Very tempted to get this phone now as my current cell is semi-broken and I lost my mp3 player.
Is it good enough to replace a normal mp3 player?

It's a good mp3 player, but playing music drains the battery a lot.

Hmmm...that sucks.
What kind of battery life are we looking at while playing MP3s?

it's not really good as a mp3 player, unless you feel like listening to radio because that's how it sounds in the earphones.

Dont worry its good. Plus if your using it as a mp3 player alone you can always use the flight mode to save battery life. Sound is good and it can compare to other mp3 players.

The headphones don't give a lot of bass but if you're just using it to listen to on the bus ride to work/school than it'll be good enough. You can always turn off your phone and turn it on as an mp3 player only to help save some batteries.

I find the bass plentiful, you just need to turn it on in the EQ. Actually, I had to turn off the MegaBass setting, because there was too much bass. Also, make sure you swap on an earbud size that fits snuggly.

no problems here with sound or battery life?
aside from only up to 4GB space its good for MP3 listening.
I no longer have that model phone but I did like it. I now have the K790A.
I don't think I would go with a cell phone without an mp3 player of some kind.
I like listening to music and I don't like missing calls, with a separate mp3 player I found I missed calls all the time!

I've had my w810 for a little over a year now (unlocked from some place in Asia) and I think it's a failry good mp3 player, nice phone in general. I don't use the stock ear buds, I actually use Sony MDR-EX71 as I find them more combfortable. I also don't have issues with the battery draining while listening to mp3s or even playing games. I think the camera drains the better faster but I've never had the battery die on me.

The mp3 function does not drain the battery that much at all. The w810 has one of the best batteries out there on any cellphone period. I do not like the stock earbuds and use my own sennheiser ones. Its a good all in one device assuming you have a big mem stick.

If you are in music mode (no phone) then you won't drain battery as much, and the life is great. The bass and the earbuds (in-ear) are awesome, the quality is so good that it beats many mp3 players.

Sorry to say, this is a walkman phone and as such, is pretty much the best mp3 player in a cellphone you can get. The only thing I can see missing is AD2P for bluetooth stereo. You don't know what you're missing with bluetooth stereo until you've tried it. People do give you strange looks when they see your headphones aren't connected to anything :cheesygri

+1...the only time that the mp3 player drains the battery quicker than normal is when you play it out the external speakers which makes logical sense. Using the earbuds takes very little out of the battery.

Thanks for the recommendations. I bit the bullet and got the white w810i for $99 (no rebate) and no activation fee, but with a 3 year contract.
Not really happy about extending my contract, but my current phone is broken and I wasn't up to the HUP level for another 4-6 months. At least rogers is pretty good with changing plans even if you are in a contract.

The MP3 player has poor functionality, but it's fine for what I need it to do.
I listen to it on the subway, or on long walks when I don't want to drive or take a streetcar. It doesn't have a sleep feature, it'll just keep playing. You have a play/pause button on one side, and a volume button that doubles as skip ahead/reverse when you hold it.
The sound quality isn't the greatest. There is a hiss, and the stock earbuds are crappy, but they do their job if you're just looking for something to distract you on a noisy subway/bus/streetcar ride.
Personally I have no problems with the battery life on the MP3 player. I typically charge my phone every night, but on weekend trips to my parent's place or whatever, I can listen to it for a few hours per day, still make hour long phone calls and get back to my place with enough juice.

I'm not sure if they changed the media player software for the w810i over the k750i, but on my k750i the random function sucks....it didn't random all the songs, and the random logic random them in the same sequence every time.

The SE Wxxx series has better MP3 support since the W stands for Walkman.

the software is really lacking on the mp3 side. i have alot of mixtapes i put on there and instead of putting them all in one album it puts them all in seperate folders. pretty lame although you can get around it by renaming the whole album.

I use toe W810 for a while and I think it is great. The mega bass EQ is better the my IPOQ setting and for a simple mp3 player the function is really decent. I don't really like the earphone though. Overall the w810 is really good for its price as the function on it is pretty strong(godo mp3 players, good camera, good as a phone, good battery life).

I was under the impression it already came with an adapter for a 1/8" headphone jack...it doesn't? My buddies w300 came with one.

There were a lot of complaints about hissing noise on the W810i for mp3 playback, but apparently it's been fixed in a later firmware.

Wow, great site. And if you signup for a google checkout account, you get $10 off orders $10 or more. I got that adapter, a car charger for the w810, a clear hard case for it, and a USB Car Charger Adapter for $8.87 USD shipped!

Excellent advice! The firmware revisions on this phone make big differences, so check often to see if you have the latest one.

Note that these are not official drivers. You are unbranding your phone, voiding the warranty, and then putting third party drivers on your phone!
That being said...I've already unbranded my phone, changed the firmware region, disabled the camera sounds, and changed the audio and camera drivers. :cheesygri

I don't know about the K800i, but can't you just unplug the earphones from the w810i cord and plug in different headphones? The end of the cord is a standard plug.

You can use your own headphones that plug into the microphone adapter on the stock headset that comes with the W810. The only problem with that is the microphone cord is pretty long, so the headphones are the short ones (^ see picture). If you use your own headphones, you might want to invest into that small adapter, less cables to deal with (but then you lose the microphone).
I've had my W810 since last September, the phone is amazing and I haven't seen anything on the market so far that rivals it in features/quality for the same price.
For the guys who have hiss during mp3s, just upgrade your firmware through SEUS...

Cons
small keys
headphone adapter required
Pros
too many to list
The only part of the phone I do not like is the keys are way too small and the jack adapter that you have to use. I don’t understand the complaints from some posters on the MP3 player. It is very good and there is an equalizer so you can customize the sound. As the poster said above you might want to invest in a smaller adapter because the one they give you is way too long and the cords become a little cumbersome when you attach the headphones.

Or buy a piar of earbuds like the Sony MDR-EX71 that have a really short card (but come with an extension cord to make it longer. That's what I sue so I can still use the mic that came with the phone.
