I was reading today's Toronto Star and came across this article:
http://www.thestar.com/article/205011

It says if the previous house is used as a meth lab, it needs literally to be stripped to its foundation for it to be thoroughly cleaned. Now, what exactly makes a meth lab so poten and harmful? Is it because of the evaporation of the chemicals during the cooking?

Which one does more damage to housing, meth lab or weed growing?

not sure what goes into a meth lab .... but .. for weed .. all the water required .. causes fungi and mould in the construction.

the building pretty much starts to deteriorate from then on ... probably the same with a meth lab ..

Aren't the chemicals in a meth lab highly explosive? Rather than lethal fungus and mold, you can't light a match without fear of the place blowing up, or just releasing a bunch of chemical vapours that kill you in your sleep.

Post-Drug houses are good for one thing - a BIG bonfire.

Take your pick toxic mold vs imminent explosion.

Yes the chemicals are explosive and toxic. The police took down a meth-lab on the 21st floor of my building a couple years ago. They wore hasmat suits, put up a tent in the back parking area as their post and wouldn't even let people in the back way simply because the exposure the cops might have contracted even while in hasmat suits might have been harmful to other passing by. Also blocked off not only the 21st floor, but the 3 floors below it (there were no floors above it).

Pot grow-ops pose no more danger than growing a bunch of other plants in your home. The mould danger isn't any different. And since pot-growers are looking to make a profit by selling the product of their plants their likely to be more aware of mould starting and deal with it sooner than those simply growing a whack of other innocuous plants.

Keep in mind, most grow ops harvest a few crops and last about a year before they move on to avoid suspicion and robbery.

I wouldn't worry too much about mold.

About meth labs, I forgot the statistic but for whatever amount of meth is produced. A whole whack of hazardous toxic waste is created. Often stored in the backyard or left in the house.

Thankfully meth labs arn't a HUGE problem in Toronto.

I was helping a friend apartment hunt and we were at a building around Sheppard and Bathurst. She couldnt get into 2 units but said she'd check with her husband if she could let us in the 3rd. We got to the door had a huge eviction notice on it.

We went inside to see a whole bunch of dime bags and the weirdest smell Ive ever smelt. Wasn't like fresh weed or smoked weed. A chemical smell. Not sure if it was a packed up meth lab or they were just cooking crack. Regardless he didnt end up renting the place.
