Trying to over clock my opteron 170, i managed it to get it up to 2.65ghz stable. But inorder to do that i have to set my HTT multiplier to 3X translating my HT frequency to be 3 x 265 =795mhz compared to the 1000mhz i would get if i used a 250fsb and a 4x HTT multiplier. the difference is 150mhz in cpu frequence but sacrificing 200mhz of HTT frequency. What do you guys think i should do?

keep the 150mhz CPU speed.

what does HTT do anyways O_o

In your case, it's the link between CPU and chipset.

HT speed has virtually zero impact on overall performance unless it's crippled down to 1x or something. Your HTT is what matters and higher is always better.

thank you so much :) that really help me settle my mind. i pushed the cpu frequency up a bit now at 2.7ghz and HTT at 820. i think i will just leave it at that.

Dropping my HT multiplier from 5 to 3 did absolutely nothing. Ran a slew of benchmarks and not a lick of difference.

now look at their upcoming processors and their respective outrageous HT speeds

HT is more geared towards the server applications with multiple processors sharing the HT bus. On a single processor desktop the ridiculously high HT speed does absolutely nothing.

Alright :) thanks alot for the advice. Greatly appreciate it
