemized service fees, no indication of any charge of early closing of the account (other banks usually charge 20-30 for closing account within 3 months). Be patient.

I am scared that one day I go to withdraw cash and the ATM starts giving me CT money instead of real money... Not List under the CDIC then I would not put more than 500 bucks in it... but like said 30 bucks is 30 bucks ....
Edit - I guess Canadian Tire does not believe that Quebec as part of Canada ...
