I was wondering if those of you who are more knowledgable in this arena could offer some input:

I am leaning heavily towards leasing a new 2007 Honda Civic EX coupe AT

~24K MSRP -> 28.9K with tax/freight/PDI

On a 36 month term at 3.9% and a residual of 12.5K, I'm looking at $475/mo with 0 down.

What I have been thinking is that since I am not planning on purchasing the car at the end of the 3 year term, are there more expensive new vehicles out there that are in the same price range to lease? More specifically, are there better cars from other manufacturers with a lower interest rate and higher residual that will allow me to pay approximately the same monthly rate?

Have you considered Leasebusters?

YES!!

You can get a brand new Mercedes-Benz B200 (non-turbo) which is $31400 with no options for $397.30 before taxes.

From Website:
Total Cost $31,400.00
Downpayment/Trade-In Amount $0.00
Length of Contract 36 Months
Annual Kilometres 18,000 km/year
Monthly Payment* $397.30

After taxes it's gonna run you $456.90 -- not bad for a Benz.

I'd take this over a Civic anyday...

Id take the benz as well.

Will insurance be much higher with this car?

My personal take is that Hondas make for great purchases but often lousy leases. Their residuals are often lower than they should be, considering the prices for used Hondas. Conversely, some makes have residuals that are unrealistically high. Looks like MB are one of them, but I have no idea what a used B200 will be worth in three years.

I know Ford got fleeced when my parents returned their Expedition. Buyout was $28K, but used values were closer to $22K.

As long as you aren't going to buy it out and resigned to just throwing the car back at the end of the lease, you'll have all sorts of options in the just under $500/month area.

Also, consider North American cars for a lease. You can generally get a killer deal, it'll be on warranty all the time, and who cares about the depreciation.

Personally, if I were to buy, I'd go Japanese due to high resale. For a lease? Not so much.

keep in mind that Mercedes charge $100+ for service A

and $300-$500 for Service B

This thread is quite old but is relevant to me...

I think the best lease deal right now is the Mercedes Benz B200 Turbo, 4.5% lease rate and you only lease 40% of the total value of the car. Other manufacturers wanted at least 6 % lease rate and 50 + % of the value of the car. So someone like me who is just going to lease and return at the end of the term, it worked out great for me...it is like if you are paying $ 550 a month anyways, would you rather drive a Mercedes or a Jeep or a Hyunda Santa Fe ..?
