hello,

could you please provide your help on the following:

this is my first time car buying process.

i was looking for a 2007 honda civic ex, and negotiated with a dealer and got a great price for it.

only thing was the dealer was out of stock for the new vehicle.

i signed the bill of sale, with every detail except for the VIN.

Would this be a big problem?

AM I SCREWED?

I signed this on saturday evening, and the dealer told me that he would get the VIN for me on monday ie. today.

Now I have a few queries.

1. When he gives me the VIN, I havent seen the car. so how do i know that its new and perfect without any problems.

2. can i tell him, that once i see the car in person, then only he can register the vehicle in my name and we can go ahead with completing the deal.

3. if i contact my insurance company, with the VIN that the dealer gave me, and they completed the process; and when i go and check the vehicle, and if there is a problem with it, then can i ask the dealer to bring another car and can i ask the insurance company to change the VIN accordingly.

4. the dealer told me that he would get my car from another dealer. Can I say no to that, and tell him that he has to bring it from Honda Canada.

5. Last but not the least; if I do not find the vehicle satisfactory, and if the vehicle has not yet been registered in my name and i havent contacted the insurance company with the VIN; can I back off from the contract, and get my deposit back? OR ask the dealer for another brand new EX?

Please reply to this, as I need your guidance.

Thanks.

My opinion, you are finding things and creating hypothetical situations to worry about. STOP WORRYING.

Since you are so worried about buying a new car, perhaps there is some underlying reason for worrying about these non-existing issues?

Why would the vehicle not be satisfactory? All they're doing is getting the car from a dealer down the street or in the next town...

yea..
they will probably bring in a car from another dealer, it might have a tiny more mileage, it's still brand new. Unless it is a different trim or colour, you have nothing to worry about

hello,

sorry, but as its my first car buying experience, i m a little nervous.

all i want to know, 1. is it normal not to have VIN on my bill of sale,
2. is there any problem if the car is brought from another dealer.

thanks.

It is not uncommon for dealer to bring a car from another dealer to sell because your dealer may not have the exact trim/colour/option/engine size/etc. The car being brought in will be new, at least technically.

The only potential problem I can see is if the car being brought in may have excessive mileage. I would put a clause in the contract (like max 100km on the odo) to protect this.

Cars from the other dealer would be from Honda Canada as well you should not have to worry.

Whe you take delivery you have a chance to inspect if it is perfect.

Sit back and relax.

They better be towing that car from the other dealership

IMO flatbed > drive > tow. But that's just me.

Mileage clause and nothing else.

Man, this should be happy time for you, why you fretting and all? Enjoy your new ride and you'll realise a week from now what you're worrying about is silly.

Every new car I have purchased (4 in my life) has been without a VIN on the bill of sale ... it's not a big deal.

I always let them know 3 things when signing the contract (and I always get it in writing):

1. It is a new car and I expect less than 30km on it.
2. If it is being brought in from another dealer, flatbed is the only acceptable method of transfer
3. No dealer stickers/badges/license frames.

Haven't had a problem yet
